Elgin Quinn

GASTONIA, N.C. - Mr. Elgin Grey Quinn, 90, of Gastonia died Friday, April 9, 1999, at Kings Mountain Hospital in Kings Mountain, N.C.

The funeral will be 4:30 p.m. Sunday at Trinity United Methodist Church in Gastonia, with the Rev. Michael Newton officiating. Burial will be at Gaston Memorial Park Cemetery.

A native of York County, Mr. Quinn was a son of the late James Andrew Quinn Sr. and Mary Hill Quinn. He was the widower of Alma Jane Biggers Quinn. He was retired from Victory Textiles and was owner and operator of Community Grocery Stores and Gettys Hardware. He was a member of Trinity United Methodist Church for more than 65 years, where he served as deacon and held other positions with the church.

Surviving are his daughter, Florence Geneva Gettys of Gastonia; two sisters, Mary Elizabeth Q. Brandon of York and Martha Sue Q. Stewart of Clover; two grandchildren and his great-grandchild.

The family will receive friends after the service.

Ward Funeral Home in Gastonia, N.C., is in charge.

Fannie Rogers

CHESTER - Mrs. Fannie Ree Brown Rogers, 64, of 2625 Ashford Road died Thursday, April 8, 1999, at Chester County Hospital.

The funeral will be 2 p.m. Sunday at Mount Pilgrim Baptist Church in Fairfield County, with the Rev. T.G. Greene officiating. Burial will be at the church cemetery.

Mrs. Rogers was a native of Fairfield County. She was a homemaker and a member of Mount Pilgrim Baptist Church. She was a member of CB&A Society and attended Fairfield County schools.

Surviving are her husband, David Rogers; four sons, George Rogers, Jesse Rogers, both of Chester, and Leslie Rogers and Ricky Rogers, both of the home; six daughters, Margaret Thompson, Christine Rogers, Mildred Foster, Rosa Coleman, all of Baltimore, Md., Helen Hopkins of Blackstock, and Lisa Rogers of the home; two brothers, Neri Brown Jr. of Chester and Robert S. Brown of Dayton, Ohio; five sisters, Sarah Boulware of Chester, Alice Lindsay of Baltimore, Viola Coleman of Greensboro, N.C., Willa Jones, Rosa Lee Brown, both of Pittsburgh; 24 grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren.

The family will receive friends at home.

Denton Funeral Home is in charge.

Isaiah Sibley

ROCK HILL - Mr. Isaiah "Sib" Sibley, 58, of 924 Saluda St. died Thursday, April 8, 1999, at home.

The funeral will be 3 p.m. Monday at Cedar Grove AME Zion Church, with the Rev. J.T. Hill officiating. Burial will be at the church cemetery.

A native of Chester County, he was a son of the late Frank Sibley and Vera Graves Sibley. He attended Chester County schools.

Surviving are his wife, Laura Boger Sibley; three sons, Isaac Williams, Derrick Sibley and Corey Sibley, all of Rock Hill; two daughters, Pamela Miller and Karen Sibley, both of Rock Hill; six brothers, Frank Sibley Jr., Fred Sibley, George Sibley, Johnny Sibley, Lawrence Sibley and Charles Sibley, all of Rock Hill; three sisters, Sadie Stroud, Beatrice Sibley and Kathy Sibley, all of Rock Hill; and 12 grandchildren.

The family will receive friends at home.

The body may be viewed from 3 to 6 p.m. Sunday and from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. Monday at Parker Funeral Home.

The body will be taken to the church at 2 p.m. Monday.

Willie Mae Simpson

CHESTER - Mrs. Willie Mae Simpson of Chester died Wednesday, April 7, 1999, at Chester County Hospital.

The funeral will be 3 p.m. Sunday at Union Baptist Church, with the Rev. Robert Entzminger officiating. Burial will be at Bethlehem Baptist Cemetery.

A native of Chester County, Mrs. Simpson was a daughter of the late Annie Bell Sanders and Hudson Carter. She joined Zion Pilgrim Baptist Church at an early age and was a member of the Senior Choir, Missionaries, Stars of Bethlehem and Prayer Band. She also was president of the Wednesday night Bible study. She was the widow of Thomas Simpson.

