Posted By: GenealogyBuff.com COOPER -- Funeral services for Christopher Antonio Cooper were held Wednesday, December 29, 1999, at Miracle Temple Bible Center in Salters, conducted by the Rev. Mary Scott. Burial followed in the Cowhead Cemetery in Gourdine directed by Dimery and Rogers Funeral Home. Master Cooper, 13, died Friday, December 24, 1999, at his home in Kingstree. He was born May 30, 1986, in Kingstree, a son of Ronnie Cooper and Cassandra Annette Hollins Cooper. He was a member of Miracle Temple Baptist Church. Survivors, in addition to his parents, are: two sisters, Yoland Cooper of Kingstree; Kendra Tisdale of Hartsville; one brother, Ronnie Cooper of Kingstree; his grandparents, Mrs. Anna Starks Williams and Mrs. Annie Mae Cooper, both of Kingstree; Penrose Hollins of Wilmington, Delaware; and Earl Williams of Myrtle Beach.
GREAVES -- Funeral services for Hank D. Greaves were held Friday, December 31, 1999, at Dimery and Rogers Funeral Home Chapel in Kingstree, conducted by the Rev. Francis Burrows. Dimery and Rogers Funeral Home was in charge of arrrangements. Greaves, 83, died Wednesday, December 29, 1999, at Kingstree Nursing Home in Kingstree. He was born March 6, 1916, in Grenada. He was a former engineer with Stephen Ground Company. He was a member of Siloam Baptist Church. Surviving is his wife, Mrs. Ada Greaves of Kingstree.
SNOWDEN -- Funeral services for Jerry Phillip Snowden were held Friday, December 31, 1999, at Union Baptist Church in Salters, conducted by the Rev. Willie Bryant. Burial followed in Cowhead Cemetery in Gourdine directed by Dimery and Rogers Funeral Home. Snowden, 41, died Monday, December 27, 1999, at his residence in Salters. He was born September 17, 1958, in Detroit, MI, a son of Prince Snowden and Virginia Jackson Snowden. He graduated from Finney High School. He was formerly employed in the grocery industry in Detroit and later employed at Scottswood Plantation in Salters. He was a member of Pentecostal Temple Church in Detroit, MI. Survivors, in addition to his parents of Detroit, MI, are: his wife, Melonese Snowden of Salters; one son, Quinton Snowden of Detroit, MI; one daughter, Mrs. Christina Snowden of Detroit, MI; his paternal grandmother, Mrs. Alice Gamble Snowden of Detroit, MI; five brothers, Nathaniel Snowden of Salters; Chester Snowden, Prince Snowden, Jr., James Snowden, Troy Snowden of Detroit, MI; his father- and mother-in-law, George and Martha Moore of Salters; and his grandfather- and grandmother-in-law, Leland and Addie Starling of Salters.
McCREA -- Funeral services for Mrs. Emma McClary McCrea were held Thursday, December 30, 1999, at St. Luke United Methodist Church in Salters, conducted by the Rev. Rufus Snowden. Burial followed in Jerusalem United Methodist Church Cemetery in Salters directed by Dimery and Rogers Funeral Home. McCrea, 67, died Saturday, December 25, 1999, at the Medical University of South Carolina in Charleston. She was born September 24, 1932, a daughter of the late Hannah McClary and Mammie McClary. She graduated from St. Stephens High School in Berkeley County. She was a member of Jerusalem United Methodist Church and Perry Community Baptist Church in New York. She was also a member of the Farmers Aide Great Hope Lodge #8. Survivors are: her husband, Nehemiah McCrea of the home; five children, Diann McCrea and Mrs. Mary Ann Trotter, both of Salters; Ronnie McCrea and Nathaniel McCrea, both of Buffalo, NY; Leonard McCrea of Salters; one son reared as her own, Uysuf James of Kingstree; five sisters, Mrs. Earline Sabb of Salters; Mrs. Sarah Lockhart, Mrs. Margaret McClary and Mrs. Julet McClary, all of Columbia; and Mrs. Alice Gray of Rochester, NY; and four brothers, Johnnie McClary, Eddie McClary, Jimmy McClary, all of Salters; and Leon McClary of Buffalo, NY.
HAMMOND -- Funeral services for Mrs. Clara Mae Oates Hammond were held Saturday, January 22, 2000, at Andrews Elementary School in Andrews, conducted by Elder Gary Jouett. Burial followed January 23, in Mt. Olive Cemetery in Mt. Olive, NC directed by Dimery and Rogers Funeral Home. Hammond, 89, died Tuesday, January 17, 2000, at Carolinas Hospital System-Florence. She was born November 29, 1910, in Faison, NC, a daughter of the late William Henry Oates and Novella Leach Oates. She was the widow of the late Clifton Hammond. She was a member of Bloomingvale Seventh Day Adventist Church, where she served as superintendent, Deaconess and Cradleroll Teacher. Survivors are: four sons, James Hammond of Beltsville, MD; William Henry Hammond of Orangeburg; Clarence Hammond of San Jose, CA; and Cornelius Hammond of An-drews; six daughters, Mrs. Aleese Grissett of Supply, NC; Mrs. Margaret Hammond and Mrs. Mattie Durousseau, both of Andrews; Mrs. Connie Roberson of Brooklyn, NY; Deloris Hammond of Vies-baden, Germany; and Mrs. Belina Kennedy of Lane; and two brothers, Arthur Oates of Warsaw, NC; and James Oates of Mt. Olive, NC.
