Alice Neely

YORK - Mrs. Alice Walker Neely, 75, of 962 Longleaf Road died Sunday, Feb. 21, 1999, at Piedmont Medical Center in Rock Hill.

The funeral will be 3 p.m. Thursday at Galilee Baptist Church, with the Rev. Willie Garrison officiating. Burial will be at the church cemetery.

Mrs. Neely was a member of Galilee Baptist Church and a retired domestic worker.

Surviving are three daughters, Geraldine Wilmore and Maggie Hemphill, both of York, and Angela Neely of Chester; five sons, James Neely, Bobby Neely, Willie Neely and Jerry Neely Jr., all of York, and Albert Neely of Clover; two sisters, Ida Harris of Rock Hill and Maggie Gunnings of New York; 33 grandchildren; and 43 great-grandchildren.

The body may be viewed from 4 to 7 p.m. today at Thompson Funeral Home. The body will be placed in the church at 1 p.m. Thursday.

The family will receive friends at home.

Billie Philbert

FORT MILL - Mrs. Billie C. Philbert, 90, of 145 Cedar Hollow South died Saturday, Feb. 20, 1999, at Mercy Hospital South.

A memorial service will be 2 p.m. today at Living Vine Church, with the Rev. Ben Byrd officiating. Burial will follow at Grand View Memorial Park in Dunbar, W.Va.

Mrs. Philbert was a Putman County, W.Va., native. She was retired from the outdoor amusement industry. Mrs. Philbert moved to Heritage USA in 1987, from Tampa, Fla.

Surviving are her son, Arnie "Dick" Wilkinson of Lakeview; seven grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren.

Jake Price Sr.

GREAT FALLS - Mr. Jake Price Sr., 59, died Friday, Feb. 19, 1999, at home.

The funeral will be 2 p.m. today at Paradise AME Zion Church, with the Rev. J.E. Long officiating. Burial will be at St. Paul Baptist Church in the Halsevile Community in Chester.

A native of Chester, Mr. Price was retired from the S.C. State Highway Department and was a member of Paradise AME Zion Church.

Surviving are his wife, Bobbie Jean Boulware Price of the home; four sons, Leon Price of Great Falls, Terry Price of the home, Jake Price of Lancaster and Vernon Price of Great Falls; three daughters, Betty Brown of Lancaster, Teresa Price of the home and Janice Price of Great Falls; two brothers, Kevin McNeil of Chester and Peter McNeil of the Bronx, N.Y.; his sister, Mary Wright of Chester; his special friend, Willie Dooley of Great Falls; and 16 grandchildren.

The family will receive friends from 7 to 9 p.m. today at Washington Funeral Home in Great Falls.

Lewis Sims

HEATH SPRINGS - Mr. Lewis Edward "Luke" Sims, 81, of 4729 Hula Drive in the Fork Hill Community died Sunday, Feb. 21, 1999, at Springs Memorial Hospital.

The funeral will be 4 p.m. today at White Bluff Baptist Church, with the Revs. James Helms and Coit Auten officiating. Burial will be at the church cemetery.

Mr. Sims was a retired supervisor from Grace Bleachery. He was the son of the late James Edward Sims and Mollie Mackey Sims. He was a member of White Bluff Baptist Church, where he was a deacon and member of the Young at Heart Adult Group.

Surviving are his wife, Mae Robinson Sims; his son, Jim "Luke" Sims of the home; his daughter, Jane Sims Neisler of Heath Springs; three grandchildren; and his great-grandchild.

Memorials may be made to White Bluff Baptist Church, 3125 Duckwood Road, Kershaw, SC 29067.

Helene Stenek

ROCK HILL - Mrs. Helene J. Stenek (Zdenek), 84, of 752 Harrell St. died Friday, Feb. 19, 1999, in Chicago.

The funeral will be at Strang Funeral Chapel, 410 E. Belvidere, Grayslake, Ill. Burial will be at Woodlawn Cemetery, Forest Park, Ill.

Mrs. Stenek was the widow of Joseph B. Zbenek.

Surviving are her son, Joseph W. Zdenek and his wife Connie of Rock Hill; seven grandchildren; and 11 great-grandchildren.

John Alexander

ROCK HILL - Mr. John W. Alexander, 84, of 1250 Hands Mill Highway died Monday, Feb. 22, 1999, at home.

A graveside service will be 4 p.m. today at Allison Creek Presbyterian Church Cemetery, with the Rev. Alan Arnold officiating.

Mr. Alexander was a member of Allison Creek Presbyterian Church and was a medic for the Army in World War II. He was retired from Rock Hill Printing & Finishing Co. A native of York County, he was the son of the late Robert and Bessie Kiser Alexander.

Surviving are his wife, Edna C. Alexander; two sons, Billy Alexander of Rock Hill and Terry Alexander of Gray Court; his daughter, Patsy Parker of Rock Hill; his brother, Lewis Alexander of Lake Wylie; and his grandchild.

The family will receive friends at home.

Greene Funeral Home is in charge.

Marie Barnett

ROCK HILL - The funeral for Mrs. Marie Thompson Barnett, who died Friday, July 24, 1998, at White Oak Manor, will be 3 p.m. today at Flint Hill Baptist Church, with the Rev. John Brown officiating.

The Revs. Osbey Roddey, J.H. Bailey and Paul Long will assist. The eulogy will be given by the Rev. W.B. White. Burial will be at Barber Memorial Cemetery.

Mrs. Barnett was a native of York County and attended its public schools. She was a member of Flint Hill Baptist Church, where she was a member of the Usher Board, Choir No. 1, Willing Workers Club and the Missionary Society. She was a volunteer for York County's summer feeding program and was a member of the White Hill Chapter Order of the Eastern Star Lodge No. 350.

Surviving are her husband, Johnny Lee Barnett of Clover; five sons, Sam L. Thompson Jr., Willie Lee Thompson, Bobby Eugene Thompson and Vernon Thompson, all of Rock Hill, and Freddie Lavern Thompson of Cary, N.C.; two daughters, Lelia T. Settles Brown of Matthews, N.C., and Ethel Thompson Knox of Rock Hill; her stepdaughter, Geraldine B. Durham of Clover; two sisters, Nancy Hardin of Baltimore and Essie Gaines of Rozelle, N.J.; 12 grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren.

The body will be placed in the church at 1 p.m. today. Robinson Funeral Home is in charge.
