Mary Solomon

ROCK HILL - Mrs. Mary Catherine Counihan Solomon, 74, of 630 Cauthen St. died Tuesday, May 11, 1999, at home.

The graveside service will be 10 a.m. Friday at Laurelwood Cemetery, with the Rev. Delbert Regier officiating.

A native of Cumberland, Md., Mrs. Solomon was a daughter of the late John Francis Counihan and Mary Teresa Hart Counihan. She was a member of Faith Evangelical Church. She was a retired shipping and receiving clerk with 24 years service at Ostrows.

Surviving are her husband, Aaron P. Solomon; her son, Donald P. Solomon of Fort Worth, Texas; her daughter, Bobbie S. Llewellyn of Sharon; her brother, Adrian Hart Counihan of Cantonsville, Md.; two half- brothers, John Francis Rummer of Cumberland, Md., and Robert Rummer of Keyser, W.Va.; her sister, Ruth E. Grimm of Gettysburg, Pa.; three half-sisters, Teresa A. Rummer, Mary T. Rummer Brown and Teresa Ann Simmons, all of Cumberland, Md.; five grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.

The family will receive friends from 7 to 9 tonight at Greene Funeral Home and at other times at home.

Constance Bower

LAKE WYLIE - Mrs. Constance T. Bower, 81, of 11 Sandy Cove Road died Thursday, May 13, 1999, at Senior Quarters at Lake Wylie.

The graveside service will be 10 a.m. Saturday at River Hill Community Church Cemetery, with the Rev. Jerry Bryant officiating.

A native of New Castle, Pa., Mrs. Bower was a daughter of the late Louis Mucci and Phile Cassella. She was the widow of John Bower.

Surviving are her son, Thomas J. Bower of Lake Wylie; her brother, Willie Mucci of Cleveland Ohio; her sister, Christy Smith of Nashville, Tenn.; three grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.

Memorials may be made to the Humane Society of York County, P.O. Box 10261, Rock Hill, SC 29731.

M.L. Ford & Sons Funeral Home is in charge.

Hassel Cooper

YORK - Mr. Hassel McArthur Cooper, 56, of 1012 McAfee Court died Wednesday, May 12, 1999, at home.

The funeral will be 2 p.m. Saturday at Greene Funeral Home, with the Rev. Buddy Mayne officiating and the Rev. Robin Addair assisting. Burial will be at Grandview Memorial Park.

A native of Buchanan County, Va., Mr. Cooper was a son of the late George Millard Cooper and Nancy Garnett Cooper. He was a retired coal miner and worked for United Steel Co. and Island Creek Coal Co. in the coal fields of western Virginia. He was of the Pentecostal faith.

Surviving are his wife, Patricia Ann Addair Cooper; two sons, Jimmy E. Cooper and Kevin R. Cooper, both of the home; his daughter, Elizabeth Ann Cooper of the home; three brothers, Josh Cooper of Johnson City, Tenn., Graham Cooper of Bland, Va., and Thurman Cooper of Pilgrim Knob, Va.; three sisters, Betty Tristan of Biloxi, Miss., Lois Nicholson of Tuscumbia, Ala., and Thelma Murray of Georgia; and three grandchildren.

The family will receive friends from 7 to 9 tonight at Greene Funeral Home.

Clara Hawkins

ROCK HILL - Mrs. Clara Mae Smith Hawkins, 67, of 1052 Allendale Circle died Wednesday, May 12, 1999, at Piedmont Medical Center.

The graveside service will be 1 p.m. Saturday at Grandview Memorial Park.

A native of Spartanburg, Mrs. Hawkins was the daughter of the late Geddis Smith and Inez Burch Smith. She was a homemaker and member of West End Baptist Church.

Surviving are her husband, Lawrence E. Hawkins; her son, Eric Hawkins of Rock Hill; her daughter, Karen Hawkins Bolt of Rock Hill; two brothers, Troy G. Smith and William Walker "Buddy" Smith, both of Duncan; her sister, Irene Parks of Duncan; two grandchildren; and her great-grandchild.

