George Davis

PINEVILLE, N.C. - Mr. George Homer Davis, 90, of 13714 Lancaster Highway died Sunday, May 2, 1999, at his home.

A graveside service will be 11 a.m. Wednesday at Flint Hill Baptist Church Cemetery, with the Rev. Lee Davis officiating.

A native of Gaston County, N.C., Mr. Davis was a son of the late Mr. and Mrs. Robert Lemuel Davis. He was the widower of Lillian Bridges Davis. He was a retired machinist and mechanic, who enjoyed woodworking and handy work for friends and neighbors.

Surviving are three sons, Kenneth C. Davis of Desert Hot Springs, Calif., Robert L. Davis of Charlotte and Allen D. Davis of Indian Land; 10 grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; and three great-great-grandchildren.

The family will receive friends from 7 to 9 tonight at Wolfe Funeral Home.

Betty Rae Jenkins

CLOVER - Mrs. Betty Rae Henry Jenkins, 73, of 101 Catawba St. died Sunday, May 2, 1999, at Gaston Memorial Hospital in Gastonia, N.C.

The funeral will be 4 p.m. Wednesday at Clover ARP Church, with the Rev. Rob Patrick officiating. Burial will be at Woodside Cemetery.

A native of Clover, Mrs. Jenkins was a daughter of the late John Hunter Henry and Jeanette Childers Henry. Mrs. Jenkins was retired from LaFar Industries in Gastonia after 30 years. She was a member of Clover ARP Church, where she was secretary of church literature for many years.

Surviving are her husband, Max B. Jenkins; and her sister, Adelle H. Edmunds of Clover.

The family will receive friends from 7 to 9 tonight at M.L. Ford and Sons Funeral Home and at other times at the home of Adelle Edmunds, 1032 Lawrence Road, Clover.

Memorials may be made to Clover ARP Church, 127 Kings Mountain St., Clover, SC 29710.

Ruth Jernigan

ROCK HILL - Ms. Ruth Ray Jernigan, 83, of 1915 Ebenezer Road died Sunday, May 2, 1999, at White Oak Manor.

A memorial service will be 6:30 p.m. today at Oakland Baptist Church, with the Rev. Dr. Robert Shrum officiating.

A native of Buncombe County, N.C., Ms. Jernigan was a daughter of the late George Henry Ray and Margaret Roland Ray. Ms. Jernigan was a member of Oakland Baptist Church. She was a graduate of Concord College of Athens, W.Va., and a member of Delta Kappa Gamma. She taught at Park Junior High School, Stratton High School and Shady Springs High School in Beckley, W.Va.

Surviving are two sons, Howard M. Jernigan of Memphis, Tenn., and Thomas Jernigan of South Bridge, Mass; two daughters, Carol J. Berger of Cary, N.C., and Leslie J. Cooper of Rock Hill; and six grandchildren.

The family will receive friends from 3 to 6 p.m. today and after the service at the Coopers, 2300 Sparrow Drive, Rock Hill.

Memorials may be made to Park Avenue Day Center, 359 Park Ave., Rock Hill, SC 29730 or to the charity of one's choice.

Clyde Johnson

LANCASTER - Mr. Clyde Johnson of 3155 Johnson Road in the Antioch community died Monday, May 3, 1999, at Springs Memorial Hospital.

Arrangements will be announced by Hartley Funeral Home.

Lois Johnson

CLOVER - Mrs. Lois Orline Whitman Johnson, 56, of 1725 Beamguard Road died Sunday, May 2, 1999, at home.

A graveside service will be 2 p.m. Thursday at Georgetown Baptist Church cemetery in Georgetown, Ga., with the Rev. Clyde Rogers officiating.

A native of Georgetown, Mrs. Johnson was the daughter of the late Darrill D. Whitman and Lois Webb Whitman. She was a bookkeeper for more than 30 years with Winn-Dixie in Jacksonville, Fla., before retiring. She was the widow of Fred A. Johnson.

Surviving are her son, Robert C. Johnson of Bessemer City, N.C.; her daughter, Sheila R. Johnson of Gastonia, N.C.; two sisters, Patricia Clark of San Diego, Calif., and Sara Rogers of Birmingham, Ala.; her grandchild; and three great-grandchildren.

The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at Hardage-Giddens Funeral Home, 6940 Atlantic Blvd., Jacksonville, Fla.

