Joe Tidwell

RICHBURG - Mr. Joe Tidwell, 82, of 105 Gladden Road died Saturday, March 13, 1999, at Beverly Health Care in Rock Hill.

The funeral will be 3 p.m. Thursday at Mount Moriah AME Zion Church, with the Rev. Grady Sharp officiating and the Revs. G.G. Johnson and Dr. Mirian Crawford and Pastor Bernard Morris assisting. Burial will be at the church cemetery.

Mr. Tidwell was a member of Mount Moriah AME Zion Church, where he was a former trustee. He was retired from Rock Hill Printing & Finishing Co. and attended Chester County public schools.

Surviving are his wife, Lena M. Tidwell; three sons, Robert Tidwell of New Jersey, Joe Tidwell Jr. of Fort Lawn and James Lewis of Great Falls; 12 daughters, Lottie Brown, Henrietta Bowler, Laura Tidwell and Elizabeth Johnson, all of Chester, Mary L. Culp of Richburg, Louise Lewis and Lois Lewis, both of Great Falls, Sarah Cousar of New York, Cora Tidwell, Maggie B. Shaw and Katherine Tidwell, all of Detroit, and Elsie Jefferson of Louisiana; his stepdaughter, Annette Patrick of New York; two sisters, Shirley Tidwell and Marie Tidwell, both of Charlotte; 27 grandchildren; 18 great-grandchildren; his step-grandchild; and his step-great-grandchild.

The family will receive friends at home.

The body may be viewed from 2 to 9 p.m. today at Kings Funeral Home, 135 Cemetery St.

The body will be taken to the church at 2 p.m. Thursday.

Bernice Beaver

FORT MILL - Mrs. Bernice Funderburk Beaver, 87, formerly of White Street, died Thursday, March 18, 1999, at White Oak Manor in York.

The funeral will be 2 p.m. Saturday at First Baptist Church, Fort Mill, with the Revs. Jeff Bedwell and Terry Wingate officiating. Burial will be at Laurelwood Cemetery in Rock Hill.

A native of York County, she was a daughter of the late George and Hattie Funderburk. She was the widow of William A. "Bill" Beaver and was preceded in death by a daughter, Jeannette Beaver.

She was a member of First Baptist Church. She was retired from Springs Industries, where she worked in the cafeteria.

Surviving are her son, William Larry Beaver of Anderson; and her sister, Lela Jordan of Rock Hill.

The family will receive friends from 6:30 to 8:30 tonight at Wolfe Funeral Home in Rock Hill.

Memorials may be made to the Alzheimer's Association, Mid State Chapter, P.O. Box 7044, Columbia, SC 29202.

Glenn Bennett

GREAT FALLS - Mr. Glenn Bennett, 80, of 36 Pinecrest Ave. died Tuesday, March 16, 1999, at East Cooper Regional Medical Center in Mount Pleasant.

The funeral will be 2 p.m. Thursday at Great Falls Presbyterian Church, with the Rev. Clarence Fouse officiating. Burial will be at Greenlawn Cemetery.

A native of Lancaster County, Mr. Bennett was the son of the late William Edgar Bennett and Sadie Dabney Bennett. Mr. Bennett was retired from the Great Falls Post Office as assistant postmaster after 28 years service. He was a graduate of Lancaster High School and was a member of Great Falls Presbyterian Church, where he had been an Elder since 1951 and had taught Sunday school for many years. He served as a first sergeant in the Army during World War II.

He was a member of the Great Falls Lions Club and was appointed to the board of the Chester County Natural Gas Authority in 1955. He was a member of the Hometown Association, past president of the Jaycees, past commander of the American Legion and past president of the PTA. He served on the Great Falls Town Council from 1968 to 1978 and as mayor from 1978 to 1981. He was the widower of Jean Brannon Bennett.

Surviving are three daughters, Martha B. Waters of Mount Pleasant, Mary B. Summers of Summerville and Melinda B. Gilreath of Simpson-ville; his brother, Earl Bennett of Lancaster; two sisters, Saralie Simpson of Lancaster and Deet Elliott of Camden; and five grandchildren.

The family will receive friends at home.

Memorials may be made to Great Falls Presbyterian Church, P.O. Box 466, Great Falls, SC 29055.

Idell Sumter

IRVINGTON, N.J. - Mrs. Idell Sumter of 712 15th Ave. died Friday, March 12, 1999.

The funeral will be 11 a.m. Thurs-day at Metropolitan Baptist Church in Newark, N.J. Burial will be at Hollywood Cemetery in Irvington.

