BRYANT -- Funeral services for Edward "Eddie" Bryant, Sr. were held Saturday, April 17, 1999, at St. Michael United Methodist Church in Kingstree, conducted by Dr. Charles R. Conner, Jr. and Rev. James L. Friday. Burial followed in the churchyard cemetery directed by Redmond-Richardson Funeral Home. Mr. Bryant died Monday, April 12, 1999, at McLeod Regional Center in Florence. He was born July 4, 1935, in Kingstree, a son of the late David Gamble and Alice Bryant Brown. He was a member of St. Michael United Methodist Church, where he served as a member of the United Methodist Men, Male Chorus and President of the Ensemble Choir and was actively involved in the Sunday school and Bible study. He earned a living as a construction worker. Survivors are: his wife, Mrs. Alice L. Bryant of the home; five sons, Edward Bryant, Jr. of Rochester, N.Y.; Manuel "Robbie" Bryant of Kershaw, S.C.; Michael Puttman and Damien Hucks, both of Rochester, N.Y.; and William "Bill" McFadden Bryant of Kingstree; two daughters, Mrs. Marceia Blake of Country Cannon, CA; and Mrs. Dottie Burrows of Kingstree; one foster daughter, Denise Standbeck of Kingstree; seven sisters, Mrs. Mary Leak of Baltimore, Md; Mrs. Pearlisha Gamble, Mrs. Lillie Toussaint and Mrs. Mary Patricia Gamble-Baptise, all of Miami, FL; Mrs. Nettie Pendergrass of Kingstree; Francena Bryant of Brooklyn, N.Y.; and Mrs. Joanne Robertson of Homestead, FL; eight brothers, Willie Gamble, Robert Gamble, Lloyd Gamble and Jimmie Gamble, all of Miami, FL; Rev. Bruce Gamble of Florence; John Gamble of New Haven, CT; William Fluitt and Robert Fluitt, both of Rochester, N.Y.

MCCREA -- Funeral services for Willie Joe "Stackley" McCrea were held Tuesday, April 13, 1999, at St. Paul United Methodist Church in Kingstree, conducted by Rev. Frank James. Burial followed in the churchıs cemetery directed by Dimery and Rogers Funeral Home. Mr. McCrea, 95, died Friday, April 9, 1999, at Kingstree Nursing Facility in Kingstree. He was born February 4, 1904, in Williamsburg County, a son of the late Robert McCrea and Racheal McCrea. Mr. McCrea was a retired farmer. He was a member of St. Paul United Methodist Church. Survivors are: two sons, Joe Louis McCrea and James E. McCrea, both of Kingstree; two daughters, Mrs. Bernetha Mumford of Florence; and Mrs. Elmira Dukes of Kingstree; two sisters, Mrs. Thelma Williams of Baltimore, MD; and Mrs. Mary Tisdale of Greeleyville; one granddaughter raised as his own, Mrs. Christal Bell Shaw of Kingstree; three step-sons, Robert Tisdale of Kingstree; Chester Tisdale of Philadelphia, PA; and William Tisdale of Rochester, N.Y.; and four step-daughters, Mrs. Lucille McGill, Mrs. Jannie Moyde, Mrs. Minnie Shaw and Mrs. Nancy York, all of Kingstree.

FULTON -- Funeral services for Nathaniel "Tannie" Fulton were held Tuesday, April 20, 1999, at St. Mary United Methodist Church in Kingstree, conducted by Rev. Sam Lucas. Burial followed at St. Mary United Methodist Church Cemetery directed by Dimery and Rogers Funeral Home. Mr. Fulton, 73, died Friday, April 16, 1999, at his residence in Kingstree. Mr. Fulton was born April 3, 1925, in Williamsburg County, a son of the late James Fulton and Beatrice Pauline Holloway. He was a graduate of Tomlinson High School. He was a self-employed carpenter. He was a veteran in the United States Navy and fought in World War II. He was a member of St. Mary United Methodist Church. He was also a former secretary for the American Legion Post 220. Survivors are: his wife, Mrs. Mary "Mamie" Fulton of Kingstree; three sons, George D. "Moochie" Fulton, Fred "Speedy" Fulton and Edmond "Porkey" Fulton, all of Kingstree; one daughter, Mrs. Gracia Vivian Carroll of Atlanta, GA.; two brothers, Heyward Fulton of Kingstree; and Fred Elijah Fulton of Laurelton, N.Y.; and two sisters, Mrs. Edith Barr of Charleston; and Mrs. Ometta King of Philadelphia, PA.

