Dorothy Helsabeck

ROCK HILL - Mrs. Dorothy Lee McCorkle Helsabeck, 79, of 931 Museum Road died Sunday, March, 21, 1999, at Westminster Health Care Center.

The funeral will be 11 a.m. Wednesday at First Christian Church, with the Rev. Mike Ditton officiating. Burial will be at Grandview Memorial Park.

A native of Monroe, N.C., Mrs. Helsabeck was the daughter of the late Wade T. McCorkle and Lula Ross McCorkle. She was a member of First Christian Church of Rock Hill and the Women's Club. She was retired from Celanese.

Surviving are her husband, David K. Helsabeck Sr.; three sons, John S. Nucholls of Rock Hill, Tommy Lee Nucholls of Baltimore and David K. Helsabeck Jr. of Murry Hill, N.J.; her sister, Sylvia McCorkle of Rock Hill; and four grandchildren.

The family will receive friends from 7 to 9 tonight at Greene Funeral Home and at other times at the home.

Memorials may be made to First Christian Church, 110 Laurens St., Rock Hill, SC 29730.

Jenny Rena Jewett

LANCASTER - Miss Jenny Rena Jewett, 20, of 1042 Laurel Ave., died Saturday, March 20, 1999, at Carolinas Medical Center in Charlotte.

The funeral will be 2 p.m. Tuesday at Hartley Funeral Home, with Dr. Stuart Snow and the Rev. Doug Taylor officiating. Burial will be at Lancaster Memorial Park.

Jewett was a native of Lancaster County. She was a full-time, two-year employee of Bi-Lo grocery store.

Surviving are her parents, Charles Melvin Jewett and Linda Reed Jewett; her brother, Charles Melvin Jewett II of Charlotte; her paternal grandmother, Virginia Horton of Lancaster; her maternal grandmother, Agnes Reed of Chester; and her paternal stepgrandmother, Nancy Jewett of Lancaster.

The family will receive friends from 7 to 9 tonight at Hartley Funeral Home.

Joseph Lane

ALBEMARLE, N.C. - Mr. Joseph Alan Lane, 53, of 625 Bethany Road, formerly of Clover, died Saturday, March 20, 1999, at Stanly Memorial Hospital.

The funeral will be 11 a.m. Tuesday at Faith Baptist Church in Clover, with the Rev. Mark Collins officiating. Burial will be at Lakeview Memory Gardens.

Mr. Lane was formerly employed by Machine Tool Sales of Clover and was of the Baptist faith. He was the son of the late Thomas Alton Lane and Culia McAllister Lane-Gates.

Surviving are his daughter, Sandra Marie Lane of Stanfield, N.C.; his brother, James Robert Lane of Warner Robins, Ga.; and three sisters, Shirley Flanagan of Virginia Beach, Va., Betty Griggs of Rock Hill and Elizabeth Patterson of Gastonia, N.C.

The family will receive friends from 10:30 to 11 a.m. Tuesday at Faith Baptist Church.

Jos? Price

EASLEY - Mrs. Jos? Haigler Price, 80, formerly of Red Bud Lane in Fort Mill, died Sunday, March 21, 1999, at Blue Ridge Nursing Center.

A graveside service will be 2 p.m. Tuesday at Grandview Memorial Park in Rock Hill, with the Rev. Jim McGill officiating.

Mrs. Price was the daughter of the late Oscar B. Haigler and Emma Griffin Haigler and a native of Union County, N.C. She was a homemaker and the widow of J.B. Price.

Surviving are two sons, Leon Price of Fort Mill and John Price of Camden; her daughter, Jean Stephens of Easley; her sister, Carol Davis of Darlington; six grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.

The family will receive friends from 7 to 9 tonight at Wolfe Funeral Home in Fort Mill and at other times at the home, 2710 Red Bud Lane.

Memorials may be made to the Thornwell Home and School for Children, P.O. Box 60, Clinton, SC 29325.

William Smith

ROCK HILL - Mr. William Frederick "Freddie" Smith, 59, died Friday, March 19, 1999.

The funeral will be 2 p.m. Tuesday at Providence Presbyterian Church, with the Rev. Barry Eller officiating. Burial will be at the church cemetery.

Mr. Smith was a native of Charlotte and was the son of Lucille Stonnell Logan and the late Charles Torrance Smith.

Mr. Smith graduated from Myers Park High School and attended Lenoir-Rhyne College, where he was chaplain of his fraternity. He won a gold medal for public speaking while in college.

Mr. Smith joined his parents in the appliance business, the Good Housekeeping Shop, in 1960. He expanded the business with one store in the Rock Hill Mall and two in Charlotte. In 1979, he and his wife, Nancy Mills Smith, opened the Real Estate Center in Pineville, N.C. He was a member and a deacon at Providence Presbyterian Church.

Surviving in addition to his mother and his wife of 38 years are his son, Brad Smith of Charlotte; his daughter, Melodie S. Carswell, of Waxhaw, N.C.; his brother, Dewey Smith, of Albany, Ga.; and two half-brothers, Charles E. "Chuck" Smith, of Boone, N.C., and Lowell Smith, of Richmond, Va.

The family will receive friends from 7 to 8:30 tonight at Harry & Bryant Co. in Charlotte.

Memorials may be made to Providence Presbyterian Church, Charles T. Smith Scholarship Fund, 10140 Providence Road, Charlotte, NC 28226.

William Blackmon Sr.

LANCASTER - Mr. William H. "Bill" Blackmon Sr., 87, of 1678 Pageland Highway died Saturday, March 20, 1999.

The funeral will be 3 p.m. today at Glenwood Heights Baptist Church, with the Rev. Drs. Ben Newman and Rommy Mullis officiating. Burial with Masonic Rites will be in Lancaster Memorial Park.

A native of York County, he was a son of the late Jessie Brice Blackmon Sr. and Charlotte Estelle Parrish Blackmon. He was the widower of Virginia Christine Young Blackmon. Mr. Blackmon was the retired owner of Bill Blackmon Garage, a member of Camp Creek Masonic Lodge, had received his 41-year pin for membership in Hejaz Shrine Temple and was a member of Eastern Star. He was a member of the Camp Creek Volunteer Fire Department from 1959 to 1999 and was a member of Glenwood Heights Baptist Church.

Surviving are his son, William H. "Bill" Blackmon Jr. of Lancaster; two daughters, Elsie Lloyd and Sybil Pelot, both of Lancaster; his brother, Y. Ned Blackmon of Charleston; 13 grandchildren; and 10 great-grandchildren.

Memorials may be made to the Shriners Hospital for Crippled Children, 950 W. Faris Road, Greenville, SC 29605.

Mahaffey Funeral Home is in charge.

Mary Campbell

CHESTER - Ms. Mary Ann Jones Campbell, 66, of 2687 McDaniel Road died Monday, March 22, 1998, at Chester County Hospital.

Arrangements will be announced by King's Funeral Home, 135 Cemetery St.
