Posted By: GenealogyBuff.com MURRAY -- Funeral services for Mrs. Mary Viola Sabb Murray were held Wed., July 28, 1999, at Trinity Baptist Church in Greeleyville, conducted by Rev. Richard Addison. Burial followed in Keels Cemetery in Greeleyville directed by Dimery and Rogers Funeral Home. Mrs. Murray, 76, died Friday, July 23, 1999, at Ron McNair Nursing Home in Lake City. She was born November 22, 1922, in Gourdine, a daughter of the late Mrs. Clara M. Sabb. She was raised by her uncle and aunt, Morris and Annette Sabb. She was employed by Greeleyville Dry Cleaners for 26 years; after which she built and ran her own business, "Murray Sweet Shoppe" in Greeleyville. She was also employed by the Department of Social Services for 20 years. She was a member of Trinity Baptist Church. Survivors are: three sons, Lovette Dunbar Murray, Jr. of Brooklyn, N.Y.; Wade Elliott Murray of Kingstree; and Timothy Murray of Greeleyville; four daughters, Mrs. Margaret Ann Nelson of Long Island, N.Y.; Mrs. Pearline Jeanette Baker, Mrs. Florence Celestine Williams and Subrena Maxine Murray, all of Greeleyville; and one brother, Chris "Skitch" Sabb of Jacksonville, Fla.
MORRIS -- James T. Morris, 58, died Wednesday, July 28, 1999, at his residence. Graveside funeral services were held Tuesday, August 3, 1999, in the Gaskins Cemetery near Lake City directed by Brockington Funeral Home. Mr. Morris was born in Lake City, a son of the late Sylvester T. and Hazel Matthews Morris. He was a TV and radio repairman and had served in the U.S. Army. Survivors are: one daughter, Donna L. Howle of Hartsville; one step-daughter, Tina Castellucci of Timmonsville; one step-son, Jason Clay of Timmonsville; and one brother, O'Neal W. Morris of Kingstree.
DAVIS -- Funeral services for Deaconess Jainie Ruth Liner Davis were held Thurs., July 1, 1999, at Kelly Temple Church of God in Christ in New York, N. Y. Deaconess Davis died Thurs., June 24, 1999, at Our Lady of Mercy Hospital in Bronx, N.Y. She was born Sept. 11, 1896 in Kingstree, the daughter of the late Abraham and Charity Liner. She was employed as a professional machine operator in the garment district for many years. During her 34 years of service to Kelly Temple Church in God, she was a Pastoršs Aide worker, a member of #1 Senior Choir and served as Deaconess of the church. Survivors are: one adopted daughter, Nye Passy; and one brother, Samuel Liner.
KIRBY -- Donald M. Kirby, Sr., 61, died Monday, August 2, 1999, in a Florence hospital. Funeral services were held Wed., August 4, 1999, in the Lake City Pentecostal Holiness Church. Burial followed in the Lake City Memorial Park directed by Brockington Funeral Home. Mr. Kirby was born in Williamsburg County, a son of Lydia Epps Kirby and the late Marvin Kirby. He was a graduate of Greeleyville High School and the owner and operator of Kirby's Trucking Service. He was a member of the Lake City Pentecostal Holiness Church. Survivors, in addition to his mother of Kingstree, are: his wife, Mrs. Katie Rose Rodgers Kirby of Lake City; three sons, Donald M. Kirby, Jr. and Linwood Glen Kirby, both of Florence; and Wayne E. Kirby of Lake City; and two brothers, Jimmy Kirby and Bill Kirby, both of Kingstree.
FENNELL -- C. Legrand Fennell, 67, died Monday, August 2, 1999, in the VA Hospital in Charleston. Funeral services were held Thursday, August 5, 1999, in the Little Star Free Will Baptist Church. Burial followed in Carter Cemetery directed by Brockington Funeral Home. Mr. Fennell was born in Florence County, a son of the late Christion Edward and Jenny Lois Nettles Fennell. He was a retired carpenter and attended the Little Star Free Will Baptist Church. He was a marine veteran of the Korean War. Survivors are: two sisters, Mrs. Geneva Pickett of Florence; and Mrs. Eunice Gause of Kingstree; and four brothers, Homer B. Fennell of Johnsonville; John R. C. Fennell, Bobby N. Fennell and Ray Fennell, all of Lake City.
LAMBERT -- Brandy Jack Lambert, 19, died Tuesday, July 27, 1999, from injuries sustained in an automobile accident. Mr. Lambert was born in Georgetown County, a son of the Richard Lambert of Fyffe, Alabama and Cathy Lynch of Kingstree. He was a 1999 graduate of Geraldine High School and attended New Hope Baptist Church. Survivors, in addition to his parents, include a twin brother Andy Lambert and Joel Lambert of Fyffe, Alabama; and Jamie Lambert of Effingham.
