Emma Langley

KENLY, N.C. - Mrs. Emma Pittman Langley, 84, died Tuesday, March 23, 1999, at Wilson Memorial Hospital.

The funeral will be 11 a.m. Friday at Parrish Funeral Home in Selma, N.C., with the Revs. James Joyner and Curtis Jones officiating. Burial will be at Holly Springs Free Will Baptist Church cemetery.

A native of Johnston County, N.C., Mrs. Langley was the daughter of the late John William Pittman and Maude Rains Pittman. She was the widow of Claudie D. Langley. She was a member and former Sunday school teacher at Holly Springs Free Will Baptist Church.

Surviving are three sons, Charles D. "C.D." Langley of Gray Court, Wilbert E. "Gene" Langley of Averil Park, N.Y., and Robert "Bobby" Langley of Whortonville, N.C.; two daughters, Maggie Larkin Boykin of Clover and Carolyn Langley of Selma; 20 grandchildren; and 34 great-grandchildren.

The family will receive friends from 7 to 9 tonight at Parrish Funeral Home, 1351 S. Pollock St., Selma, N.C.

D.C. Parsons

ELLERBE, N.C. - Mr. D.C. Parsons, 84, of 141 Crawford Road died Wednesday, March 24, 1999, at First Health Moore Regional Hospital in Pinehurst, N.C.

The funeral will be 4 p.m. Friday at First Presbyterian Church, with the Revs. James B. Watson and Edsel Huffstettler officiating. Burial will be at Ellerbe Cemetery.

A native of Montgomery County, N.C., Mr. Parsons was the son of the late Thomas A. Parsons and Callie Abigail McCollum Parsons. He was a retired butcher with Webb Food Center. He was a deacon at First Presbyterian Church from 1941 to 1953 and an elder from 1953 to the present.

Surviving are his wife of 63 years, Marjorie Stutts Parsons; his son, Larry Parsons of Fort Mill; two daughters, Susan DeWitt of Ellerbe and Miggie Hedrick of Raleigh, N.C.; his brother, Lacy Q. Parsons of Rockingham, N.C.; two sisters, Delila Hudson and Arlene Ingram, both of Ellerbe; eight grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; and his great-great-grandchild.

The family will receive friends from 7 to 9 tonight at Carter Funeral Home, 143 E. Church St., Ellerbe, N.C.

Mildred Rossi

CHARLOTTE - Mrs. Mildred "Trudy" Carrouth Rossi died Tuesday, March 23, 1999, at Mercy Hospital.

The funeral will be 11 a.m. Friday at Aldersgate United Methodist Church in Charlotte, with the Rev. Bell Campbell officiating. Burial will be at Forest Lawn-West Cemetery.

A native of Comers, Ga., Mrs. Rossi was the daughter of the late W. Henry Carrouth and Nina M. Carrouth. She was a member of Aldersgate United Methodist Church and was the widow of Charlie A. Rossi.

Surviving are two sons, Darryl Farris and Sonny Jackson, both of Charlotte; her daughter, Brenda Rossi of Charlotte; two sisters, Alvie Stallings and Madeline Jackson, both of Rock Hill; and five grandchildren.

The family will receive friends from 10 to 10:30 a.m. Friday at the church.

Memorials may be made to Aldersgate United Methodist Church, 5338 Nations Ford Road, Charlotte, NC 28217.

Annie Sanders

ROCK HILL - Mrs. Annie Lou Sanders, 90, of Rock Hill died Tuesday, March 23, 1999, at Beverly Health Care Center.

The funeral will be 2 p.m. Friday at McDougald Funeral Home in Anderson, with the Rev. Fred Finch and the Rev. Dr. Lewis Greene officiating. Burial will be at Old Silverbrook Cemetery.

A native of Anderson, Mrs. Sanders was a daughter of the late John Major Saraske and Laura Simpson Saraske. She was a member of Second Baptist Church of Greenville, where she was active in the shut-in ministry. She was a homemaker and the widow of Hoyt M. Sanders.

Surviving are her daughter, Connie S. Elrod of Anderson; her brother, J.L. Saraske of Anderson; two grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.

The family will receive friends from 7 to 8:30 tonight at McDougald Funeral Home and at other times at the home of her daughter, Connie Elrod, 655 McClure Road, Anderson.

Algernon Shillinglaw

WILMINGTON, Del. - Mr. Algernon Oats Shillinglaw, 90, died Tuesday, March 23, 1999, at Manor Care Pike Creek.

The funeral is private.

A native of Blacksburg, Mr. Shillinglaw was the son of the late Henry Martin Shillinglaw and Elizabeth Ormand Shillinglaw. He was an owner and operator of Sparkle Cleaners in Glen Burnie, Md., for 35 years before retiring in 1976. He was the widower of Lois Franklin Shillinglaw.

Surviving are two sons, Bob Shillinglaw of Elkton, Md., and James A. Shillinglaw of Mashpee, Mass.; two daughters, Betty McIntyre of Asheville, N.C., and Jenette Nanny of Alabama; his brother, Andral Shillinglaw of Blacksburg; two sisters, Martha Shillinglaw of Gaffney and Lenora McSwain of York; 10 grandchildren; and several great-grandchildren.

Robert T. Jones and Foard Inc. in Newark, Del., is in charge.

Mary Sumner

FORT MILL - Mrs. Mary Janet Gossett Sumner, 84, died Tuesday, March 23, 1999, at Magnolia Manor in Rock Hill.

A memorial service will be 5 p.m. today at Bible Baptist Church in Fort Mill, with the Rev. James Parrish officiating.

Mrs. Sumner was a former member of Fort Mill Baptist Church and an active member of Overbrook Baptist Church in Greenville. She was the widow of Ira L. Sumner Sr.

Surviving are two sons, Ira L. Sumner Jr. and George E. Sumner, both of Fort Mill; three daughters, Mona Anne S. Bishop of Rock Hill, Gwen Cole S. Baxley of Sharon, and Mary Nell S. Beckett of San Antonio; 17 grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren; and her step great-grandchild.

The family will receive friends after the service.

Memorials may be made to the Alzheimer's Association.

Rebecca Thatcher

ROCK HILL - Mrs. Rebecca Potts Thatcher, 65, of 1325 Reservation Road died Tuesday, March 23, 1999, at home.

A graveside service will be 2 p.m. today at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, Catawba Ward Cemetery, with Bishop Pieter Reynders officiating.

A native of Cedartown, Ga., Mrs. Thatcher was the daughter of the late John and Virgie Potts Wiggins.

Mrs. Thatcher was a retiree of the Rock Hill school district and worked at Winn-Dixie in Lancaster. She was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, Catawba Ward. She was the widow of Harold Thatcher.

Surviving are three sons, Stephen Keith Thatcher, Matthew Tyler Thatcher and Harold Lloyd Thatcher, all of Rock Hill; two daughters, June T. Hafner of Knoxville, Tenn., and Joyce Pamela McKinney of Rock Hill; three brothers, Alton Potts and Michael Potts, both of Rock Hill, and Noah Potts of Lancaster; seven sisters, Evelyn P. Snipes, Sara P. Canty, Peggy P. Faile and Grace P. Dixon, all of Rock Hill, Martha P. Clark of Catawba, Naomi P. Kaidbey of Charlotte, and Melinda P. Bowers of Boone, N.C.; 12 grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.

The family will receive friends after the service.
