Posted By: GenealogyBuff.com TISDALE -- David Tisdale, 86, died Sunday, May 14, 2000, in a Florence hospital. Funeral services were held Wednesday, May 17, 2000, in the Williamsburg Funeral Home Chapel. Burial followed in Kingstree Memorial Gardens directed by Williamsburg Funeral Home. Mr. Tisdale was born in Williamsburg County, a son of the late Henry Tisdale and Sula Todd Tisdale. He was a retired heavy equipment operator for Willis Construction Co. and a member of Millwood United Methodist Church. Survivors are: his wife, Mrs. Vera Elise Lewis Tisdale of Kingstree; and one son, David J. Tisdale of Kingstree.
FLOYD -- Funeral services for Hagood Charles Floyd were held Wednesday, May 17, 2000, in the Lake City First Baptist Church. Burial followed in the Lake City Memorial park, directed by Brockington Funeral Home. Mr. Floyd died Monday, May 15, 2000, in a Florence hospital. He was born in Lake City, a son of the late Hagood C. Floyd and Mary Moore Floyd. He attended The Citadel and was a 1955 graduate of the University of South Carolina.. He was a retired real estate investor for Predential Life Insurance Company, a member of Pawley's Island Baptist Church, Optimist Club of Columbia and the Rotary Club of Lumberton, NC. He was an Air Force veteran of the Korean War. He was married to the late Janie McCutcheon Floyd. Survivors include two daughters, Ann Floyd Hanna of Murrells Inlet and Martha Floyd Nance of Florence; one sister, Sarah McDaniel of Lake City; and two brothers, Howard and Don Floyd, both of Lake City.
ADAMS -- Funeral services for Mrs. Louise Bettard Adams were held Thursday, May 18, 2000, at William N. Redmond Memorial Chapel, Redmond-Richardson Funeral Home, conducted by the Rev. Jonathan Brown. Burial followed in Burroughs Cemetery in Nesmith directed by Redmond-Richardson Funeral Home. Mrs. Adams, 82, died Monday, May 15, 2000, at the Good Samaritan Residential Care Facility in Kingstree. She was born July 26, 1917, in Williamsburg County, a daughter of the late David Bettard and Maebelle Harris Bettard. She was a member of Elijah United Methodist Church. He was married to the late Isaac Adams. Survivors are: three brothers, Clarence Bettard of Pamplico; Prince Bettard of Philadelphia, PA; and Willie Bettard of Kingstree; and three sisters, Mrs. Bertha Fulton and Mrs. Jannie Barr, both of Kingstree; and Blanche Bettard of New Jersey.
NEXSEN -- Mrs. Sarah King Nexsen, 42, wife of Samuel James Nexsen, died Sunday, May 21, 2000, in the Kingstree hospital. Funeral services were held Tuesday, May 23, 2000, in the Brockington Funeral Home Chapel. Burial followed in the Lake City Memorial Park. Mrs. Nexsen was born in Florence County, a daughter of Sarah Godwin King and the late Charles G. King, Jr. She was a graduate of Dillon High School, a homemaker and member of the First Baptist Church of Dillon. Survivors, in addition to her mother of Lake City, are: her husband, Samuel James Nexsen of Kingstree; three daughters, Mandy Parrott, Tamara Parrott and Rebecca Horne, all of Kingstree; and three sisters, Vivian Davis of Lake View; Lynn Miles of Lake City; and Connie Cook of New Zion.
DUKES -- Funeral services for Kenneth L. Dukes were held Saturday, May 20, 2000, at Bethel A.M.E. Church in Gourdine. Burial followed in McKnight Cemetery in Lane directed by Dimery and Rogers Funeral Home. Mr. Dukes, 36, died Tuesday, May 16, 2000, at Albert Einsteen Hospital in Philadelphia, PA. He was born January 27, 1963, in Lane, a son of Mrs. Mary Parson Dukes and the late Bennie Dukes. He was a graduate of C.E. Murray High School. He was a member of Bethel A.M.E. Church. Survivors, in addition to his mother of Lane, are: two sons, Mark White of Manning; and Cameron Cox of Virginia; one daughter, Mary White of Manning; three brothers, Bennie Dukes, Jr. of Philadelphia, PA; Ricky Dukes of Lane; and Nathaniel Dukes of Manning; and three sisters, Mrs. Joan Sumpter of Greeleyville; Mrs. Geraldine Conyers of Lane; and Tracie Dukes of Columbia.
