Janie Ervin

ROCK HILL - Miss Janie Lee Ervin, 56, of 1119 Hale St. died Tuesday, April 13, 1999, at Piedmont Medical Center.

The funeral will be 3:30 p.m. Sunday at Sword of the Spirit Church, with the Rev. Robert Dacus officiating and the Revs. Willie Starr, J.E. Boulware and Pastor Terry Wiley assisting. Burial will be at Barber Memorial Cemetery.

Miss Ervin was a graduate of Emmett Scott High School. She was a homemaker and a member of Sword of the Spirit Church.

Surviving are her mother, Frances Roseborough of Rock Hill; her son, Dennis B. Ervin of Rock Hill; three daughters, Vanessa E. Davis, Patricia E. Dacus and Michelle Ervin, all of Rock Hill; three sisters, Joyce Whitlock of Florence, Ernestine Durham and Joan Street, both of Rock Hill; four brothers, Michael Durham, John Durham, Terry Durham and Robert Roseborough, all of Rock Hill; 10 grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.

The body may viewed from 3 to 6 p.m. Saturday at Robinson Funeral Home

The family will be at 821 Midville St., Rock Hill.

The body will placed in the church at 1:30 p.m. Sunday.

Ola Mae Ervin

CHARLOTTE - Mrs. Ola Mae Ervin, 85, of 2511 Lumina Ave. died Monday, April 12, 1999, at Carolinas Medical Center.

The funeral will be 2 p.m. Sunday at Jerusalem Baptist Church in Fort Mill, with the Rev. M.N. Baxter officiating. Burial will be at Greenhill Cemetery in Fort Mill.

Surviving are her son, Jesse Lee Ervin of Fort Mill; four daughters, Corine Miller of Fort Mill, Jo Alice Partlow and Johnnie Mae Goode, both of Charlotte, and Essie Reese of Buffalo, N.Y.

The family will receive friends from 7 to 9 p.m. Saturday at Beasley Funeral Home in Charlotte.

The body will be placed in the church at 1 p.m. Sunday.

Arthur Hames

SHARON - Mr. Arthur Hames, 80, of 4489 George Bridge Road died Wednesday, April 14, 1999, at Wallace Thompson Hospital in Union.

The funeral will be 2 p.m. Saturday at Mount Hopewell Baptist Church, with the Rev. Raymond Davis officiating. Burial will be at the church cemetery.

A native of York County, Mr. Hames was a son of the late Arthur "Doc" Hames and Pinkie Smarr Hames. He was a member of the Crossroads Baptist Church and was retired from Lockhart Mill. He was a member of the AP&B Society.

Surviving are his wife, Etta Thompson Hames; four daughters, Flora Ann Hames Ross of Westerville, Ohio, Lois Yvonne Hames Meadow of Union, Margaret Hames-Smith of the home and Aileen Hames Smith of Chester; two granddaughters whom he reared, Shontee Tricia Ross Tiller of Westerville, Ohio, and Kimberly Margaret Smith of the home; four sisters, Ella Robbins of Sharon, Pinkie Bell Jeter of Chester, and Mary Elizabeth Hames and Maggie Jane Crawford, both of Charlotte; three additional grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.

The family will receive friends at home.

The body may be viewed from 4 to 7 p.m. Saturday at Wright Funeral Home in York.

The body will be placed in the church at 1 p.m. Saturday.

James Hinson

KERSHAW - Mr. James Howard Hinson, 79, of 6175 Flat Creek Road died Tuesday, April 13, 1999, at Springs Memorial Hospital.

The funeral will be 4 p.m. today at Pleasant Plain Baptist Church, with the Rev. James Reppart officiating. Burial will be at the church cemetery.

A native of Kershaw, Mr. Hinson was the son of the late James Nelson Hinson and Rebecca McManus Hinson. He was retired from Springs Industries' preparation department. He was a member of Pleasant Plain Baptist Church, where he was a deacon and former Sunday school teacher. He was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II.

Surviving are his wife, Mae Doris McManus Hinson; three sons, Jimmy Hinson, Daryl Hinson, both of Kershaw, and Terry Hinson of Ruby; his brother, Bennie Hinson of Kershaw; his sister, Glennie Horton of Kershaw; seven grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.

