Nancy Ledford

EDGEMOOR - Mrs. Nancy Jean Ledford died Saturday, March 20, 1999, at Piedmont Medical Center in Rock Hill.

Services were private.

A native of Washington, D.C., Mrs. Ledford was a legal secretary for more than 22 years. She was active in the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.

Surviving are her husband, Lloyd Ledford, three children, Joseph Wiser, Sandy Wiser, and Brian Ledford; her mother, Jean Spalding; her sister, Jacquelyn Carrier; her brother, Merrick Spalding; 10 grandchildren; and a great-grandchild.

Cauthen Funeral Home was in charge.

Dorothy Shultz

YORK - Mrs. Dorothy Ennis Shultz, 77, of 111 S. Congress St. died Friday, March 12, 1999, at White Oak Manor.

Burial was at St. James Cemetery in Lambertville, N.J.

A native of Lambertville, Mrs. Shultz was a daughter of the late James Ennis and Eva Hettman Ennis. She was a homemaker and a Navy veteran of World War II. She was a member of Divine Saviour Catholic Church.

Surviving are her son, Richard E. Shultz of York; two daughters, Teri Schultz of Chandler, Ariz., and Patti S. Thomas of Albuquerque, N.M.; three brothers, Raymond Ennis of Lambertville, Eugene Ennis of Flagler Beach, Fla., and Robert Ennis of Yardley, Pa.; and six grandchildren.

Garefino Funeral Home of Lambertville was in charge.

Memorials may be made to Divine Saviour Catholic Church, P.O. Box 341, York, SC 29745.

Betty Buckson

EDGEMOOR - Mrs. Betty Jean Douglas Buckson of 3740 Fescue Road died Tuesday, March 16, 1999, at Piedmont Medical Center in Rock Hill.

The funeral will be 3 p.m. Friday at Red Oak AME Zion Church, with the Rev. Gary Smith officiating. Burial will be at the church cemetery.

Mrs. Buckson was a native of Chester County. She was an employee at Lewisville Elementary School and a member of Red Oak AME Zion Church, where she was on the Usher Board and choir. She attended York County public schools.

Surviving are her husband, Tommy Lee Buckson; her son, Tommy N. Buckson of Rock Hill; her daughter, Doris Heath of Charlotte; her mother, Mable L. Douglas of Rock Hill; four brothers, Willie Douglas and McArthur Douglas, both of Rock Hill, and Ernest Douglas and Donald Douglas, both of Edgemoor; and four grandchildren.

The body may be viewed from5 to 6 p.m. Thursday at Robinson Funeral Home. The body will be taken to the church at 1 p.m. Friday.

Virgie Whitaker

KERSHAW - Mrs. Virgie Hunter Whitaker, 96, of 309 N. Cleveland St. died Tuesday, March 23, 1999, at Springs Memorial Hospital in Lancaster.

The funeral will be 3 p.m. Thursday at Cauthen Funeral Home, with the Rev. Hugh McKinney officiating. Burial will be at Kershaw City Cemetery.

A native of Kershaw, Mrs. Whitaker was a daughter of late Julius Hunter and Martha Faile Hunter. A homemaker, she was the widow of Daniel Jackson Whitaker. She was a member of Second Baptist Church.

Surviving are her son-in-law, Robert L. Anderson of Kershaw; four grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren.

The family will receive friends from 7 to 9 tonight at Cauthen Funeral Home and at other times at the home of Brandy Anderson, 309 N. Cleveland St., Kershaw.

Massey Whitlock Jr.

ROCK HILL - Mr. Massey Whitlock Jr. of 720 Kinghurst Drive died Friday, March 19, 1999, at Springs Memorial Hospital in Lancaster.

The funeral will be 2 p.m. Friday at Pineville AME Zion Church, with the Rev. Willie L. Hardin officiating. Burial will be at Barber Memorial Cemetery.

