Posted By: GenealogyBuff.com BARR -- Funeral services for Mrs. Evelyn Gamble Barr were held Thursday, August 7, 1997, at the Church of God and True Holiness in Georgetown, conducted by Elder Nathaniel Gamble. Burial followed in St. Luke Cemetery in Georgetown County directed by Dimery and Rogers Funeral Home. Mrs. Barr, 81, died Saturday, August 2, 1997, at her residence in Kingstree. She was born July 9, 1916, in Williamsburg County, a daughter of the late Moses Gamble and Mary Gamble. She was a housewife. She was a member of the Church of God and True Holiness where served as Mother of the Church, president of the Sisters Department, a member of the adult choir and a former Bible class teacher. She taught the youth of the church. Survivors are: five sons, John Barr of Durham, North Carolina; Joseph Barr of Kingstree; Louis Barr, Jr. of Rochester, New York; David Barr of Kingstree; and Thomas Barr of Durham, North Carolina; five daughters, Mrs. Anna Harris of Buffalo, New York; Mrs. Esther Fulton of Kingstree; Mrs. Eleanor Brown of Lake City; Mrs. Evelena Cobb of Kingstree; and Mrs. Mary Lou Cobb of Durham, North Carolina; two brothers, Elder Eli Gamble and James Gamble, both of Kingstree; and seven sisters, Mrs. Mallie Gamble of Pamplico; Mrs. Sally McCrea of Hallandale, Florida; Mrs. Lillie Newborn of Hamden, Connecticut; Mrs. Marie Sheffield of Hollywood, Florida; Ms. Leola Brockington of Ft. Lauderdale, Florida; Mrs. Mary Scott of Kingstree; and Mrs. Pearl Morris of Durham, North Carolina.
GRAHAM -- James E. Graham, 54, died Thursday, August 14, 1997, in the Regional Medical Center in Orangeburg. Funeral services were held Saturday, August 16, 1997, in the Gilead Free Will Baptist Church. Burial followed in the High Hill Free Will Baptist Church Cemetery. Mr. Graham was born in Indiantown, a son of the late Charlie L. Graham and Jackie Prosser Graham. He was a graduate of Falls College in Atlanta, Ga. with a degree in drafting and was employed as a designer with Jacob's Applied Technology. He was a member of Northgate Baptist Church of Orangeburg where he served as treasurer and Sunday school teacher for 25 years and was a former deacon. He served in the McEntire Air National Guard. Survivors are: his wife, Mrs. Harriette Caulder Graham of Orangeburg; two daughters, Chanda Hamilton and Dawn Wells, both of Orangeburg; one son, James Benjamin Graham of Orangeburg; four brothers, Wayne L. Graham of Gosben, Ohio; Joseph L. Graham and Harold A. Graham, both of Cades; and Sidney T. Graham of Kingstree; and one sister, Marilyn G. Morris of Kingstree.
WISE -- Lois Hayes Wise, 67, died Sunday, August 17, 1997, in a Florence hospital. Funeral services were held Tuesday, August 19, 1997, in the Stoudenmire-Dowling Fun-eral Home Chapel. Burial followed in the Florence Memorial Gardens Cemetery. Mrs. Wise was born in Scranton, a daughter of the late Holland B. and Minnie Earp Hayes. She was a member of the Faith Covenant Church and also the Intersessery Prayer group. Survivors are: her husband, Carnice D. Wise; one daughter, Anne Marie Wise of Florence; two brothers, Earl Hayes of Pamplico; and Ernest Hayes of Florence; and three sisters, Margaret Stone of Kingstree; Vonnie Turner of Pamplico; and Jerrilyn Fraley of Florence.
DuBROFF -- Mrs. Anne Farber DuBroff, 91, widow of Dan DuBroff, died Saturday, August 9, 1997, in Pompano Beach, Fla. Graveside funeral services were held Thursday, August 14, 1997, in Beth Or Cemetery directed by Williamsburg Funeral Home. Mrs. DuBroff was born in St. Louis, Missouri, a daughter of the late Solomon and Rose Farber. She was a retired merchant.
MOORE -- Funeral services for Mrs. Ruby Mae Starling Moore was held Monday, August 18, 1997, at Union Baptist Church in Salters, conducted by Rev. Willie Bryant. Burial followed in Rockyford Cemetery in Salters directed by Dimery and Rogers Funeral Home. Mrs. Ruby Mae Starling Moore, 45, died Wednesday, August 13, 1997, at McLeod Regional Medical Center in Florence. She was born July 8, 1952, in Salters, a daughter of Leland Starling and the late Martha Gamble Starling. She was employed as a seamstress. She was a member of Union Baptist Church, where she formerly served as a usher of the church and as a member of the Lillie White Order of the Eastern Star #349. Survivors, in addition to her father of Salters, are: her husband, Lemuel "Larry" Moore of Salters; three daughters, Janice Yoland Moore, Charlene Annette Moore and Ashley Antionette Moore, all of Salters; six brothers, Deacon Charlie Starling of Salters; Willie James Starling of Chicago, Illinois; Frank Starling of Lane; Willie Lee Starling of Charleston; Michael Kelly of Florence; and Sammie Lee Kelly of Florence; two sisters, Mrs. Martha Ann Moore of Salters; and Mrs. Hazel Rodgers of Fayetteville, North Carolina; and her mother-in-law, Mrs. Mary Ann Moore of Salters.
