Posted By: GenealogyBuff.com WILLIAMS -- Funeral services for infant Terrany Cherron Williams were held Friday, January 29, 1999, at Power of Love Church in Kingstree, conducted by Rev. Frankie D. White. Burial followed at Kingstree Cemetery in Kingstree directed by McClary Funeral Home. Infant Williams died Tuesday, January 26, 1999, at Carolinas Hospital System-Kingstree. She was the daughter of Elder Terry and Cherron Williams. Survivors, in addition to her parents of the home, are: one sister, Shaquana Williams of the home; one brother, Trovonta Terrell Willams of the home; her paternal grandparents, Bobby James and Laurena Williams of Kingstree; and her paternal grandmother, Mrs. Virginia Pressley of Kingstree.
WILSON -- Funeral services for Mrs. Sallie Ann Brunson Wilson were held Saturday, February 13, 1999, at St. James A.M.E. Church in Lane, conducted by Rev. Moses Brown and Rev. Jerome Wilson. Burial followed in the church's cemetery directed by Dimery and Rogers Funeral Home. Mrs. Wilson, 80, died Sunday, February 7, 1999, at her residence in Lane. She was born June 28, 1918, in Lane, a daughter of the late John Brunson and Betty Chandler Brunson. She was a member of St. James A.M.E. Church, where she served as a former choir member, a missionary stewardess and church treasurer. Survivors are: her husband, Esau Wilson, Sr. of the home; two sons, Esau Wilson, Jr. of Lane; and George Wilson of Greeleyville; and eight daughters, Dorothy Camp, Betty Louise Anderson, Mrs. Azalee Myers, Mrs. Mildred Weston, Mrs. Betty Jean Thompson and Mary Ann Wilson, all of Philadelphia; and Mrs. Annie Mae McDowell of Jacksonville, Fla.; and Mary M. Starks of Greeleyville.
HUCKS -- C. Burgan Hucks, 90, widower of Josie Woodberry Hucks, died Feb. 11, 1999, at his residence. Funeral services were held Feb. 13, at Morris Funeral Home Chapel. Burial followed in the Old Johnsonville Cemetery directed by Morris Funeral Home. Mr. Hucks was born in Brittons Neck, a son of the late Franklin Jink Hucks and Claudia Wise Pope Hucks. He was a retired farmer and a member of Huggins Chapel Southern Methodist Church. Survivors are: five sons, Clarence B. Hucks of Ladson; W.L. Hucks of Conway; Lacy D. Hucks of Hickory, N.C.; Ernest J. Hucks and LeRoy Hucks, both of Hemingway; six daughters, Katherine Abrams of Myrtle Beach; Sarah O. Webb of Sunny Hills, Fl.; Joanne H. Scott of Kingstree; Gladys O. Pope, Bertha Abrams and Christine Cameron, all of Hemingway; three brothers, Sam Hucks, Hubart Hucks and Howard Hucks, all of Johnsonville; and one sister, Duffie Bourne of Brittons Neck.
BRADLEY -- Funeral services for Woodrow "Woody" Bradley were held Feb. 16, 1999, at Oak Grove Missionary Baptist Church in Salters, conducted by Rev. C. W. Green. Burial followed in Salters Cemetery directed by Redmond-Richardson Funeral Home. Mr. Bradley, 46, died Feb. 12, at McLeod Regional Medical Center in Florence. He was born August 20, 1952, in Williamsburg, a son of the late Henry Lee and Persennia Gadson Bradley. He graduated from Tomlinson High School and Friendship Junior College in Rock Hill. He was a member of Oak Grove Baptist Church. He was retired from M&M Construction in Washington, D.C. and was a former employee of Redmond-Richardson Funeral Home of Kingstree. Survivors are: his wife, Mrs. Carolyn C. Bradley of the home; three sons, Shannon Bradley of the home; William Vaughan and Eric Vaughan, both of Largo, MD; one daughter, Mrs. Tracey Jones of Largo, MD; one brother, Jerome Montgomery of Washington; four sisters, Mrs. Ernestine Scott of Kingstree; Lorene Bradley, Shanika Bradley and Delisha Bradley, all of Salters; paternal grandmother, Mrs. Annie B. Bradley of Salters; and his mother-in-law, Mrs. Felicia Jefferies of Washington, D.C.
