Posted By: GenealogyBuff.com LAWRIMORE -- Willie James "Billy" Lawrimore, Jr., 65, died Wednesday, July 16, 1997, at his residence. Funeral services were held Friday, July 18, 1997, at Hemingway First Baptist Church. Burial followed at Lawrimore Memorial Cemetery directed by Morris Funeral Home. Mr. Lawrimore was born in Hemingway, a son of the late Willie James Lawrimore, Sr. and the late Almead Pope Lawrimore. He was a graduate of Hemingway High School and attended Clemson University and Coker College. He was a member of Hemingway First Baptist Church and was a former deacon and Sunday school teacher. He served in the U.S. Army during peacetime, was a retired rural letter carrier and farmer. He was a member of Indiantown Masonic Lodge #165 and Hemingway American Legion Post #84. Survivors are: his wife, Camilla Prosser Lawrimore of Hemingway; two sons, W.J. Lawrimore, III, of Florence, and Charles A. Lawrimore of Hemingway; one daughter, Camilla L. Thompson of Hemingway; one brother, Willard Lawrimore of Hemingway; and three sisters, Ruth L. Shaw of Hemingway; Katie L. Fenters of Moncks Corner; and Jewell L. Newsom of Hartsville.
ADAMS -- Graveside funeral services for Cecil S. Adams, 75, were held Thursday, July 17, 1997, at New Providence Baptist Church Cemetery, conducted by Reverend Gary Adams. Brown-Pennington-Atkins Funeral Home was in charge. Mr. Adams died Wednesday, July 16, 1997. Born in Darlington County, he was a son of the late Jimmy A. Adams and Nora Eva O'Neal Adams. He was retired from Sonoco Products Company and was a member of the Old Timers Club and Moose Lodge No. 1770. During World War II he served in the 77th Infantry Division in the South Pacific. Survivors are: one son, Steven Adams of Hartsville; two brothers, Reverend Gary Adams of Kingstree; and Edwin Adams of Hartsville; and two sisters, Carolyn Stokes of Hartsville; and Fayedeen Johnson of Belville, MI.
McCREA -- Funeral services for Mrs. Ida McBride McCrea were held Thursday, July 24, 1997, at St. Mary African Methodist Episcopal Church in Salters, conducted by Rev. Nathan Morris and Rev. Jack Dais. Burial followed in the churchyard cemetery directed by Redmond-Richardson Funeral Home. Mrs. McCrea, 92, died Saturday, July 19, 1997, at the Prince George Healthcare Facility in Georgetown. She was born June 9, 1905, in Salters, the daughter of Jessie Conley McBride and Martha McClary McBride. She was a member of St. Mary African Methodist Episcopal Church, where she served as the pastor's aide, member of the senior choir, deaconess, Stewardess Board and the Women's Missionary Society. She also attended the senior citizen center in Trio, was a member of the Farmer's Aide, Household of Ruth and Jointstock. Survivors are: two daughters, Mrs. Hattie Richburg of Seat Pleasant, Md.; and Mrs. Mary J. Scott of Ferndale, N.Y.; four step-daughter,s Mrs. Mary Burgess and Mrs. Margaret Dais, both of Salters; Mrs. Hallie Mason of Detroit, MI; and Evangelist Orrie Bell Edwards of Brooklyn, N.Y.; three sisters, Mabel McBride and Mrs. Oneather Singleton, both of Salters; and Mrs. Pearl Brown of New York, N.Y.; and six brothers, Jessie McBride; James O. McBride; Pete McBride and David Wilson, all of Salters; Frank McBride of Florence; and Jacob McBride of Philadelphia, Pa.
PROCTOR -- Swengel Prentice Proctor, 84, died Monday, July 21, 1997, in a local convalescent center. Funeral services were held Thursday, July 24, 1997, in the Florence Memorial Gardens Mausoleum Chapel directed by Waters-Powell Funeral Home. He was born in Raeford, North Carolina, but spent most of his life in Florence. He was an adjuster for Federal Crop Insurance Company. He was a charter member of St. Paul United Methodist Church. He was also a member of Florence BPOE Lodge 1020. Survivors are: one daughter, Barbara P. Mooney of Kingstree; and one son, Richard Proctor of Myrtle Beach.
CARRAWAY -- Mrs. Beatrice Scott Carraway, 74, wife of W. B. (Bill) Carraway, died Tuesday, July 22, 1997, in a Columbia hospital. Funeral services were held Thursday, July 24, 1997, in the Williamsburg Presbyterian Church. Burial followed in Kingstree Memorial Gardens directed by Williamsburg Funeral Home. Mrs. Carraway was born in Salters, a daughter of the late George Walter and Arrie Buddin Scott. She was a graduate of Greeleyville High School and was retired from Baxter Labs in Kingstree. Mrs. Carraway was a member of Williamsburg Presbyterian Church. Survivors, in addition to her husband of Kingstree, are: one daughter, Anne C. Martin of Columbia; one son, LeGrand Carraway of Kingstree; eight sisters, Daisy Hughes of Charleston; Helen Timmons of Salters; Evelyn Cain of Columbia; Edna Mims of Manning; Janet McCrea and Virginia Tedder, both of Kingstree; Gracie Chandler of Lane; and Doris Tisdale of St. Stephen.
