Elsie Dobbins

FORT MILL - Mrs. Elsie Hardin Dobbins, 73, of 107 Phil Court died Sunday, Aug. 16, 1998, at Piedmont Medical Center in Rock Hill.

The funeral will be 2 p.m. Wednesday at First Baptist Church, with the Rev. Jeff Bedwell officiating. Burial will be at Unity Cemetery.

Mrs. Dobbins was a homemaker and member of First Baptist Church.

Surviving are her son, Mike Dobbins of Davidson; her daughter, Kathy Pemble of Roswell, Ga.; and three sisters, Evelyn Marshall of Forest City, N.C., Ellen Wells of Cherryville, N.C., and Jean Spurlin of Old Fort, N.C.

The family will receive friends from 7 to 9 tonight at Wolfe Funeral Home.

Memorials may be made to the American Lung Association, 1817 Gadsden St., Columbia, SC 29201.

Lola Flowers

ROCK HILL - Mrs. Lola Ernestine Tant Flowers, 75, of 1521 Greenwood Lane died Sunday, Aug., 16, 1998, at home.

The funeral will be 11 a.m. Wednesday at Rogers Memorial ARP Church, with the Rev. Steve Reynolds officiating. Burial will be at Grandview Memorial Park.

Mrs. Flowers was a homemaker and a member of Rogers Memorial ARP Church, where she was active in the Never Grow Old Club.

Surviving are two sons, Aubrey Dennis Flowers of Rock Hill and Edward Flowers of Seattle; two daughters, Patricia Dianne Flowers of Rock Hill and Debbie F. Ulmer of Lancaster; two brothers, Charles Tant of Rossville, Ga., and N.H. Tant Jr. of Lucama, N.C.; her sister, Peggy T. Barnes of Flat Rock, N.C.; and eight grandchildren.

The family will receive friends from 7 to 8:30 tonight at Greene Funeral Home and at other times at the home.

Memorials may be made to Rogers Memorial ARP Church, 1820 Eden Terrace, Rock Hill, SC 29730.

James Gaskin

WESTVILLE - Mr. James Otis Gaskin, 86, of 3071 Kershaw Highway died Monday, Aug. 17, 1998, at his home.

The funeral will be 11 a.m. Wednesday at Bethany Baptist Church, with the Rev. Robert Rivers officiating and the Rev. Jerry Sosebee assisting. Burial with Masonic Rites will be at the church cemetery.

Mr. Gaskin was retired from Springs Industries as an engineering superintendent. He was a member of Bethany Baptist Church, where he was a member of the Douglas Smith Sunday school class and taught Sunday school for 25 years. A former chairman of the board of deacons, Mr. Gaskins designed the sanctuary for the present church and was church treasurer for 16 years.

He was a member and past Master of the Flat Rock Masonic Lodge 178 and served as past district deputy, Grand Master and Thrice/Illustrious Master. He was past patron of the Kershaw Chapter 94 Order of the Eastern Star and held several chapter appointments. He was a Navy veteran and served in the Pacific during World War II as a chief machinist.

Surviving are his wife, Melverda Oxner Gaskin; his son, Ryan Otis Gaskin of Redwood City, Calif.; his daughter, Olivia G. Williams of Rock Hill; his sister, Sara G. Truesdale of Camden; and three grandchildren.

The family will receive friends from 7 to 9 tonight at Cauthen Funeral Home and at other times at the home.

Samantha Jones

ROCK HILL - Ms. Samantha Francina Jones, 27, of 327 Locust St. died Wednesday, Aug. 12, 1998, at Catawba Memorial Hospital in Hickory, N.C.

The funeral will be 2 p.m. today at First Calvary Baptist Church, with the Rev. L.L. Hancock officiating. The Rev. Mary Alston will deliver the eulogy, and the Revs. Charles Cousar, Hattie Foster and J. E. Johnson will assist. Burial will be at Barber Memorial Cemetery.

Ms. Jones graduated from Rock Hill High School in 1989 and was on the track team and in the U.S. Air Force ROTC. She was listed in Who's Who in America in 1985-86. She received a bachelor of arts degree from Benedict College in Columbia in 1997.

She was formerly employed at West Marina as a lead person. She was also a member of First Calvary Baptist Church, where she served on the Junior Usher Board and the Youth Choir.

