Posted By: GenealogyBuff.com GORDON -- William Henry Gordon, 54, owner and operator of Satellite Specialist, died Thursday, April 6, 2000, in a North Charleston hospital. Funeral services were held Saturday, April 8, 2000, in Kingstree Memorial Gardens. Burial was directed by Dial-Murray Funeral Home. Mr. Gordon was born in Kingstree, a son of Clarence H. Gordon and Clara Maness Gordon. He was a graduate of St. Stephen High School and attended Wingate College. He served in the Marine Corps Reserve and attended Friendship Baptist Church in North Carleston. Surviving is one sister, Patsy G. Martin of Kingstree.
BROWN -- Funeral services were held for Mrs. Lula Cunningham Brown on Sunday, April 16, 2000, at John's Tabernacle Pentecostal Holiness Church in Lake City, conducted by Elder Talbert Burgess. Burial followed in McKenzie Cemetery in Lake City directed by Redmond-Richardson Funeral Home. Mrs. Brown, 81, died Wednesday, April 12, 2000, at McLeod Regional Medical Center in Florence. She was born September 27, 1918, in Kingstree, a daughter of the late Isiah and Janie Chandler Reed. She was a member of Johnıs Tabernacle Holiness Church where she served as a member of the Missionary, Senior Choir and Mother Board. She was also the Convention Secretary for many years. Survivors are: two sisters, Mrs. Margaret Cunningham of Queens, NY; and Mrs. Iva Mouzon of Philadelphia, PA; and two brothers, Willis Cunningham of Hurt, VA; and Richard Cunningham of Kingstree.
PRESSLEY -- Funeral services for Woodrow Pressley, Sr. were held on Monday, April 17, 2000, at Old Mt. Zion A.M.E. Church in Kingstree, conducted by the Rev. Benjamin Miller. Burial followed in Burroughs Cemetery in Nesmith directed by Dimery and Rogers Funeral Home. Mr. Pressley, 82, died Wednesday, April 12, 2000, at Carolinas Hospital System-Kingstree. He was born November 17, 1917, in Nesmith, a son of the late William Steele Pressley and Rosa Blanche Harrison Pressley. He was a retired farmer. He was a member of Old Mt. Zion A.M.E. Church and a former member of Andrews Allstars Quartet Group. Survivors are: his wife, Mrs. Jessie Mae Witherspoon Pressley of Kingstree; four sons, Woodrow Pressley, Jr. of Andrews; Ollie Dubose Pressley of Greeleyville; Timmie Pressley of Salters; and Thomas Pressley of Atlanta, GA; one daughter, Mrs. Mary P. Nesmith of Andrews; a granddaughter, reared as his own, Mrs. Johanna Dennis of Kingstree; four sisters, Mrs. Louise P. Bradley of Kingstree; Mrs. Rosa Lee Cooper and Mrs. Alliebelle Pressley, both of Philadelphia, PA; and Mrs. Easter Burgess of Bronx, NY; and two brothers, Ocels Pressley of Cedarsville, NJ; and Leroy Pressley of CT.
SERVICE -- Funeral services for Mrs. Mary Service were held Saturday, April 15, 2000, at Mt. Zion United Methodist Church in Kingstree, conducted by the Rev. Willie Wilson. Burial followed in Greenlawn Cemetery in Kingstree directed by Dimery and Rogers Funeral Home. Mrs. Service, 96, died Sunday, April 9, 2000, at Temple Hospital in Philadelphia, PA. She was born April 15, 1903, in Kingstree, the daughter of William Kinder and Mattie Kinder. She was a member of Mt. Zion United Methodist Church. She was the widow Emerson Service.
RODGERS -- Funeral services for Jermaine Rodgers were held Friday, April 28, 2000, at St. James Missionary Baptist Church in Greeleyville, conducted by the Rev. Albert Rose, Jr. Burial followed at Mt. Zion Missionary Baptist Church Cemetery in Greeleyville directed by Redmond-Richardson Funeral Home. Mr. Rodgers, 23, died Monday, April 24, 2000, at his residence. He was born May 24, 1976, in Kingstree, a son of Wilhemena Rodgers. Survivors, in addition to his mother of the home, are: two brothers, Michael Terry Rodgers of Okinawa, Japan; and Jetonia Rodgers of Kingstree.