SELLERS -- Funeral services for Ernestine Able Sellers were held April 20, 1999, at Latta United Methodist Church. Burial followed in the Magnolia Cemetery in Latta directed by Kannaday's Funeral Home in Latta. Mrs. Sellers, wife of the late John C. Sellers, died April 17, 1999. She was born in Leesville, S.C., July 14, 1911, and was the daughter of the late George Ernest and Lucy Mae Williams Able. She graduated from Mullins High School and was a 1932 graduate of Winthrop College, formerly a teacher of Home Economics and post-war adult classes at Latta High School. She was a member of Latta United Methodist Church, Dillon United Methodist, Kingstree United Methodist Church, Lelia Epps Circle and past president of Green Thumb Garden Club as well other clubs and organizations. Survivors are: one son, John C. Sellers of Columbia; one daughter, Sandra Sellers Waldron of Columbia; and two sisters, Mrs. John Allen Brigman and Mrs. Frances Able Camp of Latta.

DORRELL -- Frankie Parrott Dorrell, 71, wife of William R. Dorrell, died Monday, May 17, 1999, in a Florence hospital. Funeral services were held Thurs., May 20, 1999, in the Broad Swamp Pentecostal Holiness Church. Burial followed in the Parrott Family Cemetery directed by Williamsburg Funeral Home. Mrs. Dorrell was born in Kingstree, a daughter of the late Merritt E. Parrott and Sally Rainer Parrott. She was a graduate of Kingstree High School and was a member of Kingstree United Methodist Church. Survivors, in addition to her husband of Kingstree, are: four sons, Jack R. Dorrell, Barry M. Dorrell and W. Frank Dorrell, all of Kingstree; and Larry R. Dorrell of Albuquerque, NM.

CONYERS -- Funeral services for Mrs. Laura Mae Brown Conyers were held Sat., May 22, 1999, at St. John Baptist Church in Greeleyville, conducted by Rev. Talbert Dickson. Burial followed in the church's cemetery directed by Dimery and Rogers Funeral Home. Mrs. Conyers, 78, died Monday, May 17, 1999, at Carolinas Hospital System-Lake City. She was born January 15, 1921, in Clarendon County, a daughter of the late Peter McKeever Brown and Annie Louise Montgomery Brown. She was a housewife and worked several years with the Williamsburg County Summer Food Lunch Program in the Snowhill Community. She was a member of St. John Baptist Church, where she served in the following auxiliaries, President of the Home Missionary Society and Kitchen Committee and a member of the Flowers Club. She was a member of Williamsburg Missionary Baptist Educational Association, a member of Williamsburg County Voters League and the first African American female to vote in the Mt. Vernon Precinct in Williamsburg County. Survivors are: four sons, Louis Conyers, Jr. of Greeleyville; Sammy Lee Conyers of Charleston; McKeever Conyers and Rev. Obed Conyers, both of Greeleyville; five daughters, Mrs. Gardenia Williams of Baltimore, MD; Mrs. Annie Montgomery, Mrs. Florence Christine Mack, Mrs. Betty Green and Mrs. Loretta Easterling, all of Greeleyville; one brother, McKeiver Brown of Greeleyville; one step-brother, Ben Olin Brown of Greeleyville; and two sisters, Mrs. Louise Davis and Mrs. Carrie Whack, both of Charleston.

