Posted By: GenealogyBuff.com CHINA -- Funeral serivces for Mrs. Essie Rose Lee China were held Friday, January 21, 2000, at St. James Baptist Church in Greeleyville, conducted by the Rev. Albert Rose. Burial followed at St. James Baptist Church Cemetery directed by Dimery and Rogers Funeral Home. China, 90, died Sunday, January 16, 2000, at High Smith Rainey Memorial Hospital in NC. She was born June 6, 1909, in Greeleyville, a daughter of the late John Gist and Pinkey Gamble. Survivors are; one son, Odell China of Baltimore, MD; two daughters, Mrs. Ishmael China of Raleigh, NC; and Jessie Harris of Fayetteville, NC; two sisters, Mrs. Virgeree King of Foreston, SC; and Mrs. Ivory Gist of Troy, NY; and one brother, J. C. Blanding of Weldon, NC.
HUELL -- Funeral services for Mrs. Lillie Irene Grannison Huell were held Tuesday, January 25, 2000, at St. Luke United Methodist Church in Salters, conducted by the Rev. Rufus Snowden. Burial followed in the Jerusalem United Methodist Churchyard cemetery directed by Henryhand Funeral Home. Huell died Thursday, Janury 20, at her home. She was born August 18, 1921, in Williams-burg County, a daughter of the late the Rev. Watson and Susan Cooper Grannison. She was a member of Jerusalem United Methodist Church. She was a member of Farmers Aid, Joint Stock, Household of Ruth Lodges and Providence Chapter No. 249 Order of the Eastern Star. She sang with the gospel group, The Gospel Crusaders. She served as a volunteer with the Trio Senior Citizens Group and most recently with the St. Mary's Senior Citizens' Group. She was married to the late Freddie Huell. Survivors are: four sons, Dan Huell of Miami, FL; Freddie Huell, Harry Huell and Clarence Huell, all of Salters; three daughters, Mrs. Ethel Frazier Wilson of Salters; Mrs. Catherine Carey of Camden, DE; and Mrs. Aleane Huell Lockhart of East Orange, NJ; one grandson she raised in the home, Jackie Huell of St. Petersburg, FL; one great-grandson who resides in the home, Lionel McClary; two brothers, Watson Grannison of Clearwater, FL; and Orie Grannison of Lane; and one sister, Mrs. Elizabeth Joyner of Clearwater, FL.
DAVIS -- Funeral services for Willie Davis, Jr. were held Tuesday, January 18, 2000, at Siloam Baptist Church in Kingstree, conducted by the Rev. Francis Burrows. Burial followed in the Kingstree Cemetery directed by Henryhand Funeral Home. Davis was born April 5, 1927, in Williamsburg County, a son of the late Willie Davis, Sr. and Ossie Mullins Davis. He died January 12, at Carolinas Hospital System-Kingstree. He was employed as a supervisor by Drexel Furniture Co. for 45 years. He was a member of Siloam Baptist Church in Kingstree. Survivors are: his wife, Mrs. Pearlie Mae Davis of the home; three sons, Larry Davis of Utica, NY; Allen Davis and Jerome Davis, both of Kingstree; two daughters, Shirley Fulton and Willie Mae Flagler, both of Kingstree; and his mother-in-law, Mrs. Mary Brown of Utica, NY.
PHIFER -- Mrs. Evelyn Kelley Phifer, 83, of Rockingham, NC, died January 16, 2000, at Richmond Memorial Hospital. Funeral services were held January 19, 2000, at Marks Funeral Home Chapel, conducted by the Rev. Randy Forrester. Burial followed at Eastside Cemetery directed by Marks Funeral Home. Phifer was born December 6, 1916, in Kingstree. She was the daughter of the late Dr. Edward Theron Kelley and Lorena Rose Kelley. She was a homemaker. Survivors are: three sons, Theron Miller of N. Myrtle Beach; Patrick Phifer of Charlotte, NC; and Hector Phifer of Rockingham; and three daughters, Mrs. Marilyn Smith of New Bern, NC; Mrs. Vicki Williams of Henderson, NC; and Mrs. Claudia Shelley of Rockingham; nephews Edward F. Eatmon of Kingstree and Edward T. Kelley III of Georgetown; and niece, Margaret "Peggy" K. Jenkinson of Kingstree.
