Emmett Lambert

LANCASTER - Mr. Emmett Horace Lambert, 75, of 1987 Lynwood Drive died Sunday, April 11, 1999, at Springs Memorial Hospital.

The funeral will be 11 a.m. today at Mahaffey Funeral Home, with the Rev. Dr. Michael B. Giles officiating. Burial will be at Lancaster Memorial Park.

A native of York County, Mr. Lambert was a son of the late William Perry Lambert and Iva Garris Lambert. He was a retired real estate agent, an Army Air Force veteran of World War II and was a member of Immanuel Baptist Church.

Surviving are his wife, Annie Ruth Hilton Lambert; his daughter, Gaile Giles of Charleston; his brother, Dr. Fred Lambert of Lancaster; two sisters, Kathryn Motsinger of Winston-Salem, N.C., and Ruth Lambert of North Carolina; and his grandchild.

The family will receive friends from 10 to 10:45 a.m. today at Mahaffey Funeral Home.

Memorials may be made to Connie Maxwell Children's Home, P.O. Box 1178, Greenwood, SC 29648.

Isabella McMillan

ALEXANDRIA, Va. - Mrs. Isabella Walker McMillan, 83, died Saturday, April 10, 1999.

A memorial service will be 3 p.m. Wednesday at Falls Church Episcopal Church in Falls Church, Va.

A native of Rock Hill, Mrs. McMillan was a daughter of the late Christopher J. Walker and Margaret Wilson Walker. She was retired from the Justice Department in Washington.

Surviving are her daughter, Marian McMillan Endres of Falls Church; her brother, Christopher J. Walker Jr. of Savannah, Ga.; two sisters, Elizabeth W. Allen of Rock Hill and Frances W. Dickerson of York; and two grandchildren.

Everly Wheatly Funeral Home in Alexandria is in charge.

Bryant McMackin

CLOVER - Mr. Bryant Clay McMackin, 80, of 1160 N. Highway 161 died Sunday, April 11, 1999, at home.

The funeral will be 2 p.m. Wednesday at Oakdale Presbyterian Church, with the Rev. Buckner Malcolm officiating. Burial will be at the church cemetery.

A native of York County, Mr. McMackin was a son of the late Annie McCarter McMackin and Lawson McLean McMackin. He was an Army veteran of World War II. He was retired from the Clover school district and was a farmer.

Surviving are his wife, June Catherine Stowe McMackin; his son, Timothy McMackin of Clover; two daughters, Barbara M. Warlick of Gastonia, N.C., and Judy M. Adams of Clover; his brother, William Floyd McMackin of Clover; his sister, Lois M. Johnson of Clover; four grandchildren; and his great-grandchild.

The family will receive friends from 7 to 9 tonight at M.L. Ford and Sons Funeral Home.

Ruth Nelson

SARASOTA, Fla. - Mrs. Ruth "Dolly" W. Nelson, formerly of Rock Hill, died Friday, April 9, 1999.

A graveside service will be 11 a.m. Wednesday at Elmwood Cemetery in Birmingham.

A longtime resident of Birmingham, Mrs. Nelson was a 1935 graduate of Birmingham-Southern College and a member of Pi Beta Phi. She was a graduate of the Library School of Emory University and was the head librarian of the reference department at Birmingham Public Library for several years. She was a member of the Cathedral Church of the Advent.

Surviving are her son, William C. Nelson of Sarasota, Fla.; and three grandchildren, among whom is David Nelson Lyon of Rock Hill.

The family will receive friends from 5 to 8 tonight at Ridout's Elmwood Chapel in Birmingham.

Douglas Scott

ROCK HILL - Mr. Douglas T. Scott, 74, of 1950 Eden Terrace died Monday, April 12, 1999, at home.

Arrangements will be announced by Greene Funeral Home.

Lilly Smith

BALTIMORE - Mrs. Lilly Simrill Smith, 65, died Sunday, April 11, 1999, at a Baltimore nursing home.

The funeral will be 2 p.m. Thursday at Emmanuel Episcopal Church in Staunton, Va.

A native of York, Mrs. Smith was a daughter of Frank Marion Simrill and Lilly Currell Simrill. She graduated from York High School in 1951 and attended Mary Baldwin College in Stanton. She was awarded the Algernon Sydney Sullivan Award in 1974 by Mary Baldwin College, where her husband was a professor. The award was for her friendly service to students, faculty and their families. She completed her degree there in 1977 and worked for the Stanton welfare agency.

She worked for General Theological Seminary, where her husband was studying to become an Episcopal priest. They later moved to Episcopal parishes in Alexandria, Va., and Baltimore.

Surviving are her husband, Ben Smith; her son, Ben H. Smith III of Atlanta; three daughters, Katherine Tucker Smith of Takoma Park, Md., Sarah Carrington Hutchinson of Richmond, Va., and Lilly Preston Smith of Baltimore; two sisters, Nancy Simrill Landstreet of York and Susan Simrill Manning of Easley; and five grandchildren.

Memorials may be made to the Episcopal Social Ministries, Diocesan Center, 4 E. University Parkway, Baltimore, MD 21218.

Mitchell-Wiedefeld Funeral Home is in charge.

ROCK HILL - Mr. Ronald Lee Beck Sr., 52, of the Lessile area died Tuesday, April 13, 1999, at home.

Arrangements are incomplete and will be announced by Greene Funeral Home.

Kenneth Brady

YORK - Mr. Kenneth Morris Brady, 66, of 3140 Balkan Drive died Tuesday, April 13, 1999, at Duke University Medical Center in Durham, N.C.

Arrangements will be announced by Bratton Funeral Home in York.

Mary Branham

CAMDEN - Mrs. Mary Beatrice Hearon Branham, 82, of 648 Truesdale Road died Monday, April 12, 1999, at Kershaw County Medical Center.

The funeral will be 3 p.m. today at Refuge Baptist Church, with the Revs. Clarence Dorman and John R. Rumford officiating. Burial will be at the church cemetery.

A native of Camden, Mrs. Branham was a daughter of the late John William Hearon and Mamie McCaskill Hearon. A homemaker, Mrs. Branham was a member of Refuge Baptist Church, where she was a nursery worker for more than 50 years and a member of the Woman's Missionary Union.

Surviving are her husband, Henry B. Branham; her daughter, Patsy Case of Fort Lawn; eight sisters, Mrs. Theo H. Branham of Columbia and Sara Taylor, Linnie H. Rogers, Kathleen H. Hinson, Louise H. Horton, Annie Bell H. Anderson, Grace Frazier and Nellie Hayes, all of Camden; and her grandchild.

Cauthen Funeral Home is in charge.

Charles Carroll

YORK - Mr. Charles Abel Carroll, 72, of 5288 Billy Wilson Road died Tuesday, April 13, 1999, at home.

A memorial service will be 11 a.m. Thursday at Cauthen Funeral Home.

A native of York, he was a son of the late Charlie Curry Carroll and Myrtle Hope Carroll. He was retired from Rock Hill Printing & Finishing Co. and York County and was co-owner of H.B. Carroll Rental Properties.

Surviving are his wife, Hazel Boyd Carroll; two sons, Charles Abel Carroll Jr. of Chester and Robert Stephen Carroll of Rock Hill; and two grandchildren.

The family will receive friends from 7 to 9 tonight at Cauthen Funeral Home and at other times at the home.

Memorials may be made to the American Lung Association, P.O. Box 1609, Columbia, SC 29202.