Surviving are two daughters, Loraine Simpson of the home and Crystal Graham of Warrenton, N.C.; four grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.

The family is at the home of her granddaughter, Ruth Simpson, Center Street Apartments No. 14, Chester.

The body may be viewed from 1 to 9 p.m. today at Christopher King's Funeral Home, 703 Old York Road.

The body will be taken to the church at 2 p.m. Sunday.

Wilson Baskin

ROCK HILL - Mr. Wilson Heath "Dub" Baskin, 57, of 4633 Brookgreen Circle died Thursday, April 8, 1999, at Piedmont Medical Center.

A memorial service will be 7 p.m. Monday at Cauthen Funeral Home, Rock Hill chapel.

A native of Rock Hill, Mr. Baskin was the son of the late William Heath and Margie Rollins Baskin. He was a self-employed wallpaper hanger, a member of the Chester Masonic Lodge, a lifetime member of the National Rifle Association and an active volunteer in the community.

Surviving are his wife, Peggy Evans Baskin; his son, Michael Heath Baskin of Rock Hill; two brothers, Andy Wolfe of Edgemoor and William Baskin of Greenville; and his sister, Carole Lawson of Carbondale, Ill.

The family will receive friends after the memorial service.

David Black

CLINTON - Mr. David Leroy Black, 89, formerly of Rock Hill, died Saturday, April 10, 1999, at Laurens County Hospital.

A graveside service will be 11 a.m. today at Ebenezer ARP Church cemetery, with the Rev. Dr. Jeri Parris Perkins and the Revs. Jack Basie and Charles Mitchell officiating.

A resident of Clinton Home, part of Presbyterian Homes of South Carolina, Mr. Black began in the family farming business and worked about 20 years at Rock Hill Printing & Finishing Co. He was a Navy veteran of World War II, serving on the ship F.L. Davis. He was a lifelong member of Ebenezer ARP Church, where he was an elder emeritus and had an honorary life membership from the Presbyterian Women. He was the son of Fred Roy Black and Sadie Fewell Black.

Surviving is his wife of 50 years, Frances Foster Black.

The family will receive friends at the Ebenezer ARP Church parlor at 10:30 a.m. today.

Heather Cobb

CUMMING, Ga. - Miss Heather Camille Cobb, 26, of 8981 Woodsong Trail and a former Winthrop University student, died Saturday, April 10, 1999, at Richland Memorial Hospital in Columbia.

The funeral will be 3 p.m. Monday at the First Baptist Church in Chester, with the Revs. Clay Waldrip and Neal Young officiating. Burial will be at Chester Memorial Gardens.

A native of Charlotte, Miss Cobb attended Winthrop University, where she was a Pi Kappa Alpha little sister. She graduated from high school in Dunwoody, Ga., and also attended the University of Georgia, where she sang in the choir. Miss Cobb was a member of the Episcopal Church of the Holy Spirit in Cumming, where she taught Sunday school and Vacation Bible School. She was also an honorary member of the Kiwanis Club and the Bandits of Dunwoody.

Surviving are her mother and stepfather, Gale and Bill Clarida of Cumming; her father, Charles N. Cobb of Columbia; her brother, Nate Cobb of Rock Hill; three stepbrothers, Troy Clarida, John Clarida and Dave Clarida, all of Atlanta; and her stepsister, Caren C. Monette of Aurora, Ill.

Memorials may be made to the Leukemia Society, S.C. Chapter, 1247 Lake Murray Boulevard, Irmo, SC 29603.

The family will receive friends from 7 to 9 tonight at Barron Funeral Home in Chester.

A memorial service also will be held 3 p.m. Friday at the Episcopal Church of the Holy Spirit in Cumming.

Lila Dixon

CHARLOTTE - Mrs. Lila Thompson Dixon, 67, of 212 Sylvania Ave., formerly of Chester, died Saturday, April 10, 1999, at Carolinas Medical Center.

The funeral arrangements will be announced by King's Funeral Home of Charlotte.
