Posted By: GenealogyBuff.com ELOISE PAYNE TILL -- Funeral services for Elizabeth Eloise Payne Till were held Thursday, September 7, 2000, at Dunbar Funeral Home, Devine Street Chapel. Mrs. Till, 78, died Tuesday, September 5, 2000. Born in Kingstree, she was a daughter of the late William L. and Frances Woodham Payne. She attended Columbia College and was a member of the Daughters of American Colonists and Serendipity Club. She was a member of Incarnation Lutheran Church and Marion Baptist Church in Williams, SC. Survivors are: her husband, Charlie E. Till; two daughters, Thomasine Easler and Emma-lee Elizabeth Robbins, both of Columbia; one step-son, Col. John L. Mack of Mt. Pleasant; one step-daughter, Elise M. Rivers of Mt. Pleasant; and two sisters, Tumpy Creech of Sumter; and Peepsie Hammond of Dunwoody, GA.
BEVERLY C. ROGERS -- Beverly Charlton Rogers, 79, retired owner of B. C. Rogers grocery store, died Sat., Sept. 2, 2000, in Summerville. Funeral services were held Monday, September 4, 2000, at the Lane United Methodist Church. Burial followed at Kingstree Memorial Gardens with Masonic rites directed by Williamsburg Funeral Home. Mr. Rogers was born in Salters, a son of the late Willie C. Rogers and Lourine Cantley Rogers. He attended Williamsburg County schools and Purdue University. He had served as a Williamsburg County Magistrate for 22 years and was a member of Lane United Methodist Church. He was a Navy veteran of World War II, a member of the American Legion, the V. F. W. and the Kingstree Moose Lodge, and a Mason and a Shriner. Survivors are: his wife, Mrs. Laura Cantey Rogers of Lane; one son, Tommy Rogers of Summerville; and one sister, Mrs. Molcie R. Tolar of Seminole, FL.
GUSSIE M. MATTHEWS -- Funeral services for Mrs. Gussie Miller Matthews were held Friday, September 8, 2000, at Dimery and Rogers Funeral Home Chapel in Kingstree. Burial followed at McKnight Cemetery in Lane directed by Dimery and Rogers Funeral Home. Mrs. Matthews, 80, died August 31, 2000, at Mary Emmaculate Hospital in Jamaica, NY. She was born March 7, 1920, a daughter of the late Charlie Miller and Kaizariah Bowman Miller. She was the widow of Granville Matthews. She was a member of Bethany Baptist Church in New York. Survivors are: one daughter, Mrs. Velma Johnson of Jamaica, NY; one sister, Mrs. Katie Davis of Stone Mountain, GA; and one brother, Dr. Joseph Miller of Greenwood.
MYRTLE COKER FLOYD -- Mrs. Myrtle Evelyn Coker Floyd, 77, died Wednesday, September 6, 2000, at her residence. Funeral services were held Friday, September 8, 2000, at Barrineau Pentecostal Holiness Church. Burial followed in the church cemetery directed by Floyd Funeral Home of Olanta. Born in Williamsburg County, she was the daughter of the late Matthew Lee Coker and Lizzie Jane Driggers Coker. She was a housewife and a member of Barrineau Pentecostal Holiness Church. She was preceded in death by her daughter, Lizzie Katherine Floyd, and two sons, Elwood Davis Floyd and Herbert Donald Floyd. Survivors are: her husband, Clemus Horace Floyd of Lake City; four daughters, Connie Mixon, Paula Anderson, Darlene Knight and Robin Foxworth, all of Lake City; and eight sons, Lamar Floyd of Turbeville; Wylie and Raymond Floyd of Cades; the Rev. Richard Floyd of Sumter; David Floyd of Lynchburg; and Don Floyd, J. W. Floyd and Rembert Floyd, all of Lake City; and 37 grandchildren and 37 great-grandchildren.
AUBREY JONES -- Funeral services for Msgt. Aubrey Jones were held Monday, August 28, 2000, at Evangelistic Temple Way of the Cross Church in Kingstree, conducted by Elder Roosevelt Fulton. Burial followed in Greenlawn Cemetery in Kingstree directed by Dimery and Rogers Funeral Home. Mr. Jones, 44, died Thursday, August 24, 2000, at his residence in Columbia. He was born September 7, 1955, in Williamsburg County, a son of Mrs. Mamie Jones and the late Sylvester Jones. He was a veteran of the US Air Force. Survivors, in addition to his mother of Kingstree, are: his wife, Mrs. Anna Jones of Columbia; one son, Sylvester Matthews Jones of Columbia; two daughters, Kennetha S. Jones of Columbia; and Mrs. Bobbie M. Christan of Rock Island, IL; and his father-in-law, Paul Brown of Winoski, VT.
CELESTE H. FAIRCLOTH -- Celeste Ham Faircloth, 36, of Myrtle Beach, office manager for Temps Us Temporary Help Service, died Friday, August 25, 2000, at the Medical University of South Carolina in Charleston. Funeral services for Mrs. Faircloth were held Sunday, August 27, 2000, at Elmore-Hill-McCreight Funeral Home, conducted by the Rev. Quay Adams. Burial followed at Sumter Cemetery directed by Elmore-Hill-McCreight Funeral Home. Mrs. Faircloth was born in Columbia, she was a daughter of the late Ray S. Ham and Joyce Johnson Ham. She was the office manager for Temps Us temporary help service in Myrtle Beach. Survivors, in addition to her mother of Myrtle Beach, are: one daughter, Kristen Ann Faircloth of Myrtle Beach; one brother, Raymond LaMotte Ham of Lebanon, ME; one sister, Tracy Ham Wright of Charleston; her paternal grandmother, Ottie Lloyd Brunson of Sumter and her maternal grandmother, Jewel Buddin Johnson of Sumter.