GUESS -- James Advil Guess, Sr., 83, died Monday, April 17, 2000, in a Florence hospital. Funeral services were held Wednesday, April 19, 2000, in Union Presbyterian Church. Burial followed in the church cemetery directed by Williamsburg Funeral Home. Mr. Guess was born in Lane, a son of the late James Newcomb Guess and Victoria Davis Guess. Survivors are: his wife, Mell Brown Guess of Lane; one son, James A. Guess, Jr. of Mt. Pleasant; three daughters, Victoria McDonald of Greenville; Rhoda Hayes of Columbia; and Rebecca B. Guess of Florence; and three sisters, Marguerite G. Collins of Hardeeville; Ethel G. McChesney of Traverse City, MI; and Mary Evelyn Rose of San Diego, CA.
GRIFFIN -- Funeral services for James Griffin were held Wednesday, April 26, 2000, at St. Paul United Methodist Church in Kingstree, conducted by the Rev. Frank James. Burial followed in Greenlawn Cemetery in Kingstree directed by Dimery and Rogers Funeral Home. Mr. Griffin, 74, died Saturday, April 22, 2000, at Carolinas Hospital System-Florence. He was born March 25, 1926, in Kingstree, a son of the late Roland Griffin and Ellen Wilson Griffin. He was enlisted in the US Navy and was honorably discharged as a 2nd Class Petty Officer. He retired from Triplett Peek, Inc. He was a member of St. Paul United Methodist Church and the United Methodist Men. Survivors are: three sons, Harvey James and Albert Griffin, both of Rochester, NY; and Jimmy Keith of Duluth, Ga; three daughters, Mrs. Jannie McCray of Rochester, NY; and Mary Fagan and Maldonia Griffin, both of Duluth, Ga; one brother, Elder Johnny Lee Shaw of Florida; and two sisters, Mrs. Mary Wilson of Andrews; and Mrs. Caroline Shaw of Kingstree.
GIBSON -- Graveside services for Baby Boy Kevon J. Gibson were held Saturday, April 29, 2000, at St. Mary A.M.E. Cemetery in Lane, directed by Dimery and Rogers Funeral Home. Baby Boy Gibson was born April 25, 2000, at the Medical University of South Carolina in Charleston, the son of Cassius Lamont Gibson and Natasha Rene Murray. He died Arpil 25. Survivors, in addition to his parents of Lane, are: one brother, Alphonso McCrea of Salters; one sister, Santazia Gibson of Lane; his maternal grandparents, Mrs. Doris Murray of Lane; and Willie Murray of NY; his paternal grandparents, Mrs. Angela Gibson and Felder Gibson of Salters; and his great-grandparents, Mrs. Anna Bell James of Lane; David Wilson of Salters; and Julius Gibson of Morrisville.
CHATMAN -- Funeral services for Karen Elizabeth Chatman were held Monday, May 1, 2000, at Saint James Missionary Baptist Church in Greeleyville, conducted by the Rev. Albert Rose, Jr. Burial followed at Saint James Missionary Baptist Church Cemetery in Greeleyville directed by Redmond-Richardson Funeral Home. Ms. Chatman, 34, died Wednesday, April 26, 2000, at Carolinas Hospital System-Florence. She was born September 14, 1965, in Washington, DC, a daughter of James Chatman, Sr. and the late Mrs. Betty Hall Chatman. Survivors, in addition to her father of Washington, DC, are: one son, Antione Lynch of Washington, DC; two brothers, Keith Chatman of Washington, DC; and James Chatman, Jr. of Danbury, CT and one sister, Viola Lee Council of Danbury.
MISHOE -- Jerry M. Mishoe, 69, died Sunday, May 14, 2000, at his residence. Funeral services for Mr. Mishoe were held Tuesday, May 16, 2000, in the Lake City First Baptist Church. Burial followed in the Lake City Memorial Park directed by Brockington Funeral Home. Mr. Mishoe was born in Lake City, a son of Emma Kirby Mishoe and the late William Mayberry Mishoe. He was chief magistrate of Williamsburg County, municipal judge for the city of Kingstree, former ASCS and FSA Board member of Williamsburg County. He was a farmer and former tobacco warehouseman. He was a member of the Lake City Masonic Lodge #193 A.F.M. and a member of the Lake City First Baptist Church. Survivors, in addition to his mother of Lake City, are: his wife, Doris Daniels Mishoe of Lake City; three daughters, Dale Strange of Georgetown; Gale Morris and Debbie Smith, both of Lake City; one son, Wayne Mishoe of Lake City; one brother, Harry B. Mishoe of Jacksonville, FL; four sisters, Sara Porter and Joan Evans, both of Lake City; Kathryn Kyzer of Columbia; and Barbara Wall of Scranton.
