Posted By: GenealogyBuff.com SWINTON -- Funeral services for Sanders Swinton, Sr. were held Saturday, January 22, 2000, at St. Phillip AME Church in Salters, conducted by the Rev. Melvin McClennon and the Rev. O'Neal Miller. Burial followed in the Smith-Cooper Cemetery in Salters directed by Henryhand Funeral Home. Swinton died January 18, at McLeod Regional Medical Center in Florence. He was born December 7, 1924, in Williamsburg County, the son of the late Dave Swinton and Emma McClary Swinton. He was a member of St. Phillip AME Church. He was united in holy matrimony to the late Mrs. Hallie McGill Swinton. Survivors are: five sons, Tommy Swinton and Harry Swinton, both of Washington, DC; Clybert Swinton of Pineville; Robert Swinton and Sanders Swinton, Jr., both of Salters; three daughters, Matilda McCrea of Washington, DC; Mary Lee Brown of Salters; and Rachael Swinton of Arlington, VA; three brothers, Sonny Swinton of Detroit, MI; Joe McClary of Florida; and Thomas McCrea of Salters; and six sisters, Emma J. Singletary and Daisy Spearman, both of Washington, DC; Maltida Lewis of Philadelphia, PA; Martha McCrea, Jannie Bradley and Lucile Fruitt, all of Salters.
WILSON -- Funeral services for Esau Daniel Wilson were held Saturday, January 20, 2000, at St. James AME Church in Lane, conducted by the Rev. Jerome Wilson. Burial followed at St. James AME Cemetery in Lane directed by Dimery and Rogers Funeral Home. Wilson, 84, died Monday, January 17, 2000, at his residence in Lane. He was born June 15, 1915, in Lane, a son of the late Arthur Wilson and Mattie Wilson. He was a retired farmer. He was a member of St. James AME Church, where he served as class leader and church sexton. He was united in holy matrimony to the late Mrs. Sallie Ann Brunson Wilson. Survivors are: two sons, Esau Wilson, Jr. and George Lee Wilson, both of Lane; eight daughters, Louise Anderson, Dorothy Camp, Azalee Myers, Mildred Weston, Betty Thompson and Mary Ann Wilson, all of Philadelphia, PA; Annie Mae McDowell of Jacksonville, FL; and Mary Magdlene Starks of Greeleyville.
MOYD -- Graveside services for Baby Johnny Moyd, Jr. were held Wednesday, January 19, 2000, at Antioch Baptist Church Cemetery in Kingstree directed by Dimery and Rogers Funeral Home. Baby Moyd was born January 17, 2000, a son of Johnny Moyd and Henrietta Nesmith in Clarendon County Memorial Hospital in Manning. Survivors, in addition to his parents, are: one brother, Kenneth Nesmith of Kingstree; one sister, Tianna Moyd of Kingstree; his grandmother, Mrs. Mabel Pressley of Kings-tree; and his great-grandmother, Mrs. Elizabeth Nesmith of Kingstree.
TOBIN -- Graveside services for Carolyn Nesmith Tobin were held Tuesday, May 2, 2000, in the Nesmith Baptist Church Cemetery, directed by Morris Funeral Home. Mrs. Tobin, 70, died April 30, in a Georgetown hospital. She was born in Nesmith, a daughter of the late Hannibal B. and Cora Turner Nesmith. Surviving are her step-mother, Nathene N. Williamson of Kingstree; four brothers, H. B. "Bo" Nesmith of Nesmith, Nathan Nesmith of Marietta, GA; Joe H. and Ronald Nesmith, both of Kingstree; two sisters, Jean N. Poston of Kingstree and Phyllis N. McConnell of Georgetown. She was pre-deceased by two sons, John E. and Mark S. Tobin.
ROUNDTREE -- Funeral services for Mrs. Rosetta Roundtree were held Sat., May 6, 2000, at St. James A.M.E. Church in Gourdine, conducted by the Rev. Jack Dais. Burial followed at the churchıs cemetery directed by Dimery and Rogers Funeral Home. Mrs. Roundtree, 78, died Friday, April 28, 2000, in Cooper Hospital in Camden, NJ. She was born May 5, 1921, in Lane, a daughter of the late Henry Darby and Mary Emma Cooper. She was a retired environmental specialist. She was a member of Rome Emanuel Baptist Church in Camden, NJ. She was married to the late Frank Roundtree, Jr. Survivors are: one son, Jimmy Roundtree of Camden, NJ; one daughter, Mrs. Dianne Hall of Camden, NJ; one brother, Roosevelt Darby of Lane; one sister, Mrs. Eujurial Wiggins of sister Mrs. Eujurial Wiggins of Pineville, SC; and a niece she reared, Mrs. Mary Lee Ford of Salters.