FRANKLIN -- Funeral services for Willie Udell Franklin were held Friday, May 19, 2000, at Trinity Baptist Church in Greeleyville, conducted by the Rev. Richard Addison. Burial followed in Hunter Cemetery in Greeleyville directed by Dimery and Rogers Funeral Home. Mr. Franklin, 74, died Saturday, May 13, 2000, at Richland County Memorial Hospital in Columbia. He was born March 22, 1925, in Greeleyville, a son of the late Ernest Franklin and Ruby Henderson. He was a veteran of the United States Navy and fought in World War II. He was formerly employed by Garden Way Tool and Shafer Brewery in Troy, NY. Survivors are: his wife, Mrs. Janie Moore Franklin of Troy, NY; three sons, Luther Moore, Phillip Franklin and Thomas Franklin, all of Troy, NY; six daughters, Mrs. Ruby Franklin Edwards of Kingstree; Mrs. Alice Franklin of Detroit, MI; Mrs. Betty Franklin, Mrs. Elizabeth Franklin, Mrs. Loriann Cannon and Jennifer Franklin, all of Troy, NY; and one sister, Mrs. Pearline Cooper of Kingstree.
HOLLIDAY -- William G. (Bill) Holliday, 47, died Sunday, May 21, 2000, in a Florence hospital. Funeral services were held Tuesday, May 23, 2000, in McClary Cemetery directed by Williamsburg Funeral Home. Mr. Holliday was born in Williamsburg County, a son of Mrs. Margery Brown Holliday and Winston W. Holliday, Jr. He was a heavy equipment operator for the South Carolina Department of Transportation and was a member of Kingstree First Baptist Church and attended Millwood United Methodist Church. Survivors, in addition to his parents of Kingstree, are: his wife, Wanda McClary Holliday of Kingstree; one daughter, Caroline Holliday of Kingstree; one son, Hunter Holliday of Kingstree; and two brothers, Julian Holliday of Kingstree; and Wince Holliday of Columbia. Memorials may be made to McClary Cemetery.
FLOYD -- John David Floyd, 67, died Monday, May 22, 2000, at his residence. Funeral services were held Wednesday, May 24, 2000, in Hanna's Chapel. Burial followed in the Lake City Memorial Park directed by Brockington Funeral Home. Mr. Floyd was born in Florence County, a son of the late William Watson and Ollie Marie Daniels Floyd. He retired from A. B. Dick Company and attended Hannašs Chapel. Survivors are: two daughters, Debra Floyd Cozard of Lake City; and Susan Dennis of Kingstree; one son, David Floyd of Scranton; his step-mother, Mrs. Kizzie Floyd of Effingham; five sisters, Lena Mae Altman of Effingham; Claudia Frye of Florence; Marian Lee and Barbara Pigate, both of Timmonsville; and Delores Marlow of Johnsonville; and three brothers, Barnie Floyd of Olanta; Sambo Floyd of Scranton; and Eddie Floyd of Effingham.
GILES -- Funeral services for Mrs. Sarah McAlister Giles were held Wednesday, May 24, 2000, at Mt. Zion United Methodist Church in Kingstree, conducted by the Rev. Willie Wilson. Burial followed in Kingstree Cemetery directed by Dimery and Rogers Funeral Home. Mrs. Giles, 100, died Wednesday, May 17, 2000, at Golden Heights Health Center in Bridgeport, CT. She was born February 9, 1900, in Kingstree, the daughter of the late Ed McAlister and Laura McAlister. She graduated from Tomlinson High School in Kingstree. She was formerly a school teacher in Williamsburg County. She was a member of Mt. Zion United Methodist Church and was a member of the United Methodist Women. She was a former member of Wesley United Methodist Church in Salters. Survivors are: one daughter, Mrs. Lillian Singletary of Bridgeport, CT; and one sister, Mrs. Charlotte McCrea of Kingstree.
WILSON -- Funeral services for Willie (Swampy) Wilson were held Saturday, May 27, 2000, at Greater Bethel A.M.E. Church in Kingstree, conducted by the Rev. Jerome Wilson. Burial followed at Greenlawn Cemetery directed by Henryhand Funeral home. Mr. Wilson was born January 30, 1933, the son of the late Willie and Janie Davis Wilson. He was employed by Gulf Stream Land Scaping of Miami, FL for over 25 years. Survivors are: three sisters, Mrs. Mary DeVeaux, Mrs. Ruth Pressley and Mrs. Rosa L. Wilson, all of Kingstree; and one brother, Silas Wilson of Kingstree.
