Ella Vees

ROCK HILL - Mrs. Ella Lobenstein Vees, 94, died Friday, April 23, 1999, at Magnolia Manor.

The funeral will be 2 p.m. Monday at St. Thomas Lutheran Church at 4013 Shamrock Drive in Charlotte, with the Rev. Edward Crotty officiating. Burial will be at Sharon Memorial Park.

A native of Germany, Mrs. Vees was a charter member of St. Thomas Lutheran Church. The widow of Oscar Vees, she came to the United States in 1925 and was active in church, civic and community affairs in New Jersey and Charlotte.

Surviving are her son and daughter-in-law, Manfred R. Vees and Dolores G. Vees of Rock Hill; five grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren.

The family will receive friends from 1 to 2 p.m. Monday at St. Thomas Lutheran Church and at other times at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Manfred R. Vees, 1771 Colony Drive, Rock Hill.

Memorials may be made to St. Thomas Lutheran Church, 4013 Shamrock Drive, Charlotte, NC 28215.

Lowe-DeBord Funeral Home in Charlotte is in charge.

Flossie Brown

ROCK HILL - Mrs. Flossie Jeter Brown, formerly of Rock Hill, died Monday, April 19, 1999, at Presbyterian Hospital in Charlotte.

The funeral will be 1 p.m. Friday at New Mount Olivet AME Zion Church, with the Rev. Sherman McBeth officiating and the Rev. Z. B. Wells assisting. Burial will be at Barber Memorial Cemetery.

Mrs. Brown was a native of Union County. She was a member of New Mount Olivet AME Zion Church for more than 50 years.

The body will be placed in the church at noon Friday. The family will receive friends at 12:30 p.m.

Edna Burgess

ROCK HILL - Mrs. Edna Bruton Burgess, 41, of Lesslie died Monday, April 19, 1999, at Mercy Hospital South in Pineville, N.C.

The funeral will be 11 a.m. Thursday at Eastside Baptist Church, with the Revs. Jerry Devinney and Jimmy Holley officiating. Burial will be at Forest Hills Cemetery.

Mrs. Burgess was a native of York County and was a daughter of Mary Bruton Weckesser and the late Billie G. Bruton Sr. She was a member of Eastside Baptist Church and was employed at Spencer Gifts Inc. in Pineville, N.C., as a warehouse supervisor.

Surviving in addition to her mother are her husband, Charlie R. Burgess Jr. of the home; two sons, Chris Burgess of Rock Hill and Jason Burgess of the home; two brothers, Thomas D. Bruton of York and Richard D. Bruton of Rock Hill; her sister, Sondra B. Medford of Rock Hill; her grandfather, Lester T. King of Rock Hill; and her grandchild.

The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 tonight at Greene Funeral Home and at other times at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Charlie Burgess Sr., 1956 Mount Holly Road.

Memorials may be made to Eastside Baptist Church building fund, 318 N. Jones St., Rock Hill, SC 29730.

Kay Cairnes

LANCASTER - Mrs. Kay Frances Merritt Cairnes, 46, of 1205 University Drive died Monday, April 19, 1999, at her home.

The funeral will be 11 a.m. today at Mahaffey Funeral Home, with Dr. James D. Spencer III officiating. Burial will be at Lancaster Memorial Park.

Mrs. Cairnes was born in Lancaster County and was the daughter of Wilhelmina Lloyd Merritt and the late Kay Dee Merritt. She was an employee of Springs Industries customer service center and a member of Second Baptist Church.

Surviving in addition to her mother are two sons, Ronnie William Cairnes Jr. of Heath Springs and Charles "Chuck" Allen Cairnes of Lancaster; and her grandchild.

Memorials may be made to Second Baptist Church, 1426 Great Falls Highway, Lancaster, SC 29720.

Joanna Good

CLOVER - Mrs. Joanna Jones Good, 64, of 415 Cedar Grove Road died Tuesday, April 20, 1999, at Piedmont Medical Center in Rock Hill.

The funeral will be 4 p.m. Friday at Bratton Funeral Home in York.

Further arrangements will be announced by Bratton Funeral Home.

Marion Hamilton

LEXINGTON - Mrs. Marion Hinson Hamilton, 88, of the Presbyterian Home of South Carolina in Lexington, formerly of Lancaster, died Monday, April 19, 1999, at Lexington Medical Center.

A memorial service will be 3 p.m. today at First Presbyterian Church, with the Revs. Ernest Thompson, Samuel N. Thomas and Dr. Matthew Covington officiating.

A native of Lancaster County, Mrs. Hamilton was a daughter of the late Edgar Julian Hinson and Nannie McCardell Hinson. She was a graduate of Winthrop College, a homemaker and a member of First Presbyterian Church. Mrs. Hamilton was the widow of Andrew Robinson Hamilton.

Surviving are her son, Andrew R. Hamilton Jr. of Hartsville; two daughters, Andrea H. Duncan of Charlotte and Lucy Lewis of Houston; her brother, E. Julian Hinson Jr. of Columbia; two sisters, Helen H. Robertson of Charlotte and Nancy H. Cox of Darlington; and eight grandchildren.

The family will receive friends immediately after the service.

Memorials may be made to First Presbyterian Church, P.O. Box 990, Lancaster, SC 29721 or to Presbyterian Home of South Carolina, 700 Davega Drive, Lexington, SC 29073.

Walter Helms

Rock Hill - Mr. Walter J. Helms of Rock Hill died Monday, April 19, 1999, at the Veterans Hospital in Salisbury, N.C.

A graveside service will be 4 p.m. today at Lakeland Memorial Park in Monroe, N.C.

Mr. Helms was born in Union County, N.C., and was a veteran of the Korean War.

Surviving are his wife, Ruth H. Helms, of the home; his son, Leon Helms of Columbia; his daughter, Lynn H. Patterson of Rock Hill; and his granddaughter, Carrie Patterson of Rock Hill.

The family will receive friends from 2:30 p.m. until the service at McEwen Funeral Home in Monroe, N.C.

Memorials may be made to the N.C. State Veterans Home Trust Fund, c/o N.C. Division of Veteran Affairs, Albemarle Building 1065, 325 N. Salisbury St., Raleigh, NC 27603.

Joy Hudson

CHESTER - Mrs. Joy Louise Hudson, 66, of 108 Branch St. died Monday, April 19, 1999, at her home.

The funeral will be 2:30 p.m. Thursday at Barron Funeral, with the Rev. Thomas Morrison officiating. Burial will be at Evergreen Cemetery.

Born in Charlotte, Mrs. Hudson was the daughter of Victor B. Lockey and Valarie Lockey. A retired registered nurse with Chester County Hospital, Mrs. Hudson was a graduate of Harding High School, Belmont Abbey Community College and Mercy Nursing School.

She was the widow of Joseph B. Hudson Jr.

Surviving are two sons, Joe Hudson and Vick Hudson, both of Chester; her daughter, Sally Hudson of Chester; two brothers, Gene Lockey of Greenville and Jimmy Lockey of Mobile, Ala.; two sisters, Joann Fowler and Patsy Wylie, both of Charlotte; and two grandchildren.

The family will receive friends from 7 to 9 tonight at Barron Funeral Home.