Memorials may be made to the American Heart Association, Piedmont Region, 300 E. Henry St., Suite 101, Spartanburg, SC 29302-2630.

Ora Massey

CHESTER - Mrs. Ora Gist Massey, 97, of 740 Celsey St. died Friday, April 30, 1999, at Chester County Nursing Center.

The funeral will be 3 p.m. Wednesday at Zion Pilgrim Baptist Church, with the Rev. Curtis Washington officiating and the Rev. James Goods assisting. The Rev. Terrence Grooms will give the eulogy. Burial will be at the church cemetery.

A native of Chester County, Mrs. Massey was a daughter of the late General Gist and Easter Wilkes Gist. She was the widow of Arthur Massey. She was a member of Zion Pilgrim Baptist Church. She lived in Charlotte for many years, where she was a member of Union Missionary Baptist Church and was president of the hymn choir, superintendent of Sunday school, president of the deaconess board and Prayer Band No. 2. She attended Mount Moriah Baptist Church after returning to Chester. She attended the public schools of Chester County and was a retired domestic worker.

Surviving are her daughter, Patsy Smith of Spartanburg; her brother, Ben Gist of Spartanburg; her sister, Evelyn Gist of Winston-Salem, N.C.; five grandchildren; a number of great- and great-great-grandchildren; and her caregivers, Glee Crosby of Chester and Willie Mae Farr of Spartanburg.

The family will receive friends at the home of Marion and Glee Crosby, 740 Celsey St.

The body will be taken to the church at 2 p.m. Wednesday.

The body can be viewed from 1 to 9 p.m. today at King's Funeral Home, 135 Cemetery St., Chester.

Russell Padgett Sr.

McCONNELLS - Mr. Russell Dale Padgett Sr., 67, of 1969 Burkin Road died Sunday, May, 2, 1999, at Carolinas Medical Center in Charlotte.

The funeral will be 10 a.m. Wednesday at Abiding Presence Lutheran Church in York, with Pastor Herbert Wood officiating. Burial will be at Grandview Memorial Gardens.

A native of Indiana, Mr. Padgett was a son of the late Thomas Franklin Padgett and Irene Miller Padgett. He was a retired auto worker from Chrysler Corp., where he served 30 years. He was a member of United Auto Workers No. 292 in Indiana. He attended Abiding Presence Lutheran Church and was a member of Mounts Run Baptist Church in Indiana. He raised roses and enjoyed gardening.

Surviving are his wife, Lois Moeller Padgett; two sons, Russell Dale Padgett Jr. of Indianapolis and Martin M. Padgett of McConnells; two daughters, Sue Padgett Kern of Lebanon, Ind., and Jane Padgett Goodpaster of North Vernon, Ind.; his stepson, Christopher Worthy of Kempton, Ind.; his stepdaughter, Shelley McClintock of Indianapolis; four brothers, Thomas Padgett of Martinsville, Ind., James R. Padgett and Timothy Bybee, both of McConnells, and Steven Padgett of Texas; four sisters, Mary P. Beckom of Hemlock, Ind., Linda P. Denhardt of Hobert, Ind., Sharon P. Teuscher of Tepton, Ind., and Marolyn P. Huff of Plainville, Ind.; 10 grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.

The family will receive friends from 7 to 9 tonight at Bratton Funeral Home in York.

Memorials may be made to the American Heart Association, 400 Percival Road, Columbia, SC 29206.

Edgar Pardue

MYRTLE BEACH - Mr. Edgar Allen Pardue, 62, of 513 28th Ave. North died Saturday, May 1, 1999, at Conway Hospital in Conway.

A graveside service will be 11 a.m. today at Chester Memorial Gardens, with the Rev. Will Brown officiating.

A native of Chester, Mr. Pardue was the son of the late Edgar Pardue and Margaret Nell Taylor Pardue. He was a retired staff sergeant for the U.S. Air Force, serving in Vietnam, and was a recipient of the Bronze Star. He attended Chester schools.

Surviving are his wife, Barbara H. Pardue; his brother, David Pardue of Irmo; and two sisters, Rebecca P. Ivie and Kathleen Pardue, both of Chester.

The family will be at the home of Rebecca Ivie, 792 Linden Drive, Chester.

Memorials may be made to Grand Strand Humane Society, P.O. Box 621, Myrtle Beach, SC 29578.
