Philip Sexton
ROCK HILL - Mr. Philip William H. Sexton, 73, of 1423 Bose Ave. died Sunday, Feb. 22, 1998, at Piedmont Medical Center.
The funeral will be 11 a.m. Tuesday at Grace Church of the Nazarene, with the Revs. Jessie Sims and Marion Pressley officiating. Burial will be at Forest Hills Cemetery.
Mr. Sexton was a York County native. He was retired from J.P. Stevens Co. and attended Grace Church of the Nazarene. He was the widower of Madeline F. Sexton.
Surviving are two sons, Danny Sexton and Ricky Sexton, both of Rock Hill; three daughters, Judy Faile, Glynes Beard and Sandy Rinehart, all of Rock Hill; two brothers, Grover Sexton and Richard Sexton, both of Rock Hill; 14 grandchildren; and 18 great-grandchildren.
The family will receive friends at the home.

Mary Sharp
ROCK HILL - Mrs. Mary Elizabeth Sharp, 87, died Saturday, Feb. 21, 1998, at Sonshine Village.
The funeral will be 3 p.m. today at Neely's Creek ARP Church, with the Rev. Bill Fleming officiating. Burial will be at the church cemetery.
Born in York County, Mrs. Sharp was a graduate of Winthrop College. She was an elementary school teacher, homemaker and member of Neely's Creek ARP Church. She was the widow of Henry Drummond Sharp Sr.
Surviving are two sons, Dr. Henry D. Sharp Jr. and James D. Sharp, both of Rock Hill; her sister, Kathleen C. Austin of Charlotte; six grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.
The family will receive friends at the home of James Sharp, 618 Rutledge Ave.
Memorials may be made to Neely's Creek ARP Church, 974 Neely's Creek Road, Rock Hill, SC 29730.

Preston Sowell
KERSHAW - Preston Warren Sowell, the infant son of William Warren "Billy" and Robin Hanna Sowell died Friday, Feb. 20, 1998, at Baptist Medical Center in Columbia.
A graveside service will be 5 p.m. today at Mount Pisgah Baptist Church Cemetery, with the Revs. Jimmy Holley and Dr. Clay Shook officiating.
Surviving in addition to his parents are his paternal grandparents, Wendell and Betty Sue Sowell of Kershaw; and his maternal grandparents, Robert and Candy Hanna of Kershaw.
Cauthen Funeral Home is in charge.

ROCK HILL - Mrs. Amarylis Orebaugh Stallings, 75, of 860 Lucas St. died Sunday, Feb. 22, 1998, at Piedmont Medical Center.
Funeral arrangements will be announced by Cauthen Funeral Home.

ROCK HILL - Mrs. Amarylis Janette Orebaugh Stallings, 75, of 860 Lucas St. died Sunday, Feb. 22, 1998, at Piedmont Medical Center.
The funeral will be 3 p.m. Wednesday at Grace Lutheran Church, with the Rev. E. Ray Mohrmann officiating. Burial will be at Forest Hills Cemetery.
A native of Timberville, Va., Mrs. Stallings was a member of Grace Lutheran Church and was the former owner and operator of Town Center Bakery.
Surviving are three sons, Edward A. Davis of St. Mary's, Ga., Donald Murphy Davis of Richmond, Va., and Bill Davis of Rock Hill; six grandchildren; and her great-grandchild.
The family will receive friends from 2 to 3 p.m. Wednesday at Grace Lutheran Church fellowship hall.
Memorials may be made to the National Lutheran Home, 9701 Veirs Drive, Rockville, MD 30850-3462.

William Sweatt
CATAWBA - Mr. William "Buddy" Dunlap Sweatt, 66, of 1105 Riverlane Road died Sunday, Feb. 22, 1998, at home.
The funeral will be 2 p.m. Wednesday at Oakdale Church of the Nazarene, with the Rev. Bill Watts officiating. Burial will be at Forest Hills Cemetery.
Born in Rock Hill, Mr. Sweatt was retired from Randolph Yarns, where he worked as a machinist and mechanic for more than 22 years. He also worked in the dietary department of Piedmont Medical Center. He was a member of Oakdale Church of the Nazarene.
Surviving are his wife, Zola Lambert Sweatt; his son, Robert Sweatt of Lancaster; three daughters, Cheryl L. Rakestraw, Kathy A. Ramsey and Diane Stover, all of Rock Hill; his sister, Lillie Mae Daniels of Rock Hill; 11 grandchildren ;and two great-grandchildren.
His body will be taken home this afternoon where it will lie in state until noon Wednesday, when it will be taken to the church.
The family will receive friends at the home until 9 p.m. Tuesday.