Mr. Whitlock was a member of Pineville AME Zion Church, where he served on the Aid Society and was a former member of the trustee board and senior usher board. He attended York County public schools.

Surviving are his daughter, Susie W. Odom of Charlotte; two sons, Tommy Tucker of Rock Hill and Gary L. Whitlock of Kingston, N.Y.; two brothers, David Whitlock and Leroy Whitlock, both of Rock Hill; 13 grandchildren; and 24 great-grandchildren.

The family will receive friends from 7 to 8 p.m. Thursday at Robinson Funeral Home and at other times at the home of his brother, Leroy Whitlock, 1041 S. Stonewall Ave., Rock Hill.

The body will be taken to the church at noon Friday.

Willie Green

FORT MILL - Mrs. Willie Mae Barber Green of 207 Cinda St. died Monday, March 15, 1999, at Piedmont Medical Center in Rock Hill.

The funeral will be 3 p.m. Thursday at United AME Zion Church, with the Rev. T.R. McBeth officiating and the Revs. K.L. Sanders, Loretta Adams and C.J. Jenkins assisting. Burial will be at Greenhill Cemetery.

A native of Mecklenburg County, N.C., Mrs. Green was the daughter of the late Willie Barber and Lula Rodman Barber.

She joined James Chapel Baptist Church at an early age. She later joined Pleasant Valley Church and was a member of United AME Zion Church.

She served with the Hymn Choir, Willing Workers, Missionaries, Stewardess Board and Deaconess.

Surviving are five daughters, Bettye Culp of the home, Amanda Davis and Rebecca White, both of Fort Mill, and Tessea Cloud and Doris Tillman, both of Rock Hill; two brothers, Otis Potts and Nesbitt Potts, both of Fort Mill; 16 grandchildren; and 35 great-grandchildren.

The family will receive friends at 2 p.m. Thursday at the church.

Clemons Funeral Home is in charge.

Clennon Phillips

LAKE WYLIE - Mr. Clennon Phillips, 47, of 299 Regal Road died Monday, March, 15, 1999, at Piedmont Medical Center in Rock Hill.

The funeral will be 3 p.m. Thursday at Wright Funeral Home in York, with the Rev. Keith Hunter officiating. Burial will be at Uniondale Cemetery in York.

A native of York County, Mr. Phillips was the son of the late Robert Saye and Sarah Durham Phillips. He was a landscaper and attended Liberty Hill AME Zion Church.

Surviving are seven brothers, Robert Phillips, Alexander Phillips, Donald Phillips, David Phillips and Jerry Phillips, all of Lake Wylie, and Paul Phillips and Richard Phillips, both of Gastonia, N.C.; and three sisters, Martha P. June, Mary E. Phillips and Sallie P. Woods, all of Gastonia.

The family will receive friends from 2:30 to 3 p.m. Thursday at Wright Funeral Home and at other times at the home.

John Cash Sr.

ROCK HILL - Mr. John Bundy "Cash" Cash Sr., 50, of 1046 Ebenezer Ave. Extension died Monday, March 15, 1999, at Dorn VA Medical Center in Columbia.

A graveside service will be 2 p.m. Thursday at Grandview Memorial Park, with the Rev. Lewis Vehaun officiating.

A native of York County, Mr. Cash was the son of Mamie Rumfelt Cash of Rock Hill and the late Robert Grant Cash. He was a member of the American Legion.

Surviving in addition to his mother are his wife, Frances Dixon Cash of Lancaster; his son, John Bundy Cash Jr. of Rock Hill; his daughter, Amanda C. Adkins of Rock Hill; three brothers, Robert Thomas Cash and David Grant Cash, both of Rock Hill, and Jessie Marion Cash of Fort Mill; and his grandchild.

The family will receive friends at the home of David Cash, 1050 Chris Court, Rock Hill.

Memorials may be made to the American Cancer Society, 339 E. Main St., Rock Hill, SC 29730.
