Exie Smith

COLUMBIA - Mrs. Exie Hoffman Smith, 98, formerly of Rock Hill, died Thursday, March 4, 1999.

The funeral will be 3:30 p.m. today in the Mausoleum Chapel of Greenlawn Memorial Park.

A native of York County, Mrs. Smith was the daughter of the late Frederick Eugene and Annie Lee Carroll Hoffman. A long-time member of St. John's United Methodist Church in Rock Hill, she was also a member of Trenholm Road United Methodist Church in Columbia.

She was known for her tatting abilities, making table cloths, napkins, linens, handkerchiefs, baby clothes and precious heirlooms.

Surviving are two daughters, Carolyn Smith and Frances Smith; two grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.

The family will receive friends immediately following the service at the mausoleum, Memorials may be made to Trenholm Road United Methodist Church, 3401 Trenholm Road, Columbia, SC 29204.

Georgia Robinson

CHESTER - Mrs. Georgia Ball Robinson, 96, formerly of Lancaster Street, died Wednesday, March 10, 1999, at Chester County Nursing Center.

A graveside service will be 2 p.m. today at Evergreen Cemetery, with the Rev. Clay Waldrip officiating.

A native of Chester, Mrs. Robinson was the daughter of the late G.R. and Hattie Broome Ball. She was the widow of A.E. Robinson. A homemaker, Mrs. Robinson was a graduate of Chester High School and a member of First Baptist Church.

Surviving are her son, Erwin R. "Ergie" Robinson of Chester; five grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren.

The family will receive friends at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Erwin Robinson, 1020 Pineview Lakes, Chester.

Memorials may be made to First Baptist Church, P.O. Box 518, Chester, SC 29076.

John Roddey

ROCK HILL - Mr. John Roddey, 97, of 2790 Springvalley Road died Wednesday, March 10, 1999, at Ebenezer Nursing Home.

A memorial service will be 11 a.m. today at Oakland Avenue Presbyterian Church, with the Rev. Dr. William Pender officiating.

A native of Rock Hill, Mr. Roddey was the son of the late William Joseph and Mary Perry Dunlap Roddey. He was a graduate of Winthrop Training School, attended Davidson College and then transferred to the University of South Carolina, where he graduated. Mr. Roddey was a charter member of the Oakland Avenue Presbyterian Church, where he was a deacon.

He was president of Roddey Investments. He was also president of the YMCA and served on the board for many years. He was a Salvation Army board chairman and served on the board of Friendship College. He was secretary and treasurer of Victory Cotton Mills, which was the first customer of Duke Power. He was a Rotarian and an Elks Club member. He owned Mount Pleasant Quail Farm and shipped eggs all over the United States.

Surviving are his wife, Jean Richards Roddey; two sons, Jack Roddey of Rock Hill and J.G. Richards Roddey of Kiawah; his daughter, Bettie Gatewood Roddey Kistler of the home; six grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Oakland Avenue Presbyterian Church or to the Mountain Retreat Association, Montreat, NC 28757.

Margaret Woods

ROCK HILL - Mrs. Margaret Wilkinson Woods, 84, of 624 Meadowbrook Lane died Wednesday, March 10, 1999, at Westminster Healthcare Center.

A memorial service will be 2 p.m. Saturday at Oakland Avenue Presbyterian Church, with the Rev. Dr. William C. Pender officiating.

A native of Durham, N.C., Mrs. Woods was the daughter of the late Albert and Ollie Jeffreys Wilkinson. She attended Duke University and was the executive secretary to the president of Erwin Mills in Durham, N.C. Before her retirement, she was the office manager of her husband's law firm, Woods and Woods Attorneys. She was a member of Oakland Avenue Presbyterian Church.

Surviving are her husband, John Oates Woods; three sons, John O. Woods Jr. and Fred W. Woods, both of Alexandria, Va. and Henry T. Woods of Rock Hill; her daughter, Ann Woods Simpson of Rock Hill; her brother, Thomas N. Wilkinson of Durham, N.C.; and four grandchildren.

The family will receive friends from 6 to 9 tonight at the home of her daughter, Ann Woods Simpson, 626 Oakwood Lane, Rock Hill.

Memorials may be made to Oakland Avenue Presbyterian Church, 421 Oakland Ave., Rock Hill, SC 29730.

Maggie Elliott

LANCASTER - Mrs. Maggie Richardson Elliott, 92, of 958 15th St. died Friday, March 5, 1999, at home.

The funeral will be 2 p.m. Monday at Calvary Baptist Church, with Pastor Dr. Harold Owens officiating. Burial will follow at Lancaster Memorial Park.

She was the daughter of the late Mr. Willie Richardson and Mrs. Mary Jordan Richardson. She was the widow of Mr. Ellie Lee Elliott Sr. Mrs. Elliott retired from Springs Industries in Lancaster, where she worked in the cloth room department. She was a member of the Calvary Baptist Church.

Surviving are three sons, Cecil Elliott of Lancaster, A.W. Elliott of Pageland and Mr. Lavon Elliott of Liberty Hill; her sister, Mildred Lewallen of Hopewell, Va.; 12 grandchildren; and 24 great-grandchildren.

The family will receive friends from 7 to 9 p.m. today at Hartley Funeral Home, 1800 Charlotte Highway, Lancaster.

Memorials may be made to Calvary Baptist Church, 100 Barron, Blvd., Lancaster, SC 29730.

Dennis Glass

ROCK HILL - Mr. Dennis Bradley Glass, 58, of 615 Rutledge Ave. died Saturday, March 6, 1999, at home.

A memorial service will be 11 a.m. Monday at Westminster Presbyterian Church, with Dr. Shelton Sanford and the Rev. Joe Coulter officiating. Burial will be at 10:30 a.m. Monday at Laurelwood Cemetery.

Mr. Glass was a customer service engineer at Storage Technology and a graduate of Virginia Polytechnic Institute. He was a member of Westminster Presbyterian Church.

Surviving are his wife, Lucille Barnes Glass; his mother, Wilma Dennis Glass of Black Mountain, N.C.; his brother, Hubert Ray Glass of Asheville, N.C.; his stepson, Frank Marshall of Rock Hill; his stepdaughter, Mary Sanders Lazenby, both of Rock Hill; and his grandchild.

The family will receive friends in the home.

Memorials may be made to Hospice Community Care, 325 S. Oakland Ave., Rock Hill, SC 29730.

Nannie Rosebrough

CHESTER - Mrs. Nannie Rosebrough died Thursday, March 4, 1999, at the White Oak Manor Nursing Home in Rock Hill.

The funeral will be 3 p.m. Monday at Zion Pilgrim Baptist Church, with the Rev. Curtis Washington officiating. Burial will be at the church cemetery.

Mrs. Rosebrough was a member of the Zion Pilgrim Baptist Church, where she served as a missionary. She was the widow of Will Rosebrough.

Surviving are two cousins, Alma Pendergrass Wilkes and Wilson Pendergrass, both of the Wilksburg community.

The body may be viewed from 1 to 9 p.m. today at Christopher King's Funeral Home at 703 Old York Road in Chester.

The family will receive friends at the home of Alma Wilkes and Wilson Pendergrass at 3903 Woodrow Drive.
