Alleine Belk

LANCASTER - Mrs. Alleine Plyler Belk, 92, of 508 Glenwood Ave. died Saturday, April 3, 1999, at the Lancaster Convalescent Center.

A graveside service will be at 11 a.m. Monday at Lancaster Memorial Park, with Dr. Needham Williamson officiating.

Mrs. Belk was a native of Lancaster County and a graduate of Appalachian State College. She was a former schoolteacher, a homemaker and a member of First United Methodist Church.

Surviving are her son, E. Strait Belk Jr. of Lancaster; her brother, Randolph Plyler of Lancaster; a sister, Bernice Plyler of Lancaster, her grandson and her great-granddaughter.

The family will receive friends from 4 to 6 p.m. today at the home of her son, E. Strait Belk Jr., 914 Community Lane.

Memorials may be made to the First United Methodist Church, 200 W. Gay St., Lancaster, SC 29720.

Thomas Edwards Jr.

YORK - Thomas Edwards Jr., 65, of 401 Brushwood Drive died Thursday, April 1, 1999, at home.

The funeral service will be private.

A native of Plymouth, Pa., Mr. Edwards was a son of the late Thomas Edwards Sr. and Mable Morgan Edwards. He was an U.S. Army veteran of the Korean War and a retired security guard. Mr. Edwards was the widower of Constance Bevlin Edwards.

Surviving are his son, John Howard Edwards of York; his daughter, Michelle Edwards Horne of Maiden, N.C.; and two grandchildren.

Lillie Judge

ROCK HILL - Mrs. Lillie Mae Brown Judge, 67, of 454 Dave Lyle Blvd. died Saturday, April 3, 1999, at Piedmont Medical Center.

Funeral serivc ewil be 2 p.m. Wednesday at Mt. Zion A.M.E. Zion Church No.1 in the Landsford community, with the Rev. Alan Stewart officiating, assisted by Dr. Marian Crawford and the Rev. Al Hayes.

Burial will follow in the church cemetery.

Mrs. Judge was born in Chester County. She was a member of the Mt. Zion A.M.E. Zion Church #1, she was a missionary, deaconess, member of the hymn choir, the kitchen committee staff, a life member of the Women's Home and Overseas Missionary Society. Mrs. Judge was retired from the Lewisville Middle School as a food service attendant.

Survivors are her husband, Willie M. Judge of the home; three sons, Ronald Lee Judge of the home, George W. Judge of Fort Lawn, and Calvin Eugene Judge of Rock Hill; three daughters, Janie M. Judge and Sadie Mae Judge and Alberta Judge, all of Rock Hill; a brother, Willie Brown of Catawba; and three sisters, Dorothy Curry, Ora Lee Barber of Rock Hill and Brenda McDow of Fort Lawn; nine grandchildren and one great-grandchild.

The family wil receive friends from 7 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at the King's Funeral Home, 135 Cemetery Street. The body will be taken to the church at 1 p.m. Wednesday. The body may be viewed from noon until 9 p.m. Tuesday at the King's Funeral Home.

Downes Monroe

CLINTON - Mr. Downes L. Monroe, 94, of the Hopewell Community in Clinton died Friday, April 2, 1999.

The funeral will be 2:30 p.m. Monday in the Hopewell United Methodist Church. Burial will be in the Hopewell Church Cemetery.

Mr. Monroe was a retired photo engraver for Jacobs Press and a farmer. He was a member of Hopewell United Methodist Church, where he was past Treasurer, past Sunday school superintendent and past member of the board of trustees. Mr. Monroe was the widower of Fannie Blakley Monroe.

Surviving are two grandsons; five great-grandchildren, all of Rock Hill; and a son-in-law, Walston A Lynn Jr., of Rock Hill.

The family will receive friends tonight from 6 to 8 at the Gray Funeral Home in Clinton.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Hopewell United Methodist Church Cemetery Fund.

Gray Funeral Home in Clinton is in charge.

Harley Pardue

GASTONIA, N.C. - Harley Shane "Q-Tip" Pardue, 17, of 1427 Rhyne St. died Friday, April 2, 1999, at Gaston Memorial Hospital.

The graveside service will be 11 a.m. Monday at Evergreen Cemetery in Belmont, N.C., with Faith and Jeff Nagel conducting the service.

A native of Mecklenburg County, N.C., Mr. Pardue attended North Gaston High School.

Surviving are his father, Jeffrey Scott Pardue, of Rock Hill; his mother, Pamela Renae Barnette of the home; two brothers, J.C. Walkowiak of the home and Charles Gibson of Rock Hill; his sister, Ashlee Hope Pardue of the home; his maternal grandmother, Janice Y. Silvia of Mooresville, N.C.; his paternal grandmother, Zelda C. Pardue of Rock Hill; and his maternal great-grandmother, Ethel B. Yarborough of Kings Mountain, N.C.

The family will receive friends tonight for 7 to 8:30 at McLean & Son Funeral home in Gastonia.

Memorials may be made to The Sword and the Spirit Christian Center, 2230 Springwater Drive, Gastonia, NC 28056.

Ernest Platts

FORT LAWN - Mr. Ernest Bernard Platts, 68, of 5810 Willowbrook St. died Saturday, April 3, 1999, at Piedmont Medical Center in Rock Hill.

The graveside service will be 2 p.m. Monday at the St. Nicholas Lutheran Church Cemetery in Fairfax, with the Rev. Charles Hattaway officiating.

A native of Fairfax, Mr. Platts is a son of the late Olin Platts and Edna Harter Platts. He attended Fairfax schools, was a member of the S.C. National Guard and owned and operated Big "E" Builders.

Surviving are his daughter, Mary Katherine Carreaux of Charleston; four sons, Ernest B. Platts II of Myrtle Beach, Kenneth Eric Platts of Augusta, Ga., James Russell Platts of Pageland, and Robert Anthony Platts of Columbia; four sisters, Julia Bryant of Sycamore, Wilma Blakney and Virginia Hodge, both of Fairfax, and CaraDelle Kennedy of Buckhead, Ga.; and four grandchildren.

The family will receive friends tonight from 6 to 8 at Dantzler-Baker Funeral Home in Great Falls.

Memorials may be made to the American Cancer Society, 128 Stonemark Land, Columbia, SC 29210.

Margaret Thompson

CHESTER - Mrs. Margaret Worthy Thompson, 80, of Chester died Saturday, April 3, 1999, at Magnolia Manor in Rock Hill.

A graveside service will be at 2 p.m. Monday at Chester Memorial Gardens, with the Rev. Thomas Roper officiating.

Mrs. Thompson was a native of Chester and retired from Springs Industries. She was a member of Woodard Baptist Church. She was the widow of Walter B. Thompson.

Surviving are a son, James N. Thompson of Lancaster; two sisters, Dorothy Presson of Charlotte and Frances Timmerman of Gastonia, N.C.; and her grandson, Kevin Thompson of Chester.

The family will receive friends at the home of Mr. and Mrs. James N. Thompson, 429 Plantation Road, Lancaster.

Memorials may be made to Woodard Baptist Church Building Fund, 1570 Ashford Road, Chester, SC 29706.
