George Simpson

SHARON - Mr. George Simpson, 59, of 1938 N. Burris Road died Thursday, Oct. 22, 1998, at Piedmont Medical Center in Rock Hill.

The funeral will be 3 p.m. Sunday at St. Luke No. 1 Baptist Church, with the Rev. A.A. Bankhead officiating. Burial will be at the church cemetery.

A native of Chester County, Mr. Simpson was a member of St. Luke No. 1 Baptist Church.

Surviving are three daughters, Brighty Wade and Teresa Wade, both of York, and Michelle Smarr of the home; his son, David Smarr of the home; four stepsons, James Smarr, Johnny Smarr, Grady Smarr and Jimmy Smarr, all of Rock Hill; seven brothers, Gary Simpson, Teddy Simpson, Robert Simpson, all of Sharon, Donnie Simpson and Jesse Simpson, both of York, Tony Simpson of Rock Hill and Steve Simpson of Seattle, Wash; four sisters, Mattie Good of Filbert, Maggie Simpson of York, Betty Hinton of Sharon and Annie Jamison of Winston-Salem, N.C.; and eight grandchildren.

The family will receive friends at the home of his daughter, Brighty Wade, 403 Ridgewood Lane, York.

The body may be viewed from noon to 8 p.m. today at Wright Funeral Home.

The body will placed in the church at 2 p.m. Sunday.

William Bailey

GREAT FALLS - Mr. William Heath "Billy" Bailey, 34, of 18 Center St. died Friday, Oct. 23, 1998, in Ben Hill County, Ga.

Funeral arrangements will be announced by Wright's Home for Funerals in Chester.

Mr. Bailey, a Chester County native, was a carpenter.

Surviving are two sons, William H. Bailey Jr. and Raymond Lewis Bailey, both of Lancaster; his father, Bobby G. Bailey of Lancaster; his mother and stepfather, Nancy and Robert Stevenson of Great Falls; and five brothers, Mike Bailey of Chester and Bobby Bailey, Henry K. Stevenson, Robert L. Stevenson, and James Stevenson, all of Great Falls.

Jesse Brackett Sr.

STAFFORD, Va. - Mr. Jesse Donald Brackett Sr., 61, formerly of Rock Hill, died Friday, Oct. 23, 1998, at Mary Washington Hospital.

The funeral will be Tuesday at Mullins & Thompson Funeral Home in Fredericksburg, Va.

The family will receive friends from 7 to 8:30 tonight at Mullins & Thompson.

Memorials may be made to the American Diabetes Association.

Brenda Butler

WASHINGTON - Mrs. Brenda Kennedy Butler of 3344 Alabama Ave., S.E., died Thursday, Oct. 22, 1998, at George Washington Hospital.

The funeral will be 11 a.m. Wednesday at Our Lady of Consolation Catholic Church, 1600 Morris St., S.E., Washington, DC 20003. Burial will be in Washington.

Robinson Funeral Home is in charge of local arrangements.

Tommy Douglas

ROCK HILL - Mr. Tommy "Tom" Douglas of 237 Clinton St. died Saturday, Oct. 24, 1998, at Ebenezer Nursing Home.

Funeral arrangements will be announced by Robinson Funeral Home.

Vernon Howle

LANCASTER - Mr. Vernon DeWitt Howle, 64, of 679 Bailey Road died Saturday, Oct. 24, 1998, at his home.

The funeral will be 3 p.m. Tuesday at Covenant Baptist Church, with Dr. Bert Welch, and the Revs. Stuart Snow and Brooks Walker officiating. Burial will be at Lancaster Memorial Park.

A native of Chesterfield County, Mr. Howle retired from Springs Industries' Grace Finishing Plant as dye manager. He was a member of Rich Hill Baptist Church and American Legion Post. No. 31, where he was involved with the Christmas Basket Fund and Fair. He was a Navy veteran of the Korean War.

Surviving are his wife, Carol Outen Howle; two sons, Michael Laverne Howle and Robert Colan Howle, both of Lancaster; four brothers, Emmitt Howle of Patrick, George Colan Howle Jr. of Lancaster, Richard Howle of Salisbury, N.C., and Tycho Howle of Atlanta; three sisters, Inez Rawls and Elaine Vaughn, both of Lancaster, and Juanita Johnson of Westville; and his granddaughter.

The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 tonight at Hartley Funeral Home.

Memorials may be made to Covenant Baptist Church building fund, 165 Craig Manor Road, Lancaster, SC 29720.

James D. Simpson

RIDGEWAY - Mr. James D. Simpson, 79, of Belfield Road, formerly of Rock Hill, died Saturday, Oct. 24, 1998, at Fairfield Memorial Hospital in Winnsboro.

The funeral will be 11 a.m. Tuesday at Greene Funeral Home. Burial will be at Oakwood Cemetery in Concord, N.C.

Mr. Simpson was a retired painter and independent salesman who lived in Florida for many years. He was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II and was of the Protestant faith.

Surviving are two sons David J. Simpson Jr. of Chester and Charles R. Simpson of Rock Hill; his sister, Evelyn Vittorelli of Greensboro, N.C.; nine grandchildren; and his grandchild.

The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 tonight at Greene Funeral Home and at other times at the home of Frances Lucas, 902 Eastwood Drive, Rock Hill, SC 29730.

Memorials may be made to Point Man Ministries, P.O. Box 11124 Columbia, SC 29211.