JOHNSON -- The funeral mass for Dr. Richard E. Johnson was recited Tuesday, March 2, 1999, at St. Vincent de Paul Catholic Church. The Rite of Committal was held in St. Rose of Lima Cemetery in Schulenburg, Texas directed by The Settegast-Kopf Co. Dr. Johnson, 50, died Friday, February 26, 1999. He was born August 7, 1948, in South Carolina to Mary Elizabeth Hughes of Florence and the late Otis Harry Johnson. He received his B.A. degree in English from the University of the South in Sewanee, Tennessee and earned his M.A. and Ph.D. degrees from the University of Virginia in Charlottesville. This lifetime teacher had taught English at the University of Cincinnati, Xavier University and Cincinnati Country Day School in Ohio. For the past 13 years, he taught English and Latin at St. John's School in Houston. He was a member of Phi Beta Kappa. He was also a recipient of the Woodrow Wilson Fellowship and the Danforth Teaching Fellowship. At St. Johnıs, he was awarded the Trammell English Chair in 1991-93. In 1991, he was honored with a fellowship for Independent Studies in the Humanities (ISH) for summer study and in 1993 he participated in a summer seminar sponsored by the National Endowment for the Humanities. Among his many interests, he enjoyed participating in symphony choruses and teaching at his Parish Church, Our Lady of Washington Catholic Church. He was a member of Opus Dei prelature. He was also a leader of the Upbringing Parent Discussion Group dedicated to forming character in children. Survivors are: his wife, Laurel; and six children, Matthew, Catherine, Thomas, Richard, Anne and Vincent; one brother, David H. Johnson of Kingstree.
POINSETTE -- Funeral services for Caesar Poinsette were held Wednesday, March 17, 1999, at St. Michael United Methodist Church in Kingstree, conducted by Rev. Dr. Charles Conner, Jr. Burial followed in the churchyard cemetery directed by Redmond-Richardson Funeral Home. Mr. Poinsette, 64, died Friday, March 12, 1999, at the Ralph Johnson Veteran Affairs Medical Center in Charleston. He was born May 2, 1934, in Williamsburg County, the son of the late Joseph and Anna Shaw Poinsette. He was a member of St. Michael United Methodist Church where he was a member of the St. Michael United Methodist Men, choir and he was church sexton. Survivors are: his wife, Mrs. Iva F. Poinsette of the home; one daughter, Tonya M. Poinsette of the home; two sons, Julius Poinsette and Tedrick Poinsette, both of the home; nine sisters, Peggie Poinsette and Helen Poinsette, both of Wilmington, N.C.; Reva Bradley of Yonkers, N.Y.; Mrs. Yvonne Ervin of Virginia; Mrs. Nancy Brown, Mrs. Lelia Peterson, Mrs. Betty McKnight, Mae Dell Floyd and Mrs. Alice Bryant, all of Kingstree; and three brothers, Rev. Robert Poinsette of Kingstree; Gilbert Poinsette of Clearwater, FL; and William Poinsette of Yonker, N.Y.
PARKER -- Funeral services for Alexis Parker were held Saturday, March 20, 1999, at Dimery and Rogers Funeral Home Chapel in Kingstree, conducted by Rev. Amos Matthews. Burial followed in Mt. Zion Baptist Church Cemetery in Greeleyville directed by Dimery and Rogers Funeral Home. Alexis, 2, died Thursday, March 18, 1999, at McLeod Regional Medical Center in Florence. She was born July 19, 1996, in Florence, a daughter of Richard Murray and Berlinda Parker. Survivors, in addition to her parents, are: her grandparents, Robert Lee Parker and Dorothy Parker, both of Greeleyville and Dorothy Murray of St. Stephens; and a special dad, Herbert Hammond of Salters.
