Bessie Stroud

ROCK HILL - Mrs. Bessie Hall Stroud, 95, of 1463 Craig Road died Monday, March 1, 1999, at Beverly Health Care Center.

A graveside service will be 2 p.m. today at Grandview Memorial Park, with the Rev. Jerry Devinney officiating.

A native of Winchester, Tenn., Mrs. Stroud was the widow of Richard L. Stroud. She was a weaver in the textile industry and a member of Oakdale Baptist Church.

Surviving are her son, Douglas Stroud of Chester; her sister, Flo Belle Drawdy of Great Falls; five grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.

Bass Funeral Home is in charge.

Carolyn Wilks

ROCK HILL - Ms. Carolyn Jean Wilks, 37, of 122 E. Moore St. died Friday, Feb. 26, 1999, at Piedmont Medical Center in Rock Hill.

The funeral will be 3 p.m. Thursday at Galilee Baptist Church in York, with the Rev. W.E. Garrison officiating. Burial will be at the church cemetery.

Ms. Wilks was a member of Galilee Baptist Church in York.

Surviving are 11 sisters, Anna L. Sims, Rebecca W. Love, Mary Louise Hardin, Maggie J. Ratchford and Lillie Bell Ratchford, all of York, Martha Judge, Cynthia Ann Wilks, Pud Floyd and Dot McCoy, all of Rock Hill, and Maggie Hemphill and Pauline Wilks, both of Long Island City, N.Y.; two brothers, Codell Alexander Wilks of Long Island City, N.Y., and Victor M. Wilks of York.

The body may be viewed from 6 to 8 p.m. today at Wright Funeral Home in York.

The body will be placed in the church at 2 p.m. Thursday.

Marion Adkins

ROCK HILL - Mr. Marion Ervin Adkins, 86, of 350 Pickens St. died Wednesday, Feb. 24, 1999, at Piedmont Medical Center.

The funeral will be 2 p.m. Friday at Bethesda Presbyterian Church, with the Rev. Tony Dick officiating. Burial will be at Grandview Memorial Park.

Born in York County, Mr. Adkins was a welder at Rock Hill Body Co. and was a lifetime member and elder at Bethesda Presbyterian Church. He was a Shriner and a member of Masonic Lodge No. 111.

Surviving is his brother, Bill Adkins of Rock Hill.

The family will receive friends from 7 to 9 tonight at Bass Funeral Home and at other times at the home.

Memorials may be made to the Bethesda Presbyterian Church cemetery fund, 1840 McConnells Highway, York, SC 29745.

Gerald Beck Sr.

ROCK HILL - Mr. Gerald "Jerry" Leon Beck Sr., 57, of 1908 Reservation Road died Tuesday, Feb. 23, 1999, at home.

The funeral will be 2 p.m. Friday at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints, Catawba Ward, with Bishop Pieter Reynders officiating. Burial will be at the church cemetery.

Mr. Beck was a retired industrial insulator. He was a Navy veteran, a member of Frank Roach American Legion Post 34, Asbestos Local No. 72 in Greensboro, N.C., and the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints, Catawba Ward. Mr. Beck was the son of Margaret Helen Canty Beck and the late Samuel J. Beck.

Surviving in addition to his mother are three sons, Randall Scott Beck and Gerald L. Beck Jr., both of Rock Hill, and Tony L. Beck of Columbia; two brothers, Samuel M. Beck and Roderick N. Beck, both of Rock Hill; two sisters, Phyllis B. Williams of Rock Hill and Shasta B. Troxel of Richland Center, Wis.; three grandchildren; and his companion, Debbie McCormick of Rock Hill.

The family will receive friends at home.

Memorials may be made to Hospice Community Care, 325 S. Oakland Ave., Rock Hill, SC 29730.

Richard Blackburn Jr.

ROCK HILL - Mr. Richard Blackburn Jr., 80, of 2211 Farlow St. died Thursday, Feb. 18, 1999, at his home.

The funeral will be 1 p.m. Friday at Word is Life Temple, with the Rev. Dr. Michael Spenser officiating and the Rev. Jason Jenkins assisting. Burial will be at Barber Memorial Cemetery.

Mr. Blackburn was employed for 25 years at Leake & Watts Children's Home in Yonkers, N.Y., as a maintenance man. He was a member of Rainbow Higher Dimension, where he was a deacon. He attended New York public schools.

Surviving are his wife, Viola B. Blackburn; two daughters, Elzina Pickett of Hawley, Pa., and Gwendolyn Housey of Yonkers; and six grandchildren.

The body may be viewed from 2 to 6 tonight at Parker Funeral Home.

The family will receive friends from 7 to 8 tonight at Solid Rock Going Forth Ministries and at other times at the home.

The body will be placed in the church at noon Friday.

Theadora Dabney

ROCK HILL - Mrs. Theadora "Teddy" Dabney, 72, of 791 Rabun Lane died Wednesday, Feb. 24, 1999, at home.

The funeral will be 11 a.m. Friday at First Baptist Church, with the Rev. Dr. Sollie Hicks and the Rev. Ray Long officiating. Burial will be at Grandview Memorial Park.

A native of Winchester, Va., Mrs. Dabney was the daughter of the late Ernest and Nora Smallwood McIntyre. She retired from the quality control department of Hoechst Celanese after 37 years. She was a member of First Baptist Church, where she was a former Sunday school teacher and Royal Ambassadors and Girls in Action director. She was a past member of the PTA at Northside Elementary School.

Surviving are her husband, Leroy C. Dabney Sr.; two sons, Leroy C. Dabney of Fort Mill and Frank S. Dabney of Charleston; two daughters, Dianna Helfrich of Greenwood and Margaret D. Johnson of Rock Hill; two brothers, Eugene McIntyre of Virginia Beach, Va., and Richard McIntyre of Winchester, Va.; and seven grandchildren.

The family will receive friends from 7 to 9 tonight at Bass Funeral Home and at other times at home.

Memorials may be made to First Baptist Church Forward by Faith Building Fund, 215 E. Main St., Rock Hill, SC 29730 or Hospice Community Care, 325 S. Oakland Ave., Rock Hill, SC 29730.

Crayton Foster

YORK - Mr. Crayton Luther "Boe" Foster, 66, of 3437 Hands Mill Road died Wednesday, Feb. 24, 1999, at Piedmont Medical Center in Rock Hill.

A graveside service will be 2 p.m. Friday at Mount Paran Baptist Church cemetery, with the Rev. Darrell Revels officiating.

A native of Cherokee County, Mr. Foster was the son of the late Tom and Entes Padgett Foster. He was a member of Mount Paran Baptist Church in Blacksburg.

Surviving are his son, Crayton L. "Boe" Foster Jr. of Blacksburg; his daughter, Tonnie F. Fowler of Gaffney; two sisters, Grace F. Wilson of Blacksburg and Frances F. Runyan of Earl, N.C.; and his grandchild.

The family will receive friends after the service and at other times at the home of his daughter, 123 Shrine Club Road, Gaffney, and at the home of his sister, 360 White's Farm Road, Blacksburg.

Memorials may be made to Mount Paran Baptist Church parsonage fund, 105 Mount Paran Road, Blacksburg, SC 29702.