Mary Walters
ROCK HILL - Mrs. Mary Mitchell Walters, 82, of 1321 Ebinport Road died Saturday, Feb. 21, 1998, at Piedmont Medical Center.
The funeral will be 11 a.m. Wednesday at Park Baptist Church, with the Revs. Eddie Ramsey and Mike Wooten officiating. Burial will be at Forest Hills Cemetery.
Mrs. Walters was a York County native. She was a seamstress for J.C. Penney and a homemaker. She was a member of Park Baptist Church.
Surviving are her husband, Coy D. Walters; three daughters, Jane W. Hough of McConnells, Sarah W. Boros of Orlando, Fla., and Gail W. Clark of Charlotte; three brothers, Oscar "Dick" Mitchell of St. George, and Theodore "Ted" Mitchell and Phillip Mitchell, both of York; four sisters, Rozelle M. Harper of Rock Hill, Jessie M. Smith of York, Louise M. Limpscomb of Harleyville and Edith M. Roberts of Charlotte.
The family will receive friends from 7 to 9 p.m. Tuesday at Bass Funeral Home. Memorials may be made to Park Baptist Church or the charity of one's choice.

Miriam Williford
TUCSON, Ariz. - Miss Miriam Williford, 71, of Tucson, Ariz., died Friday, Feb. 20, 1998, after a brief illness.
A graveside service will be 2 p.m. Wednesday at Gilmore Memorial Park in Julian, N.C. A memorial service will be held in Tucson at a later date.
Miss Williford was a Rock Hill native, and a graduate of Winthrop College. She had a master's from the University of North Carolina and a doctorate from Tulane University. She was a history professor at Winthrop, where she specialized in Latin American history. She authored the definitive book, "Jeremy Bentham in Spanish America." She later became dean of continuing education. In 1979, after working with the Ford Foundation and the BBC in New York City, she was recruited to direct the division of continuing education at the University of Massachusetts. In 1980, Chancellor Henry Koffler named her to direct a working group on economic development, and she also became associate provost for continuing education and public service. She also was active in the National University Continuing Education Association, in which she was president. She retired to her home in Tucson in 1995.
Surviving are her sister, Mary Francis W. Boozer; her niece and her nephew.
The family will receive friends from 7 to 8:30 p.m. Tuesday at Lambeth-Troxler Funeral Home in Greensboro, N.C.

Virgie Bennett
FORT MILL - Mrs. Virgie Jennie Burton Bennett, 75, of 3171 Pike View Road died Wednesday, Jan. 14, 1998, at Mercy South Hospital.
The funeral will be 11 a.m. Friday at Flint Hill Baptist Church, with the Rev. Grady Faulk officiating. Burial will follow at the church cemetery.
Born in Gaston County, N.C., Mrs. Bennett was retired from Package Products and was a member of Stough Memorial Baptist Church. She was a member of the American Legion and the Unity Presbyterian Church's senior citizens group. She was the widow of John Edward Bennett.
Surviving are her son, Johnny Bennett of Fort Mill; her daughter, Linda Stafford of Fort Mill; two brothers, Carl Burton and Edward Burton, both of Kings Mountain, N.C.; three sisters, Laura Houser of Blacksburg, Margaret King and Susan Hooks, both of Kings Mountain, N.C.; four grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.
The family will receive friends from 7 to 9 tonight at Whitesell-Wolfe Funeral Home.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Stough Memorial Baptist Church, 705 Lakeview Drive, Pineville, NC 28134 or to Unity Presbyterian Church nutrition center, 303 Tom Hall St., Fort Mill, SC 29715.

BROOKLYN, N.Y. - The Rev. Harvey Boyd, 61, died Tuesday, Jan. 13, 1998, at a Brooklyn hospital.
Funeral arrangements will be announced by Robinson Funeral Home.

BLACKSTOCK - Mr. Willie M. Cockrell of 3045 Ashford Road died Wednesday, Jan. 14, 1998.
Funeral arrangements will be announced by King's Funeral Home.
