P.J. Reel

SALISBURY, N.C. - Mr. Philemon Jonas "P.J." Reel, 76, of 2670 Long Ferry Road died Monday, March 29, 1999, at Brian Health and Rehabilitation Center.

A graveside service with military rites will be 3 p.m. Wednesday at Rowan Memorial Park, with the Rev. Wayne Moore officiating.

A native of Lincoln County, N.C., he was the son of the late Carl Luther and Lucy Mae Dellinger Neal. He was a former truck driver for Maybell Trucking Co. and a carpenter. He was an Army veteran of World War II.

Surviving are his wife, Myrtle Simpson Null Reel; two sons, Nathan Kenneth Reel of Salisbury and Dennis Clay Reel of Castle Hayne, N.C.; his daughter, Phyllis Whisnant Talton of Wilmington, N.C.; two brothers, Alvin Reel and William Reel, both of Kings Mountain, N.C.; four sisters, Carolyn R. Parker of Lincolnton, N.C., Josephine R. Barnes of Iron Station, N.C., and Glenda Ellis and Mary Deese, both of Rock Hill; two grandchildren; and his great-grandchild.

The family will receive friends from 1 to 2:45 p.m. Wednesday at Summersett Funeral Home.

Jack Roberts

ROCK HILL - Mr. Jack Leroy Roberts, 71, died Thursday, March 25, 1999, at Dorn VA Medical Center in Columbia.

The funeral will be 11 a.m. today at Cauthen Funeral Home, with the Rev. Joe Tysinger officiating. Burial will be at Olivet Presbyterian Church cemetery in McConnells.

A native of York County, Mr. Roberts was the son of the late Thomas Elbert and Etta Owen Roberts. He was a maintenance mechanic for General Tire, a Navy veteran and a member of the American Legion.

Surviving are his son, Curtis Lee Roberts of Chino, Calif.; three daughters, Sharon Roberts Mendoza of Kennesaw, Ga., Sandra Wilder Padilla of Los Angeles and Karla Ann Roberts of Downey, Calif.; three brothers, Harold Roberts and Elbert Haskell Roberts, both of Charlotte, and Ted Roberts of Waxhaw, N.C.; two sisters, Dot Masuras of Fayetteville, N.C., and Emily Knight of North Augusta; and four grandchildren.

The family will receive friends from 10 to 11 a.m. today at Cauthen Funeral Home.

Peggy Rock

CHARLOTTE - Mrs. Peggy Costner Rock, 66, of Buckstone Lane died Saturday, March 27, 1999, at home.

The funeral will be 2 p.m. Wednesday at Pleasant Hill United Methodist Church, with the Rev. Mac Kinnett officiating. Burial will be at the church cemetery.

A native of Lincoln County, N.C., Mrs. Rock was the daughter of Ola N. Costner of Fort Mill and the late J.P. Costner. She was a graduate of St. Mary's College and worked for Belk at Carolina Place as a bridal registrar. She was a member of Pleasant Hill United Methodist Church and a former resident of Tega Cay.

Surviving in addition to her mother are two sons, Martin G. Rock of Ellerbe, N.C., and Tim P. Rock of Clover; her daughter, Susan Rock Mersch of Charlotte; her sister, Nancy Kugel of Winston-Salem, N.C.; her fiance, Dallas Stephenson of Fort Mill; and five grandchildren.

The family will receive friends from 7 to 9 tonight at Wolfe Funeral Home and after the service.

Gary Roddey

LANCASTER - Mr. Gary F. Roddey, 48, of 412 W. Springs St. died Sunday, March 28, 1999, at Dorn VA Medical Center in Columbia.

The funeral will be 2 p.m. Thursday at First Baptist Church, with the Revs. Shane Patrick and Dr. James D. Spencer III officiating. Burial will be at Lancaster Memorial Park.

A native of Lancaster County, Mr. Roddey was the son of the late William Otis Roddey and Sarah Elise Thomas Roddey. He was a retired employee of Springs Industries and a member of First Baptist Church. He was an Army veteran of World War II.

