Daisy Colbert

GREAT FALLS - Mrs. Daisy Manning Colbert, 86, of 90 Chester Ave. died Sunday, April 11, 1999, at Springs Memorial Hospital in Lancaster.

The funeral will be 2 p.m. Thursday at Fairview AME Zion Church, with the Rev. E. Jeter officiating. Burial will be at the church cemetery.

Mrs. Colbert was a member of Mount Zion Baptist Church in Great Falls. She was the widow of Hazel Colbert Sr.

Surviving are two sons, Hazel Colbert Jr. of the home and Mack Davis Colbert of Charlotte; two brothers, Elliott Manning of Great Falls and Ernest Moore of Baltimore; four grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren.

The family will receive friends from 7 to 8 tonight at Washington Funeral Home in Great Falls.

The body will be placed in the church at 1 p.m. Thursday.

Mark Collins

ROCK HILL - Mr. Mark Edward Collins, 22, of 712 Summerwood Circle died Saturday, April 10, 1999, in New Orleans.

A memorial service will be 11 a.m. today at St. Anne Catholic Church, with Father John Giuliani officiating. Burial will be private.

He was a senior at Tulane University and was a member of the Naval ROTC. He was salutatorian of the class of 1995 at Northwestern High School where he participated in tennis, basketball and cross country.

Surviving are his parents, Trudy and Dennis Collins; his brother, Greg Collins of Rock Hill; his paternal grandmother, Margaret Collins of Hodge, La.; and his maternal grandparents, Col. and Mrs. R.C. McDonough of Washington, N.C.

Memorials may be made to St. Anne Catholic School, 1698 Bird St., Rock Hill, SC 29730 or to the YMCA, 402 Charlotte Ave., Rock Hill, SC 29730.

Greene Funeral Home is in charge.

Gertrude DeLoach

ROCK HILL - Miss Gertrude "Gertie" DeLoach, 83, of 343 Kuykendal St. died Tuesday, April 13, 1999, at Piedmont Medical Center.

The funeral will be 2 p.m. Thursday at Greene Funeral Home, with the Rev. Bruce Wyatt officiating. Burial will be at Grandview Memorial Park.

A native of Augusta, Ga., Miss DeLoach was a daughter of Jack Marion DeLoach and Ida Phillips DeLoach. She was a waitress at Woolworth's and Eckerd's stores in Columbia until her retirement and move to Rock Hill in 1981. She was a Baptist and supported her church.

Surviving are a number of nieces and nephews, including Larry Johnson and Marilyn L. Coley, both of Rock Hill, who were her caregivers.

The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 tonight at Greene Funeral Home and at other times at home.

Memorials may be made to Calvary Baptist Church, 830 N. Jones Ave., Rock Hill, SC 29730.

Lila Dixon

CHARLOTTE - Mrs. Lila Thompson Dixon, 67, of 212 Sylvania Ave., formerly of Chester, died Saturday, April 10, 1999, at Carolinas Medical Center.

The funeral will be 3 p.m. Thursday at New Hope Missionary Baptist Church, 1303 Hawthorne Lane, Charlotte, with the Rev. Bobby Houze officiating and the Rev. B.R. Moore assisting. Burial will be at Sharon Memorial Park.

Mrs. Dixon was a native of Chester County. She retired from Charlotte-Mecklenburg school system as custodian. She was the neighborhood captain of Lockwood Haven Community. She was a member of New Hope Baptist Church, where she was an usher, member of the missionary board, president of the deaconess board and member of the hymn choir. She was the widow of Aaron Dixon.

Surviving are three daughters, Margaret Wright, Annie Ruth Thompson and Diane Blount, all of Charlotte; three brothers, Tess Thompson, Wylie Thompson and J.B. Thompson, all of Chester; two sisters, Maglene Dickerson of Rock Hill and Alberta Stevenson of Charlotte; four grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.

