Glenn Jones

ROCK HILL - Mr. Glenn Jones, 41, of 1831 Dunlap Roddey Road died Wednesday, March 31, 1999, at Carolinas Medical Center in Charlotte.

The family will receive friends from 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. today at Oakdale Baptist Church in Rock Hill. The memorial service will be at 1 p.m. today at the church, with the Rev. Jerry Devinney officiating.

Mr. Jones was a self-employed mechanic. He was a member of Oakdale Baptist Church.

Surviving are two sons, Jason Fain Burn of Hendersonville, N.C., and Jody Jones of Rock Hill; his daughter, Victoria Jones of Rock Hill; his father, George Jones of Newport, N.C.; his mother, Catherine Jones of York; three sisters, Deborah Wheeler of Fair Play, Cynthia Jones of Seneca; and Teresa Jones of Rock Hill; and his fiancee, Sheila Fail of Rock Hill.

Bettie Lawton

YORK - Mrs. Bettie Gonder Lawton, 85, of 42 Ross Canon St. died Thursday, April 1, 1999, at Piedmont Medical Center.

A memorial service will be in Oakland, Md.

A native of Oakland, Md., Mrs. Lawton was the widow of Arthur Lawton Jr.

Surviving are her son, Arthur Lawton III of Rock Hill; and two grandchildren.

Bass Funeral Home is in charge.

Horace Mann

ROCK HILL - Mr. Horace Edward "Bully" Mann, 43, of 1744 Aaron Ave. died Tuesday, March 30, 1999, in Detroit.

The funeral will be 3 p.m. Saturday at New Zion Baptist Church, with the Rev. Robert Brown officiating and the Rev. E.E. Vance assisting. Burial will be at Barber Memorial Cemetery.

Mr. Mann was a member of New Zion Baptist Church. He attended Clinton College. He was an Army veteran. He was a truck driver.

Surviving are two sons, Derrick Hinton and Adrian Wylie, both of Rock Hill; his mother, Arsonia Mann of Rock Hill; his sister, Phyllis Fickling of Bartlett, Tenn.; and two grandchildren.

The family will receive friends from 6 to 7 tonight at Robinson Funeral Home and at other times at the home.

The body will be taken to the church at 1 p.m. Saturday.

Elaine McMurray

ROCK HILL - Mrs. Elaine M. McMurray, 66, of 329 Hutchinson St. died Wednesday, March 31, 1999, at Piedmont Medical Center.

The funeral will be private.

A native of Rock Hill, Mrs. McMurray was the daughter of the late Robert and Mamie Pressley Gordon. A homemaker, she was the widow of Perry McMurray.

Surviving are her son, Ricky Dean McMurray of Turbeville; her daughter, Peggy Crump of Catawba; three grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.

Greene Funeral Home is in charge.

Sadie Moore

CHESTER - Mrs. Sadie Emerson Moore, 83, of Chester County Nursing Center, formally of 126 Jeter St., died Thursday, April 1, 1999.

A candlelight service will be 3 p.m. Monday at Sweet Hope Baptist Church, with the Rev. J.K. Stringfellow officiating. Burial will be at the church cemetery

A Chester County native, Mrs. Moore was a retired nursing assistant at the Chester County Nursing Center. She was a member of Sweet Hope Baptist Church and its missionary society. She also attended Trinity Baptist Church in Brooklyn N.Y., and attended Chester County schools.

Surviving are two sisters, Annie Mae Emerson and Roberta Emerson, both of Chester.

The family will receive friends at the home of her sister, Roberta Emerson, at 129 Jeter St. The body may be viewed at the church at 1:30 p.m. Monday.

Denton Funeral Home in Chester is in charge.

Minnie Stevenson

CHESTER - Mrs. Minnie Jane Reid Stevenson, 79, of 706 Old York Road died Sunday, March 28, 1999, at Chester County Hospital.

The funeral will be 3 p.m. Saturday at Upper Hope Station Baptist Church in Fairfield County, with the Rev. J.E. Coleman officiating and the Revs. G.T. Greene and Moses Lightner assisting. Burial will be at the church cemetery.

Mrs. Stevenson was a native of Fairfield County. She was a homemaker and a member of Upper Hope Station Baptist Church, where she served as a deaconess and a senior choir member and on the Missionary Society, Mother's Board and the AP&B Society. She attended Fairfield County schools.

Surviving are her niece, whom she reared, Bernice Spencer of Charlotte; and several other niece and nephews.

The family will receive friends at home.

The body will be be placed in the church at 1:30 p.m. Saturday.

Denton Funeral Home is in charge.

Ida Weldon

ROCK HILL - Mrs. Ida Weldon of 949 Crawford Road died Wednesday, March 31, 1999, at Palmetto Richland Memorial Hospital.

Arrangements will be announced by Parker Funeral Home.

David Young Sr.

CHESTER - Mr. David "Monkey Man" Young Sr. of 104 Edwards St. died Tuesday, March 30, 1999, at Piedmont Medical Center in Rock Hill.

The funeral will be 3 p.m. Saturday at Second Wilson Baptist Church, with the Rev. Robert Bailey officiating and the Revs. William Bryson and Moses Lightner assisting. Burial will be at the church cemetery.

Mr. Young was educated in the Chester County schools. He joined Zion Pilgrim Baptist Church at an early age. He worked for Southern Coal and Oil.

Surviving are his wife, Shirley Foster Young; four sons, Terry Foster, Charles Young, David Young and Kenneth Young, all of Chester; four daughters, Aris Young, Shirley Chisholm, Mary Foster and Gretta Hopkins, all of Chester; two brothers, Johnny Young and John Woods, both of Chester; his sister, Ruby Small of Chester; 18 grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.

The family will receive friends at home.

The body may be viewed from noon to 8:50 p.m. today and from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday at Christopher King's Funeral Home, 703 Old York Road.

The body will be placed in the church at 2 p.m.
