John Cook

YORK - Mr. John H. Cook, 45, of 3000 Bailes Road died Wednesday, March 10, 1999, at Allison Creek Road.

The funeral will be 4 p.m. Monday at York Funeral Home.

A native of Sacramento, Calif., Mr. Cook was a self-employed plumbing contractor and member of the Southern Bass Masters Association.

Surviving are his wife, Haze Hammett Cook of York; his parents, Harry and Anna Price Cook of Sacramento; his daughter, Ashley Ann Cook of Sacramento; two brothers, Stephen Cook and Dennis Cook, both of Sacramento; and two sisters, Teresa C. Johnson of Sacramento and Alice C. Rudnick of Bentwood, Calif.

The family will receive friends from 7 to 9 p.m. today at York Funeral Home.

Memorials can be made to the Nature Conservancy of South Carolina, P.O. Box 5475, Columbia, SC 29250.

Viola McGuirt

FORT MILL - Mrs. Viola Saferick McGuirt, 73, of 129 Academy St. died Saturday, March 13, 1999, at Integrated Health Care in Charlotte.

A graveside funeral service will be held at 2 p.m. Monday at Unity Cemetery, with the Rev. Jason Coley officiating.

A native of Taylor, Texas, Mrs. McGuirt was a member of Independent Bible Baptist Church. She was a homemaker. She was the daughter of the late Mr. and Mrs. Joseph Saferick and the widow of John McGuirt.

Mrs. McGuirt is survived by two sons, Billy McGuirt and Charles Lee McGuirt, both of Fort Mill; two sisters; three grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren.

Visitation will be from 7 to 9 p.m. today at Wolfe Funeral Home in Fort Mill and at other times at the family home, 128 Academy St., Fort Mill.

Louise Putnam

CLOVER - Mrs. Margaret Louise Parrish Putnam, 87, formerly of Clover, died Saturday, March 13, 1999, at Tuomey Hospital in Sumter.

The graveside service will be 11 a.m. Monday at Woodside Cemetery, with the Rev. Paul Hutchison officiating.

Mrs. Putnam was a member of Clover First United Methodist Church and retired from American Thread Co. She was the widow of P. Lyles Putnam.

Surviving are a niece, Nancy Schoolcraft of Newton, N.C., and a nephew, Buddy Parrish of Charleston.

The family will receive friends one hour before the service at M.L. Ford & Sons Funeral Home in Clover.

Florence Roach

ROCK HILL - Miss Florence Earle Roach, 89, formerly of Rock Hill, died Saturday, March 13, 1999, at the Presbyterian Home in Clinton.

A graveside service will be 2 p.m. today at Laurelwood Cemetery, with Dr. Mark Verdery officiating.

A native of Rock Hill, Miss Roach was the daughter of the late Knox and Nancy Thornwell Roach. She was a member of First Presbyterian Church and a graduate of the University of South Carolina. She was a member of Alpha Delta Pi Sorority, the Euepian Club and a lifetime member of the South Caroliniana Society.

She worked as a reference librarian at the Rock Hill Public and York County libraries from 1957 to 1975. She also worked in the research department of the S.C. Agricultural Experiment Station.

Surviving are her cousins, Mrs. Charles Watts of Bristol, Tenn., James Watts of Gaffney, Beth Watts Patterson of Bristol, Va., Mrs. Lou P. Beaty of York and Margaret P. Epps of Myrtle Beach.

Memorials may be made to First Presbyterian Church, 244 Black St., Rock Hill, SC 29730.

Franklin Stevenson

GREAT FALLS - Mr. Franklin D. Stevenson, 59, of 39 Canal St. died Friday, March 12, 1999, at Chester County Hospital.

The funeral will be 2 p.m. Monday at Second Baptist Church, with the Revs. Charles Bradley and Gary Lockee officiating. Burial will be at Greenlawn Cemetery.

Mr. Stevenson was a native of Chester County and attended Great Falls schools. He was the son of Nancy W. Stevenson and the late Jim Stevenson. He was the owner and operator of Stevenson's Cleaning Service. He was the widower of Dorothy Cockrell Stevenson.

Surviving are two daughters, Joanne Millen and Darlene Gladden, both of Great Falls; two brothers, Ronald Stevenson and Robert L. "Honey" Stevenson, both of Great Falls; two sisters, Peggy Weed and Lucille Stevenson, both of Great Falls; his mother, Nancy W. Stevenson of Great Falls; and three grandchildren.

The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 tonight at Dantzler-Baker Funeral Home.

Margaret Byrd

LANCASTER - Mrs. Margaret McCorkle Byrd, 69, of 702 Nichols Road died Saturday, March 13, 1999, at home.

The funeral will be 3 p.m. today at Glenwood Heights Baptist Church, with the Revs. Roy Ryan and Ron Gregory officiating. Burial will be at Lancaster Memorial Park.

Mrs. Byrd was a daughter of the late James Albert and Lucy Ann Ogburn McCorkle and was the widow of the late Ray A. Byrd. She was a retired divisional buyer for Belk department store, where she worked for 35 years, and was a member of Glenwood Heights Baptist Church.

Surviving are her son, Darrell Ray Byrd of Athens, Ga.; her daughter, Lisa Ann Byrd; and her sister, Bea Walters of Lancaster.

Memorials may be made to Lancaster County Council on Aging, 300-A West Gay St., Lancaster, SC 29720.

Ethel Glenn

YORK - Mrs. Ethel S. Glenn, formerly of Clover, died Sunday, March 14, 1999, at Piedmont Medical Center in Rock Hill.

The funeral will be 10 a.m. Tuesday at Scherer Memorial Presbyterian Church, with the Rev. Barrett Jordan officiating. Burial will be at Bethel Presbyterian Church cemetery.

Mrs. Glenn was a York County native and was the daughter of the late Robert A. and Bertie B. Stewart. She was the widow of Thomas F. Glenn. She was a homemaker and a faithful member of Scherer Memorial Presbyterian Church.

Surviving are her daughter, Pam G. Brandon of York; her sister, Lila Stewart of Belmont, N.C.; two grandchildren; and her caregiver, Margaret Starnes.

The family will receive friends from 7 to 9 tonight at M.L. Ford and Sons Funeral Home.

Memorials may be made to Scherer Memorial Presbyterian Church building fund, 4800 Charlotte Hwy., Lake Wylie, SC 29710.
