James Spears

ROCK HILL - Mr. James Franklin "Curley" Spears, 72, of 952 McDow Drive died Sunday, March 7, 1999, at Piedmont Medical Center.

A graveside service will be 11 a.m. Wednesday at Grandview Memorial Park, with the Rev. Dr. Tommy Huddleston officiating.

A native of Charlotte, Mr. Spears was the son of the late James J. and Flora Mullis Spears. He was a member of Catawba Baptist Church and retired from the U.S. Post Office after 25 years. He was a member of the Masonic Lodge No. 385, Scottish Rites, Charlotte and Hejaz, Greenville. He was a member of Crescent Shrine Club, American Legion Post No. 34 and Veterans of Foreign Wars.

Surviving are his wife, Virginia Steele Spears; his son, James W. Spears of Rock Hill; his daughter, Sondra S. Blackwell of Rock Hill; two sisters, Joyce Champion of Matthews, N.C., and Peggy Outen of Mint Hill, N.C.; and four grandchildren.

The family will receive friends from 7 to 9 tonight at Greene Funeral and at other times at home.

Memorials may be made to Shriners Hospital for Crippled Children, 950 W. Faris St., Greenville, SC 29605.

Clarence Tate

ROCK HILL - Mr. Clarence Allen Tate, 80, of 130 Shurley St. died Monday, March 8, 1999 at home.

Arrangements will be announced by Greene Funeral Home.

Nancy Valentine

ROCK HILL - Mrs. Nancy Letha Tilley Valentine, 99, died Monday, March 8, 1999, at Beverly Health Care.

A graveside service will be 3 p.m. Wednesday at Oakwood Municipal Cemetery in High Point, N.C.

A native of High Point, N.C., Mrs. Valentine was a homemaker. She was a member of West End Baptist Church in High Point.

Surviving are her son, Grayson R. Davis of High Point; and her granddaughter, Teresa A. Bergeron of Rock Hill.

The family will receive friends from 1:30 to 2:30 p.m. Wednesday at Cumby Mortuary in High Point.

York Funeral Home is in charge of local arrangements.

Viola Archie

CHESTER - Mrs. Viola Archie, formerly of 3054 Pinckney Road in the Wilksburg Community, died Monday, March 8, 1999, at White Oak Manor Nursing Home in Rock Hill.

Funeral arrangements will be announced by Christopher King's Funeral Home, 703 Old York Road.

The family will be at the home of Tommie Gore, 3054 Pinckney Road, Wilksburg Community.

Andrew Barber

ROCK HILL - Andrew M. Barber, the infant son of Michael and Tiffany Hill Barber of 1929 Williford Road, died Tuesday, March, 9, 1999, at home.

Arrangements will be announced by Greene Funeral Home.

Thomas Burds

LANCASTER, Texas - Mr. Thomas Michael Burds, 49, died Sunday, Feb. 21, 1999.

The funeral was in Lancaster, Texas, in February.

Mr. Burds was employed for a number of years at Ford Motor Co. in Dearborn, Mich., and served in Vietnam.

Surviving are his wife, Peggy Bauman; his son, Randall Scott Burds of Dallas; his daughter, Shannon Goulet Burds of Garden City, Mich.; his mother and stepfather, Faith and George Somers Sr. of Rock Hill; three brothers, Robert Burds of Dallas, Jeffrey Burds of New York and Timothy Burds of Rock Hill; three sisters, Sandra Chapp of Fort Worth, Texas, Susan Burds of Rock Hill and Christine Butler of South Lyons, Mich.; and his grandchild.

Byrum Funeral Home was in charge.

Dennis Eubanks

BLACKSBURG - Mr. Dennis "Duck" Neil Eubanks, 46, of 707 Burt Mill Road died Sunday, March 7, 1999, in Moncks Corner.

The funeral will be 11 a.m. Thursday at McLean-Bumgardner Funeral Home in Belmont, N.C., with the Rev. Roger Franklin officiating. Burial will be 3 p.m. Thursday at Lancaster Memorial Park.

A native of Monroe, N.C., he was the son of the late Hazel and Evelyn Broadway Eubanks. He was an Air Force veteran and served as an air policeman during the Vietnam War. He was employed by Suitt Construction Co. as an electrician and was a member of American Legion Post 243 in Bessemer City, N.C.

Surviving are his wife, Sandra Hooper Eubanks; and his son, Peter Eubanks of Boone.

The family will receive friends from 7 to 8:30 tonight at McLean-Bumgardner Funeral Home.

Michael Heath Sr.

FORT LAWN - Mr. Michael Heath Sr., 46, of 5964 Hightower Road died Saturday, March 6, 1999.

The funeral will be 2 p.m. Friday at Union Ezell AME Zion Church, with the Rev. William N. Long officiating. Burial will be at Fort Lawn Cemetery.

Mr. Heath was an employee of the South Carolina State Fair. He was a member of Union Ezell AME Zion Church.

Surviving are his wife, Alice R. Heath; his son, Michael Heath Jr. of the home; his daughter, Cammie M. Heath of the home; his parents, Max and Jesse Heath of Fort Lawn; two brothers, Calvin Heath of Columbia and Alfonso Heath of Fort Lawn; and four sisters, Shirley Judge, Myrtle Heath, Linda Howze and Mary Artis, all of Fort Lawn.

The family will receive friends from 7 to 7:30 p.m. Thursday at Union Ezell AME Zion Church.

The body may be viewed from 9 a.m. to noon Friday at McMullen Funeral Home in Lancaster and will be placed in the church at 1 p.m. Friday.

Maurice Dixon

SPARTANBURG - Maurice Roddey Dixon, 90, of Magnolia Manor in Spartanburg died Tuesday, Oct. 20, 1998, at Spartanburg Regional Medical Center.

The funeral will be 3 p.m. Thursday at Lando Cemetery, with the Rev. Bill Thrailkill officiating.

Mrs. Dixon was born in Chester County. She was retired from Monetta Mill in Lando and was a member of Heath Memorial United Methodist Church.

She was the widow of Cecil L. Dixon.

Surviving are two sons, C. Adell Dixon of Lugoff and Russell L. Dixon of Spartanburg; her daughter, Marcella Williams of Saluda; 11 grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren.

The family will receive friends from 7 to 8:30 tonight at Barron Funeral Home in Chester.

Memorials may be made to Spartanburg Regional Medical Center Hospice, 120 Heyward Ave., Spartanburg, SC 29302.