WILLIAMSON -- Mrs. Janie Covington Williamson, 86, widow of Berry I. Williamson, died Sunday, July 27, 1997, in a Lake City hospital. Funeral services were held Tuesday, July 29, 1997, in the Kingstree First Baptist Church. Burial followed in Kingstree Memorial Gardens directed by Williamsburg Funeral Home. Mrs. Williamson was born near Salters, a daughter of the late James Hanford and Clementine Everett Covington. She was a member of Kingstree First Baptist Church. Survivors are: four daughters, Elsie Jones of Florence, Margie Kellahan of Kingstree; Marie Anderson of Muskegon, Michigan; and Victoria William-son of Rockville, Maryland; four sons, Eldred Williamson of Greeleyville; Ollie Williamson of West Columbia; Travis William-son of Liberty; and Ray Williamson of Signal Mountain, Tenn.
GAMBLE -- Funeral services for Marcella Gamble were held Tuesday, July 29, 1997, at Jerusalem United Methodist Church in Salters, conducted by Rev. Rufus L. Snowden. Burial followed at the churchyard cemetery directed by Redmond-Richardson Funeral Home. Ms. Gamble, 39, died Wednesday, July 24, 1997, at McLeod Regional Medical Center in Florence. She was born January 12, 1958, in Salters, the daughter of Thomas and Lillie Smith Gamble. She graduated from Williamsburg-Blakely High School. She was member of Jerusalem United Methodist Church. Survivors are: one daughter, La'Netta Gamble of the home; one son, Greg Gamble of the home; three brothers, Leroy Gamble and Louis Gamble, both of Salters; and Sylvester Gamble of Seattle, Wa.; and one sister, Celestine Gamble of Wilmington, N.C.
MITCHELL -- Funeral services for Ben Mitchell, Jr. were held Saturday, July 26, 1997, at the William N. Redmond Memorial Chapel, conducted by Rev. Julius Wilson, Sr. Burial followed at McGill Cemetery in Greeleyville directed by Redmond-Richardson Funeral Home. Mr. Mitchell died Sunday, July 20, 1997, at Homestead Hospital in Homestead, Florida. He was born December 26, 1937, in Wedgefield, South Carolina, a son of the late Ben Mitchell, Sr. and Ada Bracy Mitchell. He was a member of God's Way Holiness Church in Goulds, Florida. He worked for a number of years as a plumber and truck driver with Coker Plumbing. Survivors are: his wife, Mrs. Ethel Lee Mitchell of the home; one daughter, Mrs. Mary Alice Wilson of Kingstree; two brothers, Rev. John Mitchell of Leisure City, FL; and Randolph Mitchell of Burlington, N.C.; one sister, Louise Mitchell of Sumter; and his mother-in-law, Mrs. Lourina Bradley of Kingstree.
BROWN -- Funeral services for Lloyd Brown, Jr. were held Friday, July 25, 1997, at St. John United Methodist Church in Lake City, conducted by Rev. Ronald Lucas. Burial followed at McKenzie Cemetery directed by Samuels and Richardson Funeral Home. Mr. Brown died Saturday, July 19, 1997, at McLeod Regional Medical Center in Florence. He was born November 16, 1944, in Florence County, the son of Mrs. Ola Mae Brown and the late Rev. Lloyd Brown, Sr. He was a member of St. John United Methodist Church. He was a former member of the Will Do Masonic Lodge No. 322. He was self-employed as a plumber and electrician. He worked for many years for Turbeville Electric. Survivors, in addition to his mother of Lake City, are: his wife, Mrs. Yvonne Brown of Paterson, N.J.; two sons, Michael Brown and Dwayne Brown, both of Paterson, N.J.; one daughter, Katherine Brown of Paterson, N.J.; five brothers, David Brown, Jonathan Brown, McCurry Brown and Clayton Brown, all of Lake City; and Malachia Brown of Paterson, N.J.; and four sisters, Mrs. Inez Fulmore, Pernette Brown, Mrs. Oletha Cameron and Mrs. Perlease Davis, all of Paterson, N.J.
EPPS -- Funeral services for Elder Albert "A.B" Epps, Sr. were held Sunday, July 27, 1997, at Believers Holiness Convention Center in Coward, conducted by Moderator K. L. Gibson and Elder Henry Epps, Jr. Burial followed in the McKenzie Cemetery directed by Samuels and Richardson Funeral Home. Elder Epps died Wednesday, July 23, 1997, in McLeod Regional Medical Center. Elder Epps, a son of the late Rebeun Epps and Mary Pressley Epps and step-son of the late Bessie Evans Epps, was born October 8, 1927, in Lake City. He served as pastor of Silver Lane Mission, St. Peter Baptist, Wilson Grove Baptist, Hickory Grove Baptist and was presently pastoring at Piney Grove Baptist Church in the Sandy Bay Community. He served as president of the Freewill Baptist Association Union, chairman of the Freewill Baptist Executive Board and as vice moderator of the Freewill Baptist Association. He was also a member of the St. Joseph Masonic Lodge No. 450. He was a farmer. He was also employed at the Lake City Hospital for many years and served as one of the chaplains of the Samuels and Richardson Funeral Home. Survivors are: his wife, Georgiana B. Epps of the home; four sons, Rev. Albert Epps, Jr. of Florence; Roger Epps, John Epps, all of Lake City; and Ronnie Epps of Scranton; seven daughters, Evangelist Roberta Bradley of Cades; Carrie Gamble of Columbia; Ruthie Bynum and Fosie Epps, all of Scranton; Karen Epps of the home; Linda Burgess of Lumberton, N.C.; and Joette Darden of Kingstree; and one brother, Bishop Henry Epps, Sr. of Lake City; one sister, Fosie Fulton of Philadelphia, Pa.