MCELVEEN -- Lori McKinney McElveen, 32, former wife of David McElveen, died Saturday, August 16, 1997, at Greenville Memorial Hospital. Graveside services were held Monday, August 18, 1997, in Woodlawn Memorial Park in Greenville. A graduate of Clemson University, Lori was owner of LAM Realty Group, chairperson for Leader Dog Committee for Lion's Clubs of District 32-A and was a member of Berea First Baptist Church. Survivors, in addition to her mother, Judie Price of Easley, and her father, Larry A. McKinney of Greenville, are: one son, Logan McElveen of Greenville; one twin sister, Leslie M. Davis of Easley; three brothers, L. Allen McKinney, A. Brent McKinney and Marty J. Price, all of Greenville; and her grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. Ralph J. Campbell and Mr. and Mrs. Robert F. MCELVEEN -- Margaret "Peggy" Lovett McElveen, 57, died Saturday, August 16, 1997, at her residence on Isle of Palms. Funeral services were held Tuesday, August 19, 1997, in Sunrise Presbyterian Church, Sullivan's Island and burial was in Kingstree Memorial Gardens on Wednesday, August 20, 1997. Mrs. McElveen was born in Kingstree, a daughter of George J. Lovett and Adell Ward Lovett. She was a graduate of Kings-tree High School and a member of Sunrise Presbyterian Church. She was the widow of Charles L. "Charlie" McElveen, Jr. Survivors, in addition to her mother of Kingstree, are: three sons, Charles L. "Chuck" McElveen, III, of Chicago, Illinois; Douglas G. "Doug" McElveen of Summerville; and Gary S. McElveen of Mount Pleasant; two brothers, George J. "Dick" Lovett of Allentown, Pa.; and Thomas L. "Tommy" Lovett of Summerville; and one sister, Linda L. Parker of Mount Pleasant and five grandchildren. Memorials may be sent to The Community Foundation, 456 King Street, Charleston, SC 29403.
SAMUEL -- Funeral services for Mrs. Annie Laurie Wilson Samuel were held Saturday, August 23, 1997, at Antioch Baptist Church in Kingstree, conducted by Rev. Talbert Dickson. Burial followed in Antioch Baptist Church Cemetery directed by Dimery and Rogers Funeral Home. Mrs. Samuel, 58, died Tuesday, August 19, 1997, at Georgetown County Memorial Hospital in Georgetown. She was born February 2, 1939, in Kingstree, a daughter of Mrs. Minnie Morris Wilson and the late John Wilson. She was employed as a nurse's aide at St. Ann's Nursing Home in Rochester, N.Y. for 23 years. She was a member of St. Paul Holiness Church and was a church usher. Survivors, in addition to her mother of Kingstree, are: her husband, Eugene Samuel, Sr. of Kingstree; five sons, Lamar Samuel, Eugene Samuel, Jr., Orlando Samuel and Micheal Anthony Samuel, all of Rochester, N.Y.; and Raymond Samuel of Kingstree; one daughter, Lisa Ann Samuel of Rochester, N.Y.; five brothers, John Wilson, Jr. of Kingstree; Sam Wilson of Melbourne, Florida; Willie Joe Wilson, Jerry Wilson and Johnny Mack Wilson, all of Rochester, N.Y.; and six sisters, Mrs. Queenie Green, Mrs. Dorothy Gamble, Mrs. Minnie Cooper, Azalee Wilson, Mrs. Barbara Wilson and Mrs. Rochelle Perry, all of Rochester, N.Y.
LEWIS -- Mrs. Sybil F. Lewis, 71, wife of Aubrey Lewis, died Thursday, August 14, 1997, in a Columbia hospital. Funeral services were held Sunday, August 17, 1997, at Kingstree First Assembly of God Church. Burial followed in Kingstree Memorial Gardens directed by Williamsburg Funeral Home. Mrs. Lewis was born April 10, 1926, in Robeson County, N.C., a daughter of Hallie Spivey Floyd and G.R. Floyd, Sr. She was a homemaker and a member of Kingstree First Assembly of God Church. Survivors are: her husband of Kingstree; one daughter, Mrs. Nell Smith of Irmo, S.C.; one son, Rev. Wayne Lewis of Port Royal, S.C.; three brothers, James William Floyd of Hickory, N.C.; G. R. Floyd, Jr. and Erskine Floyd of Orrum, N.C.; and four sisters, Vivian F. Stone of St. Paul, N.C.; Carolyn F. Byrd of Orrum, N.C.; Gwendolyn F. Holler of Maiden, North Caarolina; and Evelyn H. Floyd of Newton, North Carolina.
HARRELL -- Mrs. Esther Meadows Harrell, 98, of Little Rock, AR, formerly of Kingstree, died Saturday, August 16, 1997, in Little Rock. Memorial services were held Tuesday, August 19, 1997, in Little Rock. Burial was held in Kingstree. Mrs. Harrell was born in North Carolina. She was a retired school teacher, having taught for 42 years in Batesburg, Kingstree and Greenville schools. She was a member of Buncombe Street United Me-thodist Church in Greenville and was the widow of Martin M. Harrell. Survivors are: one daughter, Arden Harrell Kate of Fayetteville, AR.; and one sister, Gladys Brown of Danville, Va.