ROBERT CANTY, SR. -- Funeral services for Robert "Chummy" Canty, Sr. were held Saturday, August 26, 2000, at Dimery and Rogers Funeral Home Chapel in Kingstree. Burial followed in Cowhead Cemetery in Lane directed by Dimery and Rogers Funeral Home. Mr. Canty, 78, died Tuesday, August 22, 2000, in Atlanta, GA. He was born December 22, 1921, in Williamsburg County, a son of the late Joseph Canty and Elsie Parson Canty. He was employed as a construction worker in a private industry in Atlanta, GA. He was a veteran of the US Army and fought in World War II. Survivors are: his wife, Mrs. Virginia Hilton Canty of Kingstree; five sons, Boykin Canty of Dinnwiddlie, VA; Floyd Canty and Robert Canty, Jr., both of Atlanta, GA; Jonathan Canty and Moses Canty, both of Wilmington, NC; seven daughters, Mrs. Rebecca Thompson of Philadelphia, PA; Delores Canty and Hattie Canty, both of Atlanta, GA; Mrs. Jennie Dukes of Wilmington, NC; Mrs. Catherine Strong of Kingstree; Mrs. Gwendolyn Delegall of Lane; and Wanda Canty of Kingstree; and one sister, Mrs. Lila McClorin of Moncks Corner.
WILLIE JAMES CHANDLER -- Funeral services for Willie James Chandler were held Saturday, September 2, 2000 at Saint James Missionary Baptist Church in Greeleyville, conducted by the Rev. Albert Rose, Jr. Burial followed at St. James Missionary Baptist Church Cemetery in Greeleyville directed by Redmond-Richardson Funeral Home. Mr. Chandler, 49, died Wednesday, August 30, 2000, at his residence in Kingstree. He was born September 18, 1950, in Williamsburg County, to the late David Chandler, Sr. and Pearline Scott Chandler. He was a member of Sandridge Believer's Holiness Church. He was a farmer. Survivors are: his wife, Mrs. Lue Ella Chandler of the home; five brothers, Sanders Chandler, Anderson Chandler and Jackie Chandler, all of Kingstree; Julius Chandler of Charleston; and David Chandler, Jr. of Myrtle Beach; six sisters, Lillie Bell Smith, Mrs. Virginia Washington, Mrs. Betty Jackson, Mrs. Louisa Hammond and Mrs. Tammy Scott, all of Kingstree; and Lorann Chandler of Florence; his mother-in-law, Mrs. Sadie Footman of Greeleyville; and his grandmother-in-law, Mrs. Elsie Footman of Kingstree.
EDMONDS -- Funeral services for Mrs. Willie Mae Williams Edmonds were held Saturday, June 24, 2000, at Trinity Baptist Church in Greeleyville, conducted by the Rev. Richard Addison. Burial followed at Keels Cemetery in Greeleyville directed by Redmond-Richardson Funeral Home. Mrs. Edmonds, 56, died Monday, June 19, 2000, at Memorial Regional Medical Center in Mechanicsville, VA. She was born December 14, 1943, in Greeleyville, a daughter of Mrs. Eloise Whack Williams and the late Deacon Carol Williams. She graduated from Williamsburg Training School (C. E. Murray High School) in Greeleyville. She continued her education at Tuskegee University in Tuskegee, AL. She was a member of Morning Star Baptist Church in Richmond, VA. She worked for a number of years as a supervisor at the Hanover Correctional Facility in Hanover, VA. Survivors, in addition to her mother of Greeleyville, are: her husband, Joseph Edmonds of the home; one son, Darrel Edmonds of Richmond, VA; five step-daughters, Martha Ed-monds of Queens, NY; Pollie Ellis of Irvington, NJ; Stacey Royster of Philadelphia, PA; Mary Edmonds and Mrs. Barbara Johnson, both of Richmond, VA; one step-son, Clifton Edmonds of Richmond, VA; one sister, Mrs. Mammie L. Jenkins of Highland, CA; one brother, Thomas E. Williams of Greeleyville; and two adopted brothers, Joseph Williams of Denmark; and Otis Williams of Hillcrest Heights, MD.
MORRIS -- Carl Huie "Junior" Morris, Jr., 54, husband of Ruby Roark "Tootie" Morris, died Friday, June 23, 2000, at Carolinas Hospital System-Florence. Funeral services were held Sunday, June 25, 2000, at Stephens Funeral Home Chapel in Manning, conducted by the Rev. Edward Miles. Burial followed in the Mount Hope Cemetery in Greeleyville. Mr. Morris was born March 24, 1946, in Kingstree, a son of the late Carl Huie Morris, Sr. and Louise Evans Morris. He was a welder and pipefitter and a member of Greeleyville Freewill Baptist Church. Survivors are: his wife, of New Zion; one daughter, Carla Morris of New Zion; two sons, Lannie Morris of Kingstree; and Dean Morris of Sumter; two sisters, Toni Klinger of Orangeburg; and Barbara Calhoun of Andrews; and one brother, James Mouzon of Kingstree.