SWINTON -- Funeral services for Sanders Swinton, Sr. were held Saturday, January 22, 2000, at St. Phillip AME Church in Salters, conducted by the Rev. Melvin McClennon and the Rev. O'Neal Miller. Burial followed in the Smith-Cooper Cemetery in Salters directed by Henryhand Funeral Home. Swinton died January 18, at McLeod Regional Medical Center in Florence. He was born December 7, 1924, in Williamsburg County, the son of the late Dave Swinton and Emma McClary Swinton. He was a member of St. Phillip AME Church. He was united in holy matrimony to the late Mrs. Hallie McGill Swinton. Survivors are: five sons, Tommy Swinton and Harry Swinton, both of Washington, DC; Clybert Swinton of Pineville; Robert Swinton and Sanders Swinton, Jr., both of Salters; three daughters, Matilda McCrea of Washington, DC; Mary Lee Brown of Salters; and Rachael Swinton of Arlington, VA; three brothers, Sonny Swinton of Detroit, MI; Joe McClary of Florida; and Thomas McCrea of Salters; and six sisters, Emma J. Singletary and Daisy Spearman, both of Washington, DC; Maltida Lewis of Philadelphia, PA; Martha McCrea, Jannie Bradley and Lucile Fruitt, all of Salters.
WILSON -- Funeral services for Esau Daniel Wilson were held Saturday, January 20, 2000, at St. James AME Church in Lane, conducted by the Rev. Jerome Wilson. Burial followed at St. James AME Cemetery in Lane directed by Dimery and Rogers Funeral Home. Wilson, 84, died Monday, January 17, 2000, at his residence in Lane. He was born June 15, 1915, in Lane, a son of the late Arthur Wilson and Mattie Wilson. He was a retired farmer. He was a member of St. James AME Church, where he served as class leader and church sexton. He was united in holy matrimony to the late Mrs. Sallie Ann Brunson Wilson. Survivors are: two sons, Esau Wilson, Jr. and George Lee Wilson, both of Lane; eight daughters, Louise Anderson, Dorothy Camp, Azalee Myers, Mildred Weston, Betty Thompson and Mary Ann Wilson, all of Philadelphia, PA; Annie Mae McDowell of Jacksonville, FL; and Mary Magdlene Starks of Greeleyville.
MOYD -- Graveside services for Baby Johnny Moyd, Jr. were held Wednesday, January 19, 2000, at Antioch Baptist Church Cemetery in Kingstree directed by Dimery and Rogers Funeral Home. Baby Moyd was born January 17, 2000, a son of Johnny Moyd and Henrietta Nesmith in Clarendon County Memorial Hospital in Manning. Survivors, in addition to his parents, are: one brother, Kenneth Nesmith of Kingstree; one sister, Tianna Moyd of Kingstree; his grandmother, Mrs. Mabel Pressley of Kings-tree; and his great-grandmother, Mrs. Elizabeth Nesmith of Kingstree.
McCREA -- Funeral services for Tracy Lee McCrea were held January 26, 2000, at Bethel United Methodist Church in Kingstree, conducted by the Rev. Sam Lucas. Burial followed in the churchıs cemetery directed by Dimery and Rogers Funeral Home. McCrea, 22, died Jan. 21, at Carolinas Hospital System-Kingstree. He was born May 4, 1977, in Williamsburg County, a son of Mrs. Stella Mae McCrea. Survivors, in addition to his mother, of Kingstree, are: five brothers, Roger Mack McCrea, Jerry McCrea, James McCrea and Joseph McCrea, all of Kingstree; and Ricky McCrea of Lane; and one sister, Mary McCrea Tisdale of Kingstree.
LANGFORD -- Mrs. Mattie H. Langford, 89, widow of Guy S. Langford, died Friday, January 28, 2000, in a Florence hospital. Funeral services were held Sunday, January 30, 2000, in the Scranton Baptist Church. Burial followed in the Lake City Memorial Park directed by Brockington Funeral Home. Langford was born in Abbeville County, a daughter of the late James Cason and Maggie E. Hollingsworth Haynes. She retired from Greenwood Mills after 25 years of service. She was a member of the Scranton Baptist Church, the Mary-Martha Sunday school class and the Order of the Eastern Star.
CASEY -- Funeral services for Anna Bell "Dump" Casey were held Wednesday, January 26, 2000, at Greater Mount Ararat African Methodist Episcopal Church in Nesmith, conducted by the Rev. Dr. James K. Clarida. Burial followed at Old Mount Ararat Cemetery in Nesmith directed by Redmond-Richardson Funeral Home. Mrs. Casey, 57, died Friday, January 21, 2000, at her residence in Kingstree. She was born July 19, 1942, in Williamsburg County, a daughter of the late Glennie and Mary Scott Casey. She was a member of Greater Mount Ararat A.M.E. Church, where she sang on the choir. Survivors are: her husband, Joseph Louis Franklin of Georgetown; one daugher, Mrs. Mary Doreathea Walters of the home; one son, Wayne Casey of Kingstree; and one sister, Mrs. Lucille Frazier of Kingstree.
