Mary Smith

CARLISLE - Mrs. Mary A. Williams Smith, 87, of 1815 Davis Smith Drive died Monday, May 3, 1999, at Tanglewood Healthcare in Ridgeway.

The funeral will be 2 p.m. Saturday at Hassion Hill Baptist Church in Fairfield County, with the Rev. Mark T. Monroe officiating and the Rev. Moses Lightner will give the eulogy. Burial will be at the church cemetery.

A native of Fairfield County, Mrs. Smith was a daughter of the late Frank Williams and Eunice Young Williams. She was the widow of Willie Smith. She was a member of Hassion Hill Baptist Church. She was a homemaker and attended Chester County public schools.

Surviving are five sons, Willie Smith, Frank Smith and Howard Smith, all of Charlotte, David Smith of Carlisle and J.T. Smith of Chester; her daughter, Mary Feaster of Carlisle; her stepmother, Essie Williams of Blair; 22 grandchildren; and 27 great-grandchildren.

The family will receive friends at the home of David and Ola Smith, 1815 Davis Smith Drive in Leeds Community.

The body will be taken to the church at 1 p.m. Saturday.

The body may be viewed from 1 to 9 p.m. today at King's Funeral Home, 135 Cemetery St., Chester.

Evelyn Sowell

KERSHAW - Mrs. Evelyn Catoe Sowell, 81, of 1632 Jones Road died Wednesday, May 5, 1999, at Kershaw County Medical Center.

The funeral will be 11 a.m. Saturday at Mount Pisgah Baptist Church, with the Rev. Clarence Allen officiating. Burial will be at the church cemetery.

A native of Kershaw, Mrs. Sowell was a daughter of the late Braxton Catoe and Wincie West Catoe. She was the widow of James William Sowell. She was retired from Sowell's Grocery and was a member of Mount Pisgah Baptist Church, where she was a member of the Sunday school class and the Women's Missionary Union.

Surviving are her son, Wendell E. Sowell of Kershaw; her daughter, Beth Morgan of Tallahassee, Fla.; her brother, Ray Catoe of West Palm Beach, Fla.; her sister, Ruby Pribble of Camden; four grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.

The family will receive friends from 7 to 9 tonight at Cauthen Funeral Home and at other times at the home.

Memorials may be made to Mount Pisgah Baptist Church, 2162 McBee Highway, Jefferson, SC 29718.

Kathleen Walters

LANCASTER - Mrs. Kathleen Shaw Walters, 75, of Colonial Avenue died Wednesday, May 5, 1999, at home.

The funeral will be 11 a.m. Saturday at Second Baptist Church, with the Rev. Dr. James D. Spencer III officiating. Burial will be at Lancaster Memorial Park.

A native of Kershaw County, Mrs. Walters was a daughter of the late Samuel Hobson Shaw and Carrie Lee Robinson Shaw. She was the widow of Charles A. "Charlie" Walters. She was retired from Springs Industries. She was a member of Second Baptist Church, where she served in the Tweenagers and Women's Missionary Union. She was a tutor at North Elementary School.

Surviving are two sons, Samuel Keith Walters of Austin, Texas, and T. Darrell Walters of Lancaster; her daughter, Susan Elaine W. Dilliard of Rock Hill; three brothers, Hubert Shaw of Providence, R.I., Joe Shaw of Lancaster and Harry Shaw of Columbia; three sisters, Clara Wright of Lancaster, Jean Timmons of Charlotte, and Mary Linder of Eastover; and three grandchildren.

The family will receive friends from 7 to 9 tonight at Mahaffey Funeral Home and at other times at the home of her son, Darrell Walters, 1030 Meadow Drive, Lancaster.

Martin Albrich Jr.

ALLIANCE, Ohio - Mr. Martin Richard Albrich Jr., 88, of 2436 South Freedom Ave. died Friday, May 7, 1999, at Alliance Community Hospital.

The funeral will be 2 p.m. Monday at Cassady-Turkle-Christian Funeral Home, with the Rev. Frank Gross Jr. officiating. Burial will be at Alliance City Cemetery.

Mr. Martin was retired as chief draftsman at Alliance Machinery Co. after 43 years and after 9 years as consultant and project engineer for Kerma Consultants and Engineering Corp., a division of Alliance Machine Co.