BUFKIN -- Funeral services for Leroy Bufkin, Sr. were held Monday, August 9, at Greater Bethel A.M.E. Church in Kingstree, conducted by Rev. Jerome Wilson. Burial followed in Greenlawn Cemetery in Kingstree directed by Dimery and Rogers. Mr. Bufkin, 71, died August 5, 1999, at Carolinas Hospital System-Florence. He was born March 25, 1928, in Kingstree, a son of the late Martin Bufkin and Jannie Holmes. He was a building and construction worker. He was a member of Greater Bethel A.M.E. Church. Survivors are: four daughters, Dorothy Bufkin of the home; Mrs. Louise "Gina" Stafford and Mrs. Loretta Johnson, both of Kingstree; and Lawanda O. Bufkin of Orangeburg; five sons, Leroy Bufkin, Jr., Jimmy Bufkin, Robbie Bufkin, Willie Bufkin and Anthony Bufkin, all of Kingstree; two brothers, Melvin O. Bufkin, Sr. and Robert Smith of Philadelphia, PA.; and one sister, Mrs. Anniebelle Shuler of Philadelphia, PA.
MAYRANT -- Funeral services for Earl Matthews were held August 5, 1999, at Union Baptist Church in Salters, conducted by Rev. Willie Bryant. Burial followed in Rockyford Cemetery in Salters directed by Dimery and Rogers Funeral Home. Mr. Matthews, 44, died July 31, 1999, at MUSC in Charleston. He was born Feb. 5, 1955, a son of Sadie Matthews Felder and Linburg McAlister. He graduated from Williamsburg County Training School. He was employed with Globe Communication and Colonial Rubber Company. Survivors, in addition to his mother of Georgetown, are: his wife, Mrs. Beulah Izzard Matthews of Salters; three sons, Nicholas Wilson of Chicago, Ill.; Trevor Izzard and Orlando Matthews, both of Salters; two daughters, Sha-kemia Izzard and Aneesha Matthews, both of Salters; his step-father, James Felder of Georgetown; a grand-aunt who reared him, Mrs. Annie Lee Izzard of Salters; two brothers, George McAlister of Riverside, CA.; and Douglas McAlister of Coats, N.C.; and six sisters, Mrs. Debbie Moody of Maryland; Mrs. Linda McAlister of San Diego, CA.; Mrs. Cynthia Jackson of San Diego, CA.; Mrs. Virginia Covington of Raleigh, N.C.; Mrs. Sharon Freeman of Atlanta, GA.; and Mrs. Denise Baron of Las Vegas, Nevada.
MAYRANT -- Memorial services for Evelyn "Powder" Ernestine Mayrant were held August 7, at Siloam Baptist Church in Kingstree, conducted by Rev. Francis Burrows and directed by Redmond-Richardson. Ms. Mayrant, 45, formerly of Kingstree, died August 1, 1999, at her residence in Greensboro, N.C. She was born July 20, 1954, in Kingstree, a daughter of Mrs. Ivey Anderson Mayrant and the late Cain Mayrant. She graduated from Tomlinson High School in Kingstree. In 1974, she obtained a bachelor of chemistry degree from Francis Marion University in Florence. She was employed with Coca-Cola Bottling Co. until she moved out of state. She worked at Miller Brewing Co. as a chemist. She opened Enchantment Doll Hospital where she made and repaired dolls. Survivors, in addition to her mother of Greensboro, N.C., are: two daughters, Carmelita Mayrant of Decatur, Ga.; and Consuela Mayrant of the home; and four sisters, Mrs. Patricia A. Williams of Freeport, N.Y.; Mrs. Mae Murphy of Kingstree; Mildred Mayrant of Columbia; and Janice M. Chandler of Atlanta, Ga.
DAVIS -- Funeral services for Roshaun Leon Davis were held Friday, August 6, at St. John A.M.E. Church in Trio, conducted by Rev. Frankie Hugie. Burial followed in the churchyard cemetery directed by Henryhand Funeral Home. Mr. Davis died August 1, as the result of an automobile accident. He was born March 23, 1979, in Georgetown County, a son of Wanda Davis and Derrick Moyd. He was employed by Sampit Lumber Company of Andrews. Survivors, in addition to his parents, are: three brothers, Derrick, La Keith and Adrian, all of Andrews; two sisters, Tangier A'Shaunte and Demetrius of Andrews; his maternal grandparents, James Davis, Jr. and Shirley Davis of Trio; his paternal grandparents, Lillian Moyd of Andrews and James Booker of Houston, Texas; and his paternal great-grandmother, Bertha Moyd of Andrews.