Surviving are her husband, Thomas Sumter; her daughter, Anna Mae Sumter Boulware of Chester; and her sister, Etheline Edwards of East Orange, N.J.

The family will receive friends from 4 to 8 tonight at Whigham Funeral Home, 580 Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Blvd., Newark.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Metropolitan Baptist Church, 149 Springfield Ave., Newark, NJ 07103.

The family is at the home of Mrs. Sumter's daughter, the Rev. and Mrs. Jessie Boulware, 105 Cemetery St. in Chester.

Gore's Funeral Home is in charge of local arrangements.

S.L. McCormick

GREAT FALLS - Mr. S.L. McCormick, 62, of 105 Locust St. died Tuesday, March 16, 1999, at home.

The graveside service will be 3 p.m. Friday at Greenlawn Cemetery, with the Rev. Charles Bradley officiating.

A native of Lancaster County, Mr. McCormick was a son of the late Heyward Pink McCormick and Emma Busbee McCormick. He was a former employee of J.P. Stevens and Springs Industries. He was the widower of Barbara Dixon McCormick.

Surviving are two sons, Willie McCormick of Nashville, Tenn., and Tony McCormick of Boston; two sisters, Viola Baker of Great Falls and Bertha Jean Self of Columbia; and his grandson.

The family will receive friends from 1:30 to 2:30 p.m. Friday at Dantzler-Baker Funeral Home.

Margaret Mobley

KERSHAW - Mrs. Margaret Allison Mobley, 79, of 405 Stevens Drive died Tuesday, March 16, 1999, at Richland Memorial Hospital in Columbia.

The funeral will be 2 p.m. today at First Baptist Church, with the Rev. Bryant Fersner officiating. Burial will be at Kershaw City Cemetery.

A native of York County, Mrs. Mobley was a daughter of the late John Pinckney and Emily Wylie Allison. She was a graduate of Winthrop College and retired after 32 years of teaching. She taught home economics at Jefferson High School and third grade at Flat Creek Elementary School. She was a member of the South Carolina Retired Teacher Association, the King Alfred Garden Club and First Baptist Church, where she was in the Esther Sunday school classes and the church Bible study group.

Surviving are her husband, W. Jack Mobley of Kershaw; her son, Don W. Moore of Kershaw; her daughter, Jackie Pope of Kershaw; her brother, J.P. Allison of Camden; two grandchildren; and her great-grandchild.

Memorials may be made to First Baptist Church building fund, 210 N. Matson St., Kershaw, SC 29067 or to Hospice of Lancaster, 800 W. Meeting St., Lancaster, SC 29720.

Gregory Mokritsky

COLUMBIA - Mr. Gregory Alexander Mokritsky of Columbia died Tuesday, March 16, 1999 at home.

The graveside service will be 11 a.m. Friday at Greenlawn Memorial Park.

A native of Endicott, N.Y., Mr. Mokritsky was a son of the late Theodore F. Mokritsky and Rosa Tudorff Mokritsky. He served in the Army 26 years, where he played in the Army band. He was member of the Society of the First Division and a charter member of First Infantry Division Band, where he served as first chair clarinet soloist. He was a member of the Disabled American Veterans Chapter 13. He was of the Greek Orthodox Faith.

Surviving are his wife, Shirley Partin Mokritsky; two daughters, Angela M. Groves of Lugoff and Suzanne M. Kummer of Rock Hill; and three grandchildren.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Disabled American Veterans Chapter 13 or to the American Heart Association.

Greenlawn Memorial Park and Funeral Home is in charge.

Sam Barber Jr.

GREAT FALLS - Mr. Sam Barber Jr., 55, of 576 Tanglewood Road, Pearidge Community, died Wednesday, March 17, 1999.

The graveside service will be 3 p.m. Saturday at New Independent Methodist Church Cemetery, with the Rev. M. Whitten officiating.

Mr. Barber was retired from the Cedar Creek Hydro Plant of Duke Power, where he was operator. He was a member of New Independent Methodist Church.

Surviving are his son, the Rev. Reginald Barber of Whitmire; two daughters, Jacqueline Barber of Great Falls and Tabatha B. Crank of Chester; five brothers, James Barber, Willie Barber, Joseph Barber and James W. Barber, all of Great Falls, and Robert Barber of Lancaster; six sisters, Louise Green of Brooklyn, N.Y., Novella Hughes of Freeport, N.Y., and Mamie Barber, Maggie Brace and Adelene Barber and Sarah Cloud, all of Great Falls; and five grandchildren.

The family will receive friends at home.
