Dorothy Mullis

HENDERSONVILLE, N.C. - Mrs. Dorothy Alvaree Doster Mullis died Sunday, March 14, 1999.

The funeral will be 2 p.m. Wednesday at Mount Pleasant Presbyterian Church in Lowrys, with the Revs. Dean Elliott and Clyde Mitchum officiating. Burial will be at the church cemetery.

A native of Chester, Mrs. Mullis was the daughter of the late Feaster Doster and Jeanette Doster Etters. She was the widow of John E. Mullis Sr. She was a member of Chimney Rock Baptist Church and was an active member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars Auxiliary.

Surviving are her fiance, Keith Gregory of Lake Lure, N.C.; two sons, John Mullis of Hendersonville and Ronnie Mullis of Clemson; four daughters, Dorothy Thompson of Hendersonville, Madonna Rooks of Dacula, Ga., Cheryl Hudson of Lincolnton, N.C., and Connie Ansari of Rock Hill; her brother, James Doster of Apollo Beach, Fla.; her sister, Margie Doster Burrows of Columbia; 13 grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.

The family will receive friends from 7 to 8:30 tonight at Jackson's Funeral Home in Hendersonville, from 12:30 to 2 p.m. Wednesday at the church and at other times at the home of John and Sylvia Mullis in Edneyville, N.C.

Memorials may be made to the Leukemia Society of America, 5624 Executive Drive, Charlotte, NC 28212.

Georgia Pobi

BROOKLYN, N.Y. - Mrs. Georgia Anne Pobi, 51, of Brooklyn, formerly of Chester County, died Saturday, March 13, 1999, in Brooklyn.

Arrangements will be announced by Denton Funeral Home of Chester.

Charles Ross Sr.

ROCK HILL - Mr. Charles Clifton Ross Sr., 80, of 4020 Pinehurst Drive died Monday, March 15, 1999, at Piedmont Medical Center.

A graveside service will be 1 p.m. today at Grandview Memorial Park, with the Rev. Ben. L. Barnett officiating.

A native of Lancaster County, Mr. Ross was the son of the late Benjamin R. Ross and Jenny Ross. He was a member of India Hook United Methodist Church and a former member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 2889. He was a Marine Corps veteran of World War II and the South Pacific Theater. He was a police officer with the City of Rock Hill from 1947 to 1952 and a security officer with Celanese Corp. from 1952 until 1970. He worked with Security Forces of Charlotte from 1970 until his retirement in 1981.

Surviving are his wife, Eula Greene Ross; two sons, Charles C. Ross Jr. of Gastonia, N.C., and Donald L. Ross of High Point, N.C.; his daughter, Debbie Ross McDaniel of Catawba; his brother, David Ross of Rock Hill; three sisters, Evelyn R. Christmas, Clara R. Deas and Ann R. McGuirt, all of Rock Hill; and seven grandchildren.

The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 tonight at home.

Memorials may be made to India Hook United Methodist Church, 3300 Mount Gallant Road, Rock Hill, SC 29732.

Eva Weir

GASTONIA, N.C. - Mrs. Eva Jane Davis Weir, 78, of ARP Manor, formerly of Pinckney Street, Chester, died Sunday, March 14, 1999, at Gaston Memorial Hospital.

The funeral will be 2 p.m. Wednesday at Barron Funeral Home, with the Rev. Don Davis officiating. Burial will be at Chester Memorial Gardens.

A native of Cooke County, Texas, Mrs. Weir was the daughter of the late J.N. and Flora Barner Davis. She was a retired sales associate from Sears & Roebuck in Gastonia. She was a member of Parkway Baptist Church and was a graduate of Chester High School. She was the widow of Robert Coleman Weir Sr.

Surviving are her son, Rick Weir of Blackstock; her brother, Earl W. Davis of Charlotte; three sisters, Gladys Chavis of Gastonia, N.C., Pearl Ogburn of Lancaster and Mary Owensby of Wickliffe, Ky.; three grandchildren; and her great-grandchild.