He was the widower of Joan Insull Albrich. He was a member of St. Pauls Lutheran Church, the St. Pauls Council, a 50-year member of the B.P.O. Elks No. 467, life member of Saxon Lodge Branch No. 3, Alliance Machine Athletic Association, St. Pauls Club 55, AARP Association and the Society of Mechanical Engineers.

Surviving are his daughter, Sandra Joan Archer of Rock Hill; his sister, Dorothy Brunie of Alliance, Ohio; seven grandchildren; and his great-grandson.

The family will receive friends from 12:30 to 2 p.m. Monday at the Cassaday-Turkle-Christian Funeral Home, 75 S. Union Ave., Alliance, Ohio.

Michael Clamp

HONEA PATH - Michael Fulton Clamp, 54, of 100 Princeton Highway died Thursday, May 6, 1999, at home.

The graveside service will be 3 p.m. today at Eastview Cemetery, with the Rev. Drs. Jimmy Lusk and John C. Taylor Jr. officiating.

A native of Greenwood, he was a son of Thelma Taylor Clamp of Honea Path and the late James Bryson Clamp. He was retired from State Farm Insurance Co. of Rock Hill. He was of the Baptist faith. He was a graduate of Erskine College and was a member of the York Lodge No. 385 AFM. He was a Shriner.

Surviving in addition to his mother are two sons, James Wade Clamp and Parker Clamp of Germantown, Md.; his brother, James Bryson "Jim" Clamp of Greenville; and his sister, Jane Ridgeway of Honea Path.

The family will receive friends from 1:30 to 2:30 p.m. today at Pruitt Funeral Home.

Memorials may be made to the Shriner Hospital for Children, 950 West Faris Road, Greenville, SC 29605 or to the charity of one's choice.

Thomas Gladden

RICHBURG - Mr. Thomas A. "Roe" Gladden, 68, died Wednesday, May 5, 1999, at Providence Heart Institute in Columbia.

The funeral will be 11 a.m. Monday at McEwen Mint Hill Chapel, with the Revs. John Rumford and Fant Steele officiating. Burial will be at Charlotte Memorial Gardens.

Mr. Gladden was a member of Richburg United Methodist Church. He was retired from the U.S. Postal Service in Charlotte after 30 years of service. At that time of his death, he was working as campground host and manager of Cradle of Forest and U.S. Trails and Recreation Management.

Surviving are his wife, Hildred Robinson Gladden; his son, Wylie Gladden of Huntersville; his daughter, Lisa Lemmon of Richburg; his stepson, Robert Tompkins of Marshville, N.C.; four stepdaughters, Debbie Hood of Stallings, N.C., Sue Hearn of Charlotte, Judy Shanley of Mint Hill, N.C., and Chrissy Privette of Matthews, N.C.; two brothers, W.C. Gladden of Richburg and Steven Allen Gladden of Great Falls; two sisters, Julia Alexander and Janie Bell Alexander, both of Charlotte; 14 grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.

The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Sunday at McEwen Mint Hill Chapel.

Johnnie Haire

LANCASTER - Mrs. Johnnie Mae Harris Haire, 64, of 1453 Old Landsford Road died Friday, May 7, 1999, at Springs Memorial Hospital.

The funeral will be 4 p.m. Sunday at Cauthen Funeral Home, Lancaster Chapel, with the Revs. John Rogers and Curtis Cameron officiating. Burial will follow at Lancaster Memorial Park.

A native of Great Falls, Mrs. Haire was the daughter of the late John Thomas and Annie Mae Osborne Harris. She was a member of the First Baptist Church of Great Falls and was co-owner and operator of Mac's Lunch, a landmark on Main Street in Lancaster, for 25 years.

Surviving are her husband, Mr. G. Howard Haire; two daughters, Linda Catone of Lancaster and Brenda Snipes of Tampa, Fla.; two brothers, Sonny Harris of Lancaster and Howard Harris of Great Falls; three sisters, Hilda Ray Johnson of Lancaster, Martha Ann Garrison of Fort Lawn and Brenda Mackery of Great Falls; six grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.

The family will receive friends from 7 to 9 p.m. today at the Cauthen Funeral Home, Lancaster Chapel, and other times at the home, 1453 Old Landsford Road, Lancaster.

Memorials may be made to the Great Falls Rescue Squad, 580 Chester St. Great Falls, SC 29055.