Surviving are her father, Sammie Lee Jones of Rock Hill; her mother and stepfather, Frances and Nathan Cherry of Rock Hill; four brothers, Darren Jones, William Jones, Aaron Ervin and Jerroa Graham, all of Rock Hill; four sisters, Tracy Jones and LaWanda Jones, both of Rock Hill, Shanta McClurkin of York and Tanisha Cherry of Union; her paternal grandmother, Mrs. Mildred Jones of Rock Hill; and her maternal grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. Dennis Gladney of Chester and Mr. and Mrs. J. C. Cherry of Edgemoor.

The family will receive friends at the home. The body will be placed in the church at noon today.

Parker Funeral Home is in charge.

Mary McKeown

LANCASTER - Mrs. Mary Lee Geddings McKeown, 66, of 2949 Great Falls Highway died Monday, Aug. 17, 1998, at Mercy Hospital in Charlotte.

The funeral will be 2 p.m. Wednesday at Bethel Baptist Church, with the Revs. Marion Dry and Harold Baker officiating. Burial will be at Lancaster Memorial Park.

Mrs. McKeown was employed by Springs Industries and a member of Bethel Baptist Church. She was the widow of F.W. "Jimbo" McKeown.

Surviving are two daughters, Frankie Sistare and Sandra Gaskin, both of Lancaster; her brother, Henry Geddings of Sumter; three sisters, Eunice Lackey of Manning, Eva Bradshaw of Paxville and Vivian Bradham of Columbia; three grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.

The family will receive friends from 7 to 8:30 tonight at Cauthen Funeral Home.

Memorials may be made to Bethel Baptist Church, 3149 Great Falls Highway, Lancaster, SC 29720.

Richard Mobley Jr.

WAXHAW, N.C. - The Rev. Richard Mobley Jr., 60, of Waxhaw died Friday, Aug. 14, 1998, at Union Regional Medical Center.

The funeral will be 3 p.m. today at Steel Hill AME Zion Church in Lancaster. Burial will be 11 a.m. Wednesday at St. Phillip's Baptist Church in Chester.

A native of Chester County, the Rev. Mobley was minister of True Witness Gospel Church in Waxhaw.

Surviving are his wife, Annie Tillman Mobley; his son, Samuel Mobley of Waxhaw; his daughter, Meka Mobley of Waxhaw; his brother, James Mobley of Richburg; his sister, Mattie Bell Larmonie of Summit, N.J.; and two grandchildren.

The family will receive friends from 2 to 3 p.m. today at the church.

Grier Funeral Service of Monroe, N.C., is in charge.

Annie Pruette

GREENWOOD - Miss Annie Elizabeth Pruette, 24, of 613 Brooklane Drive, formerly of York, died Sunday, Aug. 16, 1998, at Self Memorial Hospital.

The funeral will be 3 p.m. Wednesday at Tirzah ARP Church in York, with the Revs. Barry Eller and Steve Reynolds officiating. Burial will be at the church cemetery.

Miss Pruette lived in the Beth Shiloh Community in York until 1992. She moved to Greenwood to live with her caregiver, Brenda Tessener, after the death of her mother. She graduated from Emerald High School and was a member of Tirzah ARP Church. She was employed with Emerald Center in Greenwood.

Surviving are her father, Cecil L. Pruette of York; her brother, William Michael Pruette of Charlotte; her maternal grandparents, Ed L. and Grace M. McClain of Rock Hill; and her maternal grandparents, John "Ikey" and Nonie Robinson of Rock Hill.

The family will receive friends from 5 to 7 p.m. today at Greene Funeral Home.

T. Stephen Whitesides

NEW ORLEANS, La. - Mr. Thomas Stephen "Steve" Whitesides, 44, of 4731 Constance St., formerly of Rock Hill, died Sunday, Aug. 16, 1998, at home.

A memorial service will be 4 p.m. Wednesday at Northside Baptist Church. Burial will be 3:30 p.m. Wednesday at Grandview Memorial Park.

Mr. Whitesides was a 1972 graduate of Rock Hill High School and a former member of Northside Baptist Church.

Surviving are his daughter, Kristin E. Sprinkle of Rock Hill; two sons, Stephen Andrew Whitesides and Geffrey Whitesides, both of Conway; his mother, Louise M. Whitesides of Rock Hill; his paternal grandfather, Horton B. Whitesides of Rock Hill; his maternal grandmother, Julia Moon of Rock Hill; two grandchildren; and his companion, Phillip David Vipperman of New Orleans.

The family will receive friends from 6 to 7:30 tonight at Greene Funeral Home and at other times at the home of his mother, Louise M. Whitesides, 1104 Westover Circle, Rock Hill.