HARKEN -- Janett McKnight Harken, 78, of Charleston, a retired supervisor of nursing with the Medical University of South Carolina Out Patient Clinic, died Wednesday, May 3, 2000. Funeral services for were held Friday, May 5, 2000, in Lutheran Church of the Redeemer. Burial followed at Bethany Cemetery directed by Stuhr's Downtown Chapel. Mrs. Harken was born in Kingstree, a daughter of Covert P. McKnight and Mary DeBelle Evans McKnight. She was a member of the Arion Society Auxiliary, Elks Lodge Does, MUSC Alumni and Lutheran Church of the Redeemer. Survivors are: her husband, J. Harry Harken; two sons, John H. Harken, III and Thomas R. Harken, both of Charleston; and one sister, Mary E. Jackson of Maryville, TN.
GREENE -- Funeral services for Henry Franklin Greene were held May 10, 2000, at Oak Grove Missionary Baptist Church in Salters, conducted by the Rev. C. W. Green, the Rev. Terrence L. Washington and the Rev. Carl Shaw. Burial followed at Snowden Cemetery in Hemingway directed by Redmond-Richardson Funeral Home. Mr. Greene, 40, died May 6, 2000, at McLeod Regional Medical Center in Florence. He was born April 29, 1960, in Wiliamsburg County, a son of the late Harvey Greene, Sr. and Carrie Harvin Greene. He graduated from Hemingway High School. He was employed by Conway Ford in Conway as a car salesman. Survivors are: his wife, Meredith Lorraine Washington-Greene of the home; four children, Taylor Franklin Greene and Morgan Phylicia Greene, both of the home; Huron Massenburg and Jamara ³Hank² Massenburg, both of Georgetown; five sisters, Mrs. Minnie Mae Generette of Johnsonville; Mrs. Peggy Cooper of Kingstree; Cathy Greene of Loris; Vera Greene and Christie Greene, both of Lake City; five brothers, Frankie Greene of Irvington, NJ; Frank Greene of Johnsonville; William Greene of Oakland, CA; Joseph Greene of Loris; and Harvey Greene, Jr. of Charlotte, NC; father- and mother-in-law, Deacon Isreal and Deaconess Deloris Washington of Greeleyville; his grandparents, Samuel and Helen McKnight of West Palm Beach, Fl; and his great-grandmother, Mrs. Alberta McFadden of Greeleyville.
FOOTMAN -- Funeral services for Mrs. Queen Elizabeth Footman were held April 26, 2000, at St. John 4B Baptist Church in Greeleyville, conducted by the Rev. Jimmy Brockington. Burial followed in Cowhead Cemetery in Greeleyville directed by Henryhand Funeral Home. Mrs. Footman died April 21, 2000, at Carolinas Hospital System-Florence. She was born Sept. 18, 1923, in Williamsburg County, a daughter of the late Jesse and Mary Dukes Bennett. She was married to the late Samson Footman. Survivors are: four daughters, Mrs. Mary Conyers of Lane; Mrs. Cora Parker of Kingstree; Mrs. Evelyn Beaufort of Jacksonville, FL; and Mrs. Carrie Strong of Greeleyville; three sons, Matthew Footman of Greeleyville; David Footman of Jacksonville, SC; and John Footman of Winchester, VA; six sisters, Mrs. Alleen McClary, Mrs. Ada Lee Keels, Mrs. Aletha Conyers, Mrs. Geneva Gamble and Mary York of Troy, NY; and Mrs. Marie Keels of Miami, FL; and one brother, Lead Bennett of Troy, NY.
JOYE -- Joseph Maurice Joye, Sr., 81, died Friday, May 12, 2000, in a Kingstree hospital. Funeral services were held May 15, 2000, in Williamsburg Presbyterian Church. Burial followed in Kingstree Memorial Gardens directed by Williamsburg Funeral Home. Mr. Joye was born in Williamsburg County, a son of the late Thomas LeGrand Joye and Susan Marie Frierson Joye. He was an Army Air Corps veteran of World War II and retired from Trident Technical College as an employment counselor. For the past 18 years, Mr. Joye was a volunteer at Carolinas Hospital System-Kingstree and at the time of his death, was director of volunteer services for the hospital. Survivors are: his wife, Rounette Wrenn Joye of Kingstree; one daughter, Patricia J. Outlaw of Mt. Pleasant; and one son, Joseph M. Joye, Jr. of Columbia.
MYERS -- Funeral services for Nathaniel Myers, Sr. were held May 13, 2000, at Elijah United Methodist Church in Kingstree, conducted by the Rev. Jonathan Brown. Burial followed in the church's cemetery directed by Dimery and Rogers Funeral Home. Mr. Myers, 54, died May 4, 2000, in Camden, NJ. He was born November 7, 1945, in Williamsburg County, a son of the late Wilson Myers and Janie Murphy Myers. He was a computer operator. Survivors are: one son, Nathaniel Myers, Jr. of Brooklyn, NY; two daughters, Mrs. Katherine Myers of Jersey City, NJ; and Sha-ni Addison of Gastonia, NC; two brothers, Ceasar Myers and Jack Myers, both of Kingstree; six sisters, Mrs. Mattie Clark and Mrs. Daisy Scott, both of Camden, NJ; Mrs. Lula Mae Pressley of Pittsburg, PA; Mrs. Rodessa Generette, Mrs. Janie Conyers and Mrs. Nellie Jordan, all of Kingstree.