Surviving are his wife, Dorothy "Dottie" Wallace Roddey of Lancaster; his son, Gary Scott Roddey of Lancaster; two daughters, Leigh Chappell of Rock Hill and Melissa Roddey of York; his stepson, Rusty Crews of Lancaster; his stepdaughter, Tina Crews of Lancaster; three brothers, Buddy Roddey of Denver, Ralph Roddey of Rock Hill and Don Ray Roddey of Anderson; and seven grandchildren.

The family will receive friends from 7 to 9 p.m. Wednesday at Mahaffey Funeral Home.

Edward Holt

GREAT FALLS - Mr. Edward Eugene Holt, 73, of 18 Hill St. died Tuesday, March 30, 1999, at Chester County Hospital.

The funeral will be 3 p.m. Thursday at Second Baptist Church, with the Revs. Charles Bradley and Gary Lockee officiating. Burial will be at Greenlawn Cemetery.

A native of Great Falls, Mr. Holt was the son of Sara Viola Valentine Blackwell of Great Falls and the late Ben Holt. He was a retired slasher tenter for J.P. Stevens Co. He was a member of Second Baptist Church and an Army veteran of World War II.

Surviving in addition to his mother are his wife, Willie McManus Holt; his daughter, Crystle Holt of Baltimore; three stepsons, Archie Lucas, Wendell Lucas and Bobby Lucas, all of Great Falls; two stepdaughters, Mildred Benfield of Great Falls and Margarete Huffstickler of Columbia; his brother, Richard Holt of Wilmington, Del.; two sisters, Betty Plyler of Lancaster and Diane Morrison of Great Falls; 10 grandchildren; and 13 great-grandchildren.

The family will receive friends from 7 to 9 tonight at Dantzler-Baker Funeral Home.

Deborah Laws

FORT LAWN - Mrs. Deborah Martin Ellis Laws, 42, of 714 Western Acres Road died Sunday, March 28, 1999, at Daytona Beach, Fla.

The funeral will be 2 p.m. Friday at Lando Church of God, with the Rev. Charles LaFoy officiating. Burial will be at Elmwood Cemetery.

A native of Chester, Mrs. Laws was a former employee of Springs Industries and Duracell. She was a graduate of Lewisville High School.

Surviving are two sons, John Dale Ellis of Fort Lawn and Ralph Daniel Ellis Jr. of Fayette County, Ga.; her parents, John and Elizabeth Martin of Fort Lawn; her brother, Marion Martin of Edgemoor; and her sister, Beverly Knight of Fort Lawn.

The family will receive friends from 7 to 9 Thursday at Dantzler-Baker Funeral Home.

Mason White

CLOVER - Mr. Mason Robert White, 77, of 104 White St. died Sunday, March 28, 1999, at Carolinas Medical Center in Charlotte.

The funeral will be 2 p.m. Wednesday at M.L. Ford & Sons Funeral Home, with the Rev. Linda Jenkins officiating. Burial will be at Lakeview Memory Gardens.

A native of York County, Mr. White was a son of James White and Lizzie Bolin White. He was a retired carpenter and Army veteran of World War II.

Surviving are his wife, Marie Alexander White; his son, Mason Junior White of Clover; three daughters, Phyliss W. Beard of Clover, Joyce Swink of Gastonia, N.C., and Sheila White of Maiden, N.C.; two sisters, Annie Mae Huskey and Alene Kimble, both of York; eight grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.

The family will receive friends from 7 to 9 tonight at M.L. Ford & Sons Funeral Home.

Dee Ferrell

ROCK HILL - Mrs. Dee Carnes Ferrell, 76, of 3147 Skyline Road died Tuesday, March 30, 1999, at Piedmont Medical Center.

The funeral will be 3 p.m. Thursday at Sylvia Circle Baptist Church, with the Revs. B.I. Epting and Thurman Carnes officiating. Burial will be at Rock Hill Memorial Gardens.

A native of Lyons, Ga., Mrs. Ferrell, was the daughter of the late David Edgar Carnes and Emma McCarty Carnes. She was a member of Sylvia Circle Baptist Church, where she was a former Sunday school teacher, youth director, senior citizens director and nursery director.

Surviving are her husband, Albert "Jabo" Ferrell; her son, Dick Ferrell of Rock Hill; two daughters, Sue Clark and Ann Skar, both of Rock Hill; five grandchildren; and her great-grandchild.

The family will receive friends from 7 to 9 tonight at Cauthen Funeral Home and at other times at the home.