DANTZLER -- Funeral services for Edward Lee "Lighting" Dantzler were held Saturday, January 22, 2000, at St. James Baptist Church in Greeleyville, conducted by the Rev. Albert Rose. Burial followed at St. James Baptist Church Cemetery directed by Dimery and Rogers Funeral Home. Dantzler, 48, died Friday, Janaury 10, 2000, at Imperial Point Medical Center in Ft. Lauderdale, FL. He was born April 10, 1951, in Greeleyville, a son of Mrs. Girlene Hayes Dantzler and the late Benjamin F. Dantzler. He was reared by Madison and Janie Hayes. He was a member of St. James Baptist Church. Survivors, in addition to his mother of Hattiesburg, MS, are: three brothers, Kenneth Dantzler of Pompano Beach, FL; Benjamin Dantzler (Tuesday) of Peakskill, NY; and James Danztler of Germany; and three sisters, Mrs. Rutha Hamilton and Mrs. Tyra Young, both of Pompano Beach, FL; and Sharon Dantzler.
CHINA -- Funeral serivces for Mrs. Essie Rose Lee China were held Friday, January 21, 2000, at St. James Baptist Church in Greeleyville, conducted by the Rev. Albert Rose. Burial followed at St. James Baptist Church Cemetery directed by Dimery and Rogers Funeral Home. China, 90, died Sunday, January 16, 2000, at High Smith Rainey Memorial Hospital in NC. She was born June 6, 1909, in Greeleyville, a daughter of the late John Gist and Pinkey Gamble. Survivors are; one son, Odell China of Baltimore, MD; two daughters, Mrs. Ishmael China of Raleigh, NC; and Jessie Harris of Fayetteville, NC; two sisters, Mrs. Virgeree King of Foreston, SC; and Mrs. Ivory Gist of Troy, NY; and one brother, J. C. Blanding of Weldon, NC.
HUELL -- Funeral services for Mrs. Lillie Irene Grannison Huell were held Tuesday, January 25, 2000, at St. Luke United Methodist Church in Salters, conducted by the Rev. Rufus Snowden. Burial followed in the Jerusalem United Methodist Churchyard cemetery directed by Henryhand Funeral Home. Huell died Thursday, Janury 20, at her home. She was born August 18, 1921, in Williams-burg County, a daughter of the late the Rev. Watson and Susan Cooper Grannison. She was a member of Jerusalem United Methodist Church. She was a member of Farmers Aid, Joint Stock, Household of Ruth Lodges and Providence Chapter No. 249 Order of the Eastern Star. She sang with the gospel group, The Gospel Crusaders. She served as a volunteer with the Trio Senior Citizens Group and most recently with the St. Mary's Senior Citizens' Group. She was married to the late Freddie Huell. Survivors are: four sons, Dan Huell of Miami, FL; Freddie Huell, Harry Huell and Clarence Huell, all of Salters; three daughters, Mrs. Ethel Frazier Wilson of Salters; Mrs. Catherine Carey of Camden, DE; and Mrs. Aleane Huell Lockhart of East Orange, NJ; one grandson she raised in the home, Jackie Huell of St. Petersburg, FL; one great-grandson who resides in the home, Lionel McClary; two brothers, Watson Grannison of Clearwater, FL; and Orie Grannison of Lane; and one sister, Mrs. Elizabeth Joyner of Clearwater, FL.
DAVIS -- Funeral services for Willie Davis, Jr. were held Tuesday, January 18, 2000, at Siloam Baptist Church in Kingstree, conducted by the Rev. Francis Burrows. Burial followed in the Kingstree Cemetery directed by Henryhand Funeral Home. Davis was born April 5, 1927, in Williamsburg County, a son of the late Willie Davis, Sr. and Ossie Mullins Davis. He died January 12, at Carolinas Hospital System-Kingstree. He was employed as a supervisor by Drexel Furniture Co. for 45 years. He was a member of Siloam Baptist Church in Kingstree. Survivors are: his wife, Mrs. Pearlie Mae Davis of the home; three sons, Larry Davis of Utica, NY; Allen Davis and Jerome Davis, both of Kingstree; two daughters, Shirley Fulton and Willie Mae Flagler, both of Kingstree; and his mother-in-law, Mrs. Mary Brown of Utica, NY.
PHIFER -- Mrs. Evelyn Kelley Phifer, 83, of Rockingham, NC, died January 16, 2000, at Richmond Memorial Hospital. Funeral services were held January 19, 2000, at Marks Funeral Home Chapel, conducted by the Rev. Randy Forrester. Burial followed at Eastside Cemetery directed by Marks Funeral Home. Phifer was born December 6, 1916, in Kingstree. She was the daughter of the late Dr. Edward Theron Kelley and Lorena Rose Kelley. She was a homemaker. Survivors are: three sons, Theron Miller of N. Myrtle Beach; Patrick Phifer of Charlotte, NC; and Hector Phifer of Rockingham; and three daughters, Mrs. Marilyn Smith of New Bern, NC; Mrs. Vicki Williams of Henderson, NC; and Mrs. Claudia Shelley of Rockingham; nephews Edward F. Eatmon of Kingstree and Edward T. Kelley III of Georgetown; and niece, Margaret "Peggy" K. Jenkinson of Kingstree.
