Blanche Lipford

CHARLOTTE - Mrs. Blanche Lipford, 79, of Charlotte died Saturday, April 3, 1999.

A graveside service will be 3 p.m. today at Chester Memorial Gardens.

Mrs. Lipford was born in Mecklenburg County and was the daughter of the late Claud Bostic and Etta Worthy Bostic.

Surviving are her son, Jerry Statham of Charlotte; her daughter, Sandra Moretz of Lenoir City, Tenn.; three sisters, Doris Baber of Charlotte, Marie Gardner of Mt. Holly, N.C., and Betty McManus of Chester; seven grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren.

The family will receive friends from 2 to 3 p.m. at the cemetery. McEwen Funeral Service, Charlotte Chapel, is in charge.

Julia Murakami

CHARLOTTE - Mrs. Julia Jearlyne "Jerri" Mullis Murakami, 68, of 6229 Pine St. died Sunday, April 4, 1999, at Hospice House in Monroe, N.C.

A graveside service will be 2 p.m. Tuesday at Lancaster Memorial Park, with Dr. W. Jeff Pinkston officiating.

Mrs. Murakami was a native of Lancaster County. She was a retired file clerk and a member of Pleasant Grove Presbyterian Church in Charlotte. She was the daughter of the late John Clinton and Mary Alice Whitley Mullis and was the widow of George H. Murakami.

Surviving are two brothers, Tommy Mullis and Dr. Rommy Mullis, both of Lancaster; and three sisters, Betty Wilson of Valley, Ala., and the Rev. Peggy White and Johnnie Hinson, both of Lancaster.

The family will receive friends from 7 to 9 tonight at Mahaffey Funeral Home in Lancaster and at other times at the home of Tommy Mullis, 2174 Bobwhite Road, Heath Springs.

Memorials may be made to Hospice of Union County Inc., 700 W. Roosevelt Blvd., Monroe, NC 28110.

Nettie Mae Shehane

LANCASTER - Mrs. Nettie Mae Cox Shehane, 72, of 1173 Antioch Circle died Sunday, April 4, 1999, at Springs Memorial Hospital.

The funeral will be at 4:30 p.m. Tuesday at Canaan Freewill Baptist Church, with the Revs. Clayton Cordell and Jack Nunn officiating. Burial will be at Lancaster Memorial Park.

Mrs. Shehane was born in Chesterfield County and was a member of Canaan Freewill Baptist Church. She was retired from Springs Industries. She was the daughter of the late Julian Cox and Alma Tarlton Cox and was the widow of Frank Shehane.

Surviving are two daughters, Dianne Dowdle and Dorothy Crump, both of Lancaster; her sister, Barbara Stroud of Lancaster; four grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.

Memorials may be made to Canaan Freewill Baptist Church Building Fund, 1525 Kershaw Camden Highway., Lancaster, SC 29720.

Lee Stempowicz

ROCK HILL - Mr. Lee Z. Stempowicz, 75, of 1216 Stoney Pointe Drive died Saturday, April 3, 1999, at Piedmont Medical Center.

Funeral arrangements are incomplete. Greene Funeral Home will announce the arrangements.

Nannie Stogner

LANCASTER - Mrs. Nannie Hudson Stogner, 81, of 560 Rocky River Road died Saturday, April 3, 1999, at Springs Memorial Hospital.

The funeral will be 4 p.m. today at Bethlehem Baptist Church, with the Revs. Kenny Coker and Donald Coppedge officiating. Burial will be at the church cemetery.

Mrs. Stogner was retired from Springs Industries and was a member of Bethlehem Baptist Church. She was the daughter of the late John L. Hudson Sr. and Bessie Hinson Hudson.

Surviving are two sons, Gene Stogner and Max Stogner, both of Lancaster; her daughter, Betty Jenkins of Lancaster; three brothers, James Marion "Doc" Hudson, J.L. "Jr." Hudson and Vernon "Buck" Hudson, all of Lancaster; four sisters, Monnie Deason, Betty Rogers and Bessie Lee Carroll, all of Lancaster, and Vivian Cassidy of Catawba; seven grandchildren; and 11 great-grandchildren.

Memorials may be made to Bethlehem Baptist Church, 1841 N. Rocky River Road, Lancaster, SC 29720.

Bunny Sutherland

TEGA CAY - Mrs. "Bunny" Carole Lee Beavers Sutherland, 64, of 3067 Point Clear Drive in Tega Cay, died Saturday, April 3, 1999, at Carolinas Medical Center in Charlotte.

A memorial service will be 1 p.m. Wednesday at Wolfe Funeral Home, with Sister Mary Albert officiating.

A native of Chicago, Mrs. Sutherland was a daughter of the late Max and Rose Holz Beavers. She was a partner with her husband in Sutherland and Associates at Tega Cay. She was a member of the Tega Cay Ladies Bridge Club.

Surviving is her husband, Jack Sutherland.

Memorials may be made to the American Cancer Society, 500 E. Morehead St., Charlotte, NC 28202.

DeWitt Walden

LANCASTER - Mr. DeWitt Walden, 82, of 205 Azalea Road, died Saturday, April 3, 1999, at Springs Memorial Hospital.

The funeral will be 2 p.m. today at Hartley Funeral Home, with the Rev. Kevin Cooley officiating. Burial will be at Lancaster Memorial Park.

Mr. Walden was retired from Springs Industries. He was a 50-year member of the Jackson Masonic Lodge and a member of Grace United Methodist Church. He was the son of the late James Walden and Caroline Walden.

Surviving are his wife, Ella Mae Taylor Walden of the home; two sons, Charles Walden and Allen D. Walden, both of Lancaster; his daughter, Joyce W. Roberts of Greer; his brother, Luther Walden of Marietta, Ga.; his sister, Roxie W. Jordan of Lancaster; six grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren.

Memorials may be made to Grace United Methodist Church, 2217 Airport Road, Lancaster, SC 29720.

Willie Wilkinson

ROCK HILL - Miss Willie Beckham Wilkinson, 82, of 111 Sedgewood Drive died Friday, April 2, 1999, at Piedmont Medical Center.

A graveside service will be 11 a.m. Tuesday at Lincolnton Presbyterian Church cemetery in Lincolnton, Ga., with the Rev. Sarah Juengst officiating.

Miss Wilkinson was a member of the First Presbyterian Church of Atlanta, and she was retired after 37 years at Fulton National Bank in Atlanta. After retirement, she traveled extensively and loved to play bridge. She was a graduate of Wesleyan College in Macon, Ga., and a member of the Daughters of the Confederacy.

Survivors include a niece, Margaret Walker of Rock Hill.

The family will receive friends after the service.

Greene Funeral Home is in charge.