The family will receive friends from 7 to 9 tonight at Greene Funeral Home and at other times at the home.

Buran Melton

CLOVER - Mr. Buran Max Melton, 73, of 3056 S. Highway 321 died Thursday, May 13, 1999, at home.

The funeral will be 11 a.m. Saturday at Clover First Baptist Church, with the Revs. David Stanford and Warren Fowler officiating. Burial will be at Lakeview Memory Gardens.

A native of York County, Mr. Melton was a son of the late Buford E. Melton and Mattie Bell Wallace Melton. He was owner and operator of Melton's Home and Auto, Western Auto Associate since 1952. He was a U.S. Navy veteran of World War II, where he served in the Pacific. He was a Mason in the Alpine Lodge 208 in Clover, a Shriner and member of the York Rite. Mr. Melton was a charter member of the Clover Optimist Club, longtime member of First Baptist Church and a member of the Veteran of Foreign Wars.

Surviving are his wife, Dorothy Byers Melton; his son, Donald M. Byers of Clover; his daughter, Tracey M. McKown of Clover; two brothers, George R. Melton of Clover and Buford L. Melton of York; his sister, Christine M. Byers of Clover; and his granddaughter.

The family will receive friends from 7 to 9 tonight at M.L. Ford & Sons Funeral Home.

Memorials may be made to First Baptist Church building fund, 117 S. Main St., Clover, SC 29710 or to Hospice Community Care, 325 S. Oakland Ave., Rock Hill, SC 29730.

Mamie Ogburn

ROCK HILL - Mrs. Mamie Worthy Ogburn, 94, of 620 E. Black St. died Wednesday, May 12, 1999, at home.

The funeral will be private.

Bass Funeral Home is in charge.

Blanche Sarvis

ROCK HILL - Mrs. Blanche Parrish Sarvis, 86, of 13 Graham St. died Thursday, May 13, 1999, at White Oak Manor.

The funeral will be 2 p.m. Saturday at Bethel Baptist Church at Lake Wylie, with the Rev. Grady Ghent officiating. Burial will be at Forest Hills Cemetery.

A native of Fort Mill, Mrs. Sarvis was a daughter of the late Lewis L. Hucks and Floy Margaret Gordon Hucks. She was a member of Bethel Baptist Church, where she was former choir member, vice president of the adult Sunday school class, member of the Women's Missionary Union and a volunteer worker at Divine Savior Nursing Home.

Surviving are her husband, James F. "Jack" Sarvis; two sons, Perry L. "Mickey" Parrish Sr. and Ronald W. "Ronnie" Parrish, both of Rock Hill; her daughter, Margaret Bentley of York; her stepdaughter, Annette Riddle of Charlotte; seven grandchildren; six step-grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; 13 step-great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren.

The family will receive friends from 7 to 9 tonight at Bass Funeral Home and at other times at the home of Mickey Parrish, 1435 Allison Circle.

Memorials may be made to the Alzheimer's Association or Bethel Baptist Church building fund.

George Weeks Jr.

INMAN - George W. Weeks Jr., 76, of Golden Age Nursing Home died Sunday, May 9, 1999.

The funeral will be 3 p.m. today at Metropolitan AME Zion Church, with Dr. A.L. Brackett and the Revs. Haywood Boyd, Roger Mason and Charles Shippy officiating. Internment will follow at Oakland Cemetery.

A native of Cherokee County, Mr. Weeks was the son of the late George Weeks Sr. and Mary Sims Weeks. He was the widower of Mrs. Martha Knuckles Weeks. He attended Metropolitan AME Zion Church.

Surviving are his son, Deacon Thomas Weeks Sr. of Gaffney; three daughters, Mildred Dawkins of Temple, Texas, Doris Jean Weeks of York and Sharon Peayson of Gaffney; his brother, Samuel Weeks of Gaffney; his sister, Margaret Montgomery of Gaffney, 17 grandchildren; and 23 great-grandchildren.

Foster Funeral Home of Gaffney is in charge of arrangements.