McELVEEN -- Mrs. Florence Epps McElveen, 85, widow of Wilbert E. McElveen, died Friday, May 21, 1999. Funeral services were held Sunday, May 23, 1999, in the Williamsburg Presbyterian Church. Burial followed in Kingstree Memorial Gardens directed by Williamsburg Funeral Home. Mrs. McElveen, was born in Williamsburg County, a daughter of the late Joe Epps and Julia Welch Epps. She was a former employee of Williamsburg County Memorial Hospital and retired as house supervisor for Kelly Nursing Home. She was a member of Williamsburg Presbyterian Church. Survivors are: three daughters, Julianne M. Brown, Mary Jo M. Smith and Ginny M. Graham-Peele, all of Kingstree; and one sister, Mrs. Lydia E. Kirby of Kingstree.

SMALLS -- Funeral services for Mrs. Sylvesta "Vessie" Price Smalls were held May 22, 1999, at Mount Zion United Methodist Church in Kingstree, conducted by Rev. Willie Wilson. Burial followed in the Kingstree Cemetery directed by Redmond-Richardson Funeral Home. Mrs. Smalls, 89, died May 16, 1999, at Carolinas Hospital System-Kingstree. She was born January 26, 1910, in Kingstree, the daughter of the late Walter Sylvester Price and Diana Cooper Price. She was a member of Mount Zion United Methodist Church, where she served as President of the United Methodist Women, member of Council of Ministries, member of the Administration Board and as Church Historian. She graduated from Dunbar High School in Washington, D.C. She received both her B.S. and M.S. degrees from South Carolina State College in Orangeburg. She pursued study at Columbia University in New York City, and Tuskegee Institute in Tuskegee, AL. After 39 years as a high school teacher, 26 years at Tomlinson High School and the remaining years at Brown and Battery Park High Schools, she retired in May 1971. In 1982, she wrote a historical account of Mount Zion United Methodist Church. Her narrative, Lest We Forget, covers a period of over 175 years from the church's beginning, 1805 to 1982. A copy of this document was placed in the archives of the South Carolina United Methodist Church Conference. Her honors and awards include the Living The Legacy Award presented in 1987 by the Council of Negro Women, Inc. in Columbia and Woman of the Year 1988 for Williamsburg County, by the National Association for the Advancement of Colored People (NAACP). She was affiliated with the Delta Tau Zeta, Chapter of Zeta Phi Beta Sorority, Inc. She was a life member of the NAACP, the National Education Association (NEA), the S.C. Retired Educators Association and the S.C. State College National Alumni Association, Inc. Surviving is one son, William Sylvester Smalls of Kingstree.

DARROW -- Lillie Ard Darrow, 83, died May 23, 1999, at Grand Strand Health Care. Funeral services were held Tuesday, May 25, 1999, at the Second Baptist Church in Kingstree. Burial followed in the church cemetery directed by Goldfinch Funeral Home, Beach Chapel. Born September 10, 1915, in Kingstree, she was the daughter of the late Wade and Julia Horn Sauls. She was pre-deceased by three husbands, Edward L. Baylor, Jr., M.H. (Tootie) Ard and Arthur C. Darrow. She was a member of the First Baptist Church in Myrtle Beach. She was a charter member of Owens Baptist Church in Kingstree, now known as the Second Baptist Church of Kingstree. Survivors are: one daughter, Judy Mishoe of Myrtle Beach; and two step-daughters, Patricia Hanniford Brown of Manning; and Betty Spence of Jacksonville, Fla.

BELUE -- Funeral services for Josephine Crawford Belue, 72, were held Friday, May 7, 1999, at the Brown-Pennington-Atkins Funeral Home Chapel, conducted by Rev. Danny DuBose. Burial followed at Magnolia Cemetery. Mrs. Belue, widow of Fred Belue, died Wednesday, May 5, 1999. Born in Union, S.C., she was a daughter of the late Harod Simpson and Ella Fair Crawford. She was a member of Fourth Street Baptist Church and was previously employed by Byerly Hospital. Survivors are: three sons, Charles Belue and Bobby Belue, both of Kingstree; and Dwight Belue of Spartanburg; three daughters, Karen Poston and Joyce Belue, both of Hartsville; and Sue Smith of Lake City; and one brother, Jack Crawford of Bergenfield, N.J.