The family will receive friends from 7 to 8 tonight at New Hope Missionary Baptist Church in Charlotte.

The body will be placed in the church at 2 p.m. Thursday.

King Funeral Home in Charlotte is in charge, and King's Funeral Home, 135 Cemetery St., Chester, is in charge of local arrangements.

Doris Donatelli

LEXINGTON - Mrs. Doris McCormick Donatelli, 90, of Lexington died Saturday, April 10, 1999.

The funeral will be 11 a.m. Thursday at Lexington Presbyterian Church, with the Rev. David Sinclair officiating. Burial will be at Bush River Memorial Gardens.

A native of San Jose, Calif., Mrs. Donatelli was a daughter of the late James McCormick and Margaret Nolan McCormick and was the widow of Victor E. Donatelli. She attended Lexington Presbyterian Church.

Surviving are her son, Bruce Donatelli of Lexington; her daughter, Sheila Bradford of Katy, Texas; six grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.

The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 tonight at Caughman-Harman Funeral Home, Lexington Chapel.

Memorials may be made to Lexington Presbyterian Church.

Pearson Ewart

CLOVER - Mr. Pearson Monroe Ewart, 76, of 2235 Templeton Road died Monday, April 12, 1999, at home.

A graveside service will be 3 p.m. Thursday at Westview Gardens in Bessemer City, N.C.

A native of Haywood County, N.C., Mr. Ewart was a son of the late Robert Ewart and Emma Jenkins Ewart and was the widower of Gladys Melton Ewart. He was a farmer and construction worker. He was a member of the Merchant Marines during World War II, drove a logging truck for Lunsford Lumber Co. and was a former member of Bradley Street Holiness Church in Gastonia, N.C.

Surviving are two sons, Junior Monroe Ewart and Bobby Ewart, both of Gastonia; his daughter, Carolyn Postell of Dallas, N.C.; his brother, Cleve Ewart of Clyde, N.C.; his special friend, Cora Mae Guest Deaver of the home; 15 grandchildren; 25 great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren.

The family will receive friends from 1 to 2:45 p.m. Thursday at Sisk-Butler Funeral Home in Bessemer City, N.C.

Calvin Fortner

CHESTER - Mr. Calvin Edward Fortner, 70, of 547 Second St. died Tuesday, April 13, 1999, at Chester County Hospital.

The funeral will be 4 p.m. Thursday at Saluda Street Church of God, with the Rev. Dennis E. Reid officiating and the Rev. Roger Roof assisting. Burial will be at Chester Memorial Gardens.

A native of Chester, Mr. Fortner was a son of the late Clarence Fortner and Irene Binnis Fortner. He was a member of the Saluda Street Church of God and was retired from Springs Industries. He was a member of the Fortner Family Singers.

Surviving are his wife, Dorothy Board Fortner; two daughters, Mrs. Wayne H. Long Jr. of Selins Grove, Pa., and Terri Fortner of Chester; his sister, Gaynell Hefner of Chester; and his grandchild.

The family will receive friends from 7 to 9 tonight at Wright's Home for Funerals.

John Hale

GASTONIA, N.C. - Mr. Winton Travis "John" Hale, 85, formerly of Clover, died Monday, April, 12, 1999, at Brian Center.

The funeral will be 2 p.m. Thursday at Clover ARP Church, with the Rev. Rob Patrick officiating. Burial will be at Lakeview Memory Gardens.

A native of Harris City, Ga., Mr. Hale was a son of the late Edward Terrell Hale and Pearl Temple Hale. He was a member of Clover ARP Church.

Surviving are his daughter, Reola Hoyle of Gastonia, N.C.; his brother, James Paul Hale of St. Petersburg, Fla.; two sisters, Myrtice Schulman of Jupiter, Fla., and Myrtle Kester of Thomaston, Ga.; eight grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.

The family will receive friends from 7 to 9 tonight at M.L. Ford and Sons Funeral Home in Clover.