The family will receive friends from 1 to 2 p.m. Wednesday at Barron Funeral Home.

Margaret Whisnant

CHARLOTTE - Mrs. Margaret Fant Whisnant, 71, of 3600 Cypress Club Drive, Villa 101-B, died Monday, March 15, 1999, at Stewart Health Center.

A memorial service will be 2 p.m. Wednesday at River Hills Community Church, with the Rev. Russ Brown officiating.

A native of Easley, Mrs. Whisnant was the daughter of the late Jessie Haddon Fant and Mary Elizabeth Geer Fant Moore. She was a 1948 graduate of Furman University. A longtime resident of River Hills, she was a member of River Hills Community Church, an avid bridge player and a church and community volunteer.

Surviving are her husband, William L. Whisnant; her son, Bill Whisnant of Saratoga, Calif.; her daughter, Patty Cease of Cary, N.C.; and three grandchildren.

Andrew Barber

ROCK HILL - Andrew M. Barber, the 3-month-old son of Michael and Tiffany Hill Barber of 1929 Williford Road, died Tuesday, March, 9, 1999, at home.

The funeral will be 2 p.m. Friday at Oakdale Baptist Church, with the Rev. Jerry Devinney officiating. Burial will be at Grandview Memorial Park.

Surviving in addition to his parents are his brother, James Tyler Grant of the home; his twin sister, Alyssa Barber of the home; his paternal grandfather, Marvin Barber of Rock Hill; his paternal grandmother, Denna Jenkins of South Pittsburg, Tenn.; his maternal grandparents, John and Viola Hill of Rock Hill; his maternal great-grandfather, Jimmy Hawkins of Rock Hill; his maternal great-grandparents, Patsy and Joe Tucker of Rock Hill; his maternal great-great-grandmother, Connie Hawkins of Rock Hill; his paternal great-grandmother, Ardenna Jenkins of Riverside, Calif.; and his paternal great-grandmother, Ruby Barber of Huntsville, Ala.

The family will receive friends from 7 to 9 tonight at Greene Funeral Home.

Thomas Burds

LANCASTER, Texas - Mr. Thomas Michael Burds, 49, died Sunday, Feb. 21, 1999.

The funeral was in Lancaster, Texas, in February.

Mr. Burds was employed for a number of years at Ford Motor Co. in Dearborn, Mich., and served in Vietnam.

Surviving are his wife, Peggy Bauman; his son, Randall Scott Burds of Dallas; his daughter, Shannon Goulet Burds of Garden City, Mich.; his mother and stepfather, Faith and George Somers Sr. of Rock Hill; three brothers, Robert Burds of Dallas, Jeffrey Burds of New York and Timothy Burds of Rock Hill; three sisters, Sandra Chapp of Fort Worth, Texas, Susan Burds of Rock Hill and Christine Butler of South Lyons, Mich.; and his grandchild.

Byrum Funeral Home was in charge.

Dennis Eubanks

BLACKSBURG - Mr. Dennis "Duck" Neil Eubanks, 46, of 707 Burt Mill Road died Sunday, March 7, 1999, in Moncks Corner.

The funeral will be 11 a.m. Thursday at McLean-Bumgardner Funeral Home in Belmont, N.C., with the Rev. Roger Franklin officiating. Burial will be 3 p.m. Thursday at Lancaster Memorial Park.

A native of Monroe, N.C., he was the son of the late Hazel and Evelyn Broadway Eubanks. He was an Air Force veteran and served as an air policeman during the Vietnam War. He was employed by Suitt Construction Co. as an electrician and was a member of American Legion Post 243 in Bessemer City, N.C.

Surviving are his wife, Sandra Hooper Eubanks; and his son, Peter Eubanks of Boone.

The family will receive friends from 7 to 8:30 tonight at McLean-Bumgardner Funeral Home.