McKNIGHT -- Funeral services for Mrs. Laura Adamson McKnight were held Monday, March 22, 1999, at Bethesda United Methodist Church in Lake City, conducted by Rev. Hayes Gainey. Burial followed in Faith United Methodist Church Cemetery in Kingstree directed by Dimery and Rogers Funeral Home. Mrs. McKnight, 68, died Thursday, March 18, 1999, at her home in Kingstree. She was born February 13, 1929, in Williamsburg County, a daughter of the late William Adamson and Lizzie Gregg Anderson. She received her undergraduate degree from the University of South Carolina and her masters of arts degree in early childhood education from South Carolina State College in Orangeburg. She retired from Williamsburg County Public School System, where she taught at Anderson Primary and D.P. Cooper Elementary School. She was a member of Bethesda United Methodist Church and served in the following capacities: United Methodist Women, the Church Choir, Sunday school teacher, lay speaker, and children's coordinator. She was affiliated with and served on the State Foster Children Review Board, Good Hope Order of Eastern Star #269, Tutor for After School Care Programs, Brownie Scout Advisor and Williamsburg Retired Educators Association, a member of Clemson Extension FCL Club, NAACP and Delta Sigma Theta Sorority and The Unified Retired Educators Association. Survivors are; her husband, Gillie McKnight of Kingstree; two sons, Adoniran Gilford McKnight and Wyman Glyn McKnight, both of Kingstree; two daughters, Mrs. Redonia Thomas of Greenville; and Mrs. Diane Barr of Hemingway; two brothers, Wesley Adamson of Kingstree; and Willie Joe Adamson of Manning; and five sisters, Mrs. Lillie Bell Cooper and Mrs. Ruth McKnight, both of Kingstree; Mrs. Diane McManus of Andrews; Mrs. Juanita Singletary of Richmond, VA; and Mrs. Sharon Epps of Kingstree.
CHANDLER -- Funeral services for Mrs. Helen Mae Odell Tucker Chandler were held Monday, March 22, 1999, at the Church of God and True Holiness Church in Georgetown, conducted by Elder Nathaniel Gamble, Sr. Burial followed in Greenlawn Cemetery in Kingstree directed by Dimery and Rogers Funeral Home. Mrs. Chandler, 57, died Wednesday, March 17, 1999, at Carolinas Hospital System-Florence. She was born June 23, 1941, in Williamsburg County, a daughter of the late Nathaniel Tucker and Daisy Scott Tucker. She was housewife. She was a member of the Church of God and True Holiness. Survivors are: four sons, Esau Chandler, Leroy Chandler and Bernard Chandler, all of Kingstree; and Norris Chandler of Myrtle Beach; three daughters, Mrs. Patricia Shaw and Mrs. Cheryl Tisdlae of Kingstree; and Mrs. Frances Chandler of Myrtle Beach; three brothers, James Tucker of Kingstree; Willie Tucker of Lake City; and A. J. Tucker of Florence; and two sisters, Mrs. Mary Barr Rochester and Mrs. Mattie Tucker, both of Rochester, N.Y.
BAKER -- Nell Roberts Baker, 92, widow of Spofford Baker, died Monday, March 1, 1999, in a Kingstree hospital. Funeral services for Mrs. Baker were held Thursday, March 4, 1999, in the Kingstree First Baptist Church. Burial followed in Buffalo Baptist Church Cemetery near Kershaw directed by Williamsburg Funeral Home. Mrs. Baker was born in Kershaw County, a daughter of the late Sam Hazel Roberts, Sr. and Martha William Roberts. She was retired from Springs Industries and a member of Kingstree First Baptist Church. Survivors are: two daughters, Vivian B. Catoe of Kingstree; and Lillian B. Patterson of Pickens.