Memorials may be made to Pleasant Plain Baptist Church, 3795 Pleasant Plain Road, Kershaw, SC 29067.

Cauthen Funeral Home is in charge.

John Holland

YORK - The Rev. John Lawrence Holland, 81, of 8184 Park Place Road died Wednesday, April 14, 1999.

The graveside service will be 11 a.m. Saturday at Forest Lawn Memorial Park in Anderson.

A native of Anderson, the Rev. Holland was the son of the late Walter Holland and May Ellrod Holland. He was a retired Church of God minister and served for 37 1/2 years. He was a member of Mount Airy Church of God in Mount Airy, N.C.

Surviving are his wife, Helen Elizabeth Chapman Holland; his daughter, Karen Renae Goudelock of Mount Airy, N.C.; his sister, Bernice Kay of Williamston; and two grandchildren.

The family is at the home of Karen Renae Goudelock, 216 E. Devon Drive, Mount Airy, N.C., and will receive friends from 7 to 9 p.m. Friday at Gray Mortuary in Pelzer.

Dorothy Kelly

CHARLOTTE - Mrs. Dorothy Ann Shumway Kelly, 82, of 14609 Sorrel Court died Tuesday, April 13, 1999, at Piedmont Medical Center in Rock Hill.

Graveside service will be 10 a.m. April 23 at Pinelawn National Cemetery at Long Island, N.Y.

A native of Brooklyn, N.Y., Mrs. Kelly was the widow of Richard J. Kelly. She was a homemaker.

Surviving are two daughters, Patricia Weil of Fort Mill and Gail Otto of Charlotte; her son, Richard J. Kelly Jr. of Floral Park, N.Y.; nine grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.

Memorials may be made to the American Cancer Society, 500 E. Morehead St., Suite 211, Charlotte, N.C.

Wolfe Funeral Home in Fort Mill is in charge.

Willie Kennedy

ROCK HILL - Mrs. Willie Mae Sanders Kennedy of 321 Barnes St. died Wednesday, April 14, 1999, at Piedmont Medical Center.

The funeral will be 2 p.m. Sunday at Robinson Funeral Home, with the Rev. George Herring officiating and the Revs. Billy Wilson and Ronal King assisting. Burial will be at Grandview Memorial Park.

Mrs. Kennedy was a native of York County. She was a member of Mount Joy Holiness Church, where she was a missionary and assistant pastor. She attended the York County public schools.

Surviving are two daughters, Deniece Kennedy of Rock Hill and Julia Mae Kennedy of Buffalo, N.Y.; her son, John B. Cohn of Winston-Salem, N.C.; her niece whom she reared, Gladys Foster of Yanceyville, N.C.; seven grandchildren and 15 great-grandchildren.

The body may be viewed from 4 to 6 p.m. Saturday at Robinson Funeral Home.

Louise Lewis

NORTH AUGUSTA - Mrs. Louise Meeks Lewis, formerly of York, died Tuesday, April 13, 1999, at the home of James M. and Joyce E. Lewis in North Augusta.

Rosary will be said at 7 tonight at Divine Saviour Catholic Church in York. The funeral Mass will be 11 a.m. Friday at Divine Saviour Catholic Church, with the Revs. Edward P. McDevitt, John Giuliani and Sandy McDonald officiating. Burial will be at Rose Hill Cemetery in York.

A native of New Castle, Ind., Mrs. Lewis was the daughter of the late Slone Felix Meeks and Margaret Ryan Meeks. She was the widow of Bernard L. Lewis Sr. She was a founding member of Divine Saviour Catholic Church, where she was a member of the Women's Guild and a former Sunday school teacher. She was a member of various civic and social organizations.

Surviving are four sons, Bernard Andrew Lewis Jr. of Rock Hill, James M. Lewis of North Augusta, Sgt. Charles Lewis of Arizona and Joseph Gregory Lewis of York; two daughters, Mary L. Schwinn of Chevy Chase, Md., and Marie Ruggieri of Fort Lawn; her sister, Marie Meeks of New Castle; 16 grandchildren; and 10 great-grandchildren.

A memorial mass will be held at a later date at Our Lady of Peace Catholic Church in North Augusta.
