David Black

CLINTON - Mr. David Leroy Black, 89, formerly of Rock Hill, died Saturday, April 10, 1999, at Laurens County Hospital.

A graveside service will be 11 a.m. today at Ebenezer ARP Church cemetery, with the Rev. Dr. Jeri Parris Perkins and the Revs. Jack Basie and Charles Mitchell officiating.

A resident of Clinton Home, part of Presbyterian Homes of South Carolina, Mr. Black began in the family farming business and worked about 20 years at Rock Hill Printing & Finishing Co. He was a Navy veteran of World War II, serving on the ship F.L. Davis. He was a lifelong member of Ebenezer ARP Church, where he was an elder emeritus and had an honorary life membership from the Presbyterian Women. He was the son of Fred Roy Black and Sadie Fewell Black.

Surviving is his wife of 50 years, Frances Foster Black.

The family will receive friends at the Ebenezer ARP Church parlor at 10:30 a.m. today.

Bass Funeral Home is in charge.

Flossie Mae Gladden

GREAT FALLS - Mrs. Flossie Mae Outlaw Gladden, 77, of 3161 Scott Road died Saturday, April 10, 1999, at home.

The funeral will be 2 p.m. Tuesday at Evangel Temple Assembly of God, with the Rev. Mike Sollers officiating. Burial will be at Greenlawn Cemetery.

A native of York, Mrs. Gladden was the daughter of the late Alec Outlaw and Effie Ellis Outlaw. A homemaker, she was a member of Evangel Temple Assembly of God and attended Great Falls schools. She was the widow of Woodrow W. Gladden.

Surviving are her son Woodrow "Woody" Gladden of Great Falls; two daughters, Willene Goins of Rock Hill and Bobbie Hollis of Great Falls; 10 grandchildren; and 15 great-grandchildren.

Memorials may be made to Evangel Temple Assembly of God, P.O. Box 44, Great Falls, SC 29055.

The family will receive friends from 7 to 9 tonight at Dantzler-Baker Funeral Home.

Herman Huffstetler Sr.

CLOVER - Mr. Herman Cecil Huffstetler Sr., 66, of 416 Cedar Grove Road died Sunday, April 11, 1999, at his home.

The funeral will be 2 p.m. Tuesday at Bright Light Freewill Baptist Church in York, with pastor Phil Haynes officiating. Burial will be at Rose Hill Cemetery in York.

A native of Mecklenburg County, N.C., Mr. Huffstetler was a truck driver for Wales Manufacturing Co. of Gastonia, N.C. He was an Army veteran of the Korean conflict. He was the widower of Doris Blackwelder Huffstetler and was the son of the late Robert Huffstetler and Margaret Huffstetler.

Surviving are four sons, Cecil Huffstetler, Randy Huffstetler and Jamie Huffstetler, all of Clover, and Wayne Huffstetler of Hickory Grove; seven grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.

The family will receive friends from 7 to 9 tonight at Bratton Funeral Home.

Lee Humphries

JEFFERSON - Mr. Lee Humphries, 78, of 5928-A Mount Pisgah Road died Saturday, April 10, 1999, at home.

A graveside service will be 4 p.m. Monday at New Testament Baptist Church cemetery, with the Rev. James Aldridge officiating.

Mr. Humphries was a native of Lancaster County and was a retired farmer.

Surviving are two sisters, Ann Humphries and Sadie Barrett, both of Jefferson.

The family will receive friends from 2 to 3 p.m. Monday at Cauthen Funeral Home and at other times at the home.

Ella Kos

LANCASTER - Mrs. Ella Kos of 388 S. Potter Road died Sunday, April 11, 1999, at Springs Memorial Hospital.

Arrangements are incomplete and will be announced later by Hartley Funeral Home.

Ruth Nelson

SARASOTA, Fla. - Mrs. Ruth "Dolly" W. Nelson, formerly of Rock Hill, died Friday, April 9, 1999.

A graveside service will be 11 a.m. Wednesday at Elmwood Cemetery in Birmingham.

A longtime resident of Birmingham, Mrs. Nelson was a 1935 graduate of Birmingham-Southern College and a member of Pi Beta Phi. She was a graduate of the Library School of Emory University and was the head librarian of the reference department at Birmingham Public Library for several years. She was a member of the Cathedral Church of the Advent.

Surviving are her son, William C. Nelson of Sarasota, Fla.; and three grandchildren, among whom is David Nelson Lyon of Rock Hill.

The family will receive friends from 5 to 8 p.m. tonight at Ridout's Elmwood Chapel.

Eloise Simpson

CHESTER - Ms. Eloise Stroud Simpson, 49, of 810 Hughes Road died Sunday, April 11, 1999, at Piedmont Medical Center in Rock Hill.

Funeral arrangements are incomplete. They will be announced by Gore's Funeral Home in Chester.

Annie West

KERSHAW - Mrs. Annie Crow West, 96, of 6525 Kershaw-Camden Highway died Sunday, April 11, 1999, at her home.

A graveside service will be 11 a.m. Tuesday at Kershaw City Cemetery, with the Rev. Charlie Simmons officiating.

Mrs. West was a native of Kershaw. She was a member of Center Grove Baptist Church, where she was a former Sunday school teacher and former member of the Woman's Missionary Union. She also was a former director of Training Union at the Providence Baptist Church. She was retired from Springs Industries cafeteria. Mrs. West was the widow of Boyd Henry West and was the daughter of the late John Henry Crow and Mittie Falls Crow.

Survivors include her son, Paul H. West of Liberty Hill; three daughters, Reba West Hammond and Betty West Mahaffey, both of Kershaw, and Mary West Byrd, of Lancaster; her sister, Grace C. Holland of Smithfield, N.C.; 11 grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; and three great-great-grandchildren.

Memorials may be made to Center Grove Baptist Church, 236 Scout Cabin Road, Kershaw.

The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 tonight at Cauthen Funeral Home and at other times at the home.
