Laura Hughes

FORT MILL - Ms. Laura "Dolly" Hinson Hughes, 46, of 404 Morgan St. died Monday, Feb. 22, 1999, at Integrated Health Services in Charlotte.

The funeral will be 11 a.m. Thursday at Wolfe Funeral Home, with the Rev. Chris Ruppe officiating. Burial will be at Unity Cemetery.

A native of York County, Ms. Hughes was the daughter of Peggy Hinson and the late Joseph Hinson. She was employed with Eslon Thermoplastics in Pineville, N.C.

Surviving are three sons, Ron Hughes of York, David Hughes of Rock Hill and Phillip Hughes of Fort Mill; two daughters, Donna Hughes of Belmont, N.C., and Patti Mott of Rock Hill; four brothers, Wayne Hinson of Pineville, Cecil Hinson of Lancaster, Marion Hinson and Jackie Hinson, both of Fort Mill; and nine grandchildren.

The family will receive friends from 7 to 9 tonight at Wolfe Funeral Home and at other times at home.

Memorials may be made to Hospice Community Care, 325 S. Oakland Ave., Rock Hill, SC 29730 or to the American Cancer Society, 500 E. Morehead St., Suite 211, Charlotte, NC 28202.

Ruth Sutton

LANCASTER - Mrs. Ruth W. Sutton, 79, of Lancaster died Tuesday, Feb. 23, 1999, at Springs Memorial Hospital.

The funeral will be 2 p.m. Thursday at Cross Roads Baptist Church, with the Revs. Frank Jolly and Chuck Griffin officiating. Burial will be at Lakeland Memorial Park.

A native of Rock Hill, Mrs. Sutton was the daughter of the late Lloyd Oscar and Bessie Mullinax Wallace. She was the widow of William Conley Sutton.

Surviving are her son, Dennis R. Sutton of Lancaster; her daughter, Joyce S. Rainey of Lancaster; her brother, John Wesley Wallace of Monroe, N.C.; her sister, Louise W. Little of Monroe, N.C.; nine grandchildren; 18 great-grandchildren; and her great-great-grandchild.

The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 tonight at the home of Louise Little, 209 Altan Woods Road, Monroe, N.C.

McEwen Funeral Home of Monroe, Colonial Chapel, is in charge.

Benjamin Watkins Jr.

ROCK HILL - Mr. Benjamin Cleveland Watkins Jr., 75, of 1661 Celanese Road died Monday, Feb. 22, 1999, at Piedmont Medical Center.

The funeral will be 3 p.m. today at Hopewell Presbyterian Church, with the Rev. Mike Black officiating. Burial will be at the church cemetery.

A native of the Lesslie Community, Mr. Watkins was the son of the late Benjamin C. and Inez Garris Watkins Sr. He was a member of Hopewell Presbyterian Church, where he was an elder, Sunday school teacher and choir member. He served in the Army during World War II as a squad leader in France and Germany. He retired from Springs Mills, Grace Bleachery, after 37 years.

Surviving are his wife, Emily Culp Watkins; two daughters, Rhonda W. Huffman and Pamela W. Self, both of Lancaster; his stepson, Donald E. Moore of Rock Hill; his brother, W. Calvin Watkins of Rock Hill; three sisters, Jessie W. Rodgers and Helen W. Jenkins, both of Rock Hill, and Mildred W. Williams of Spartanburg; five grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.

The family will be at home.

Memorials may be made to Hopewell Presbyterian Church cemetery fund, 1571 S. Anderson Road, Rock Hill, SC 29730.

Leonard Worthy

CARLISLE - Mr. Leonard "Hog Head" Worthy of 5511 Woods Ferry Road died Thursday, Feb. 18, 1999, at Wallace Thomson Hospital in Union.

The funeral will be 2 p.m. Thursday at Zion Pilgrim Baptist Church, with the Rev. Daniel Chisholm officiating and the Revs. W.W. Thompson, A.A. Bankhead, Vernon Worthy, Danny Grier, James Goods, O.L. Smith, George Lowery, J.D. McClurkin and Curtis Washington assisting. Burial with Masonic Rites will be at Fairview Baptist Church cemetery.

Mr. Worthy was educated in Chester County public schools. He was chairman of the deacon board and choir leader of Fairview Baptist Church. He was a member of Burning Bush Masonic Lodge No. 186, AP&B Society, Disabled Textile Workers and president of the Young Men's Club.

Surviving are his wife, Dorothy C. Worthy; three sons, Reginald Worthy and Jimmy Worthy, both of the home, and Ambrose Carter of Charlotte; his daughter, Lyntonia Worthy of the home; two brothers, Johnny Worthy and Jessie Worthy, both of Carlisle; two sisters, Louise Carter and Mary Peay, both of Wilmington, Del.; seven grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.

The body can be viewed from 1 to 9 tonight at Christopher King's Funeral Home, 703 Old York Road.

The body will be taken to the church at 1 p.m. Thursday.

The family will receive friends at home.

G.W. Barber

BRONX, N.Y. - Mr. G.W. Barber of 737 Commonwealth Ave., formerly of Rock Hill, died Monday, Feb. 15, 1999, at Cabrini Hospital in New York.

The funeral will be 11:30 a.m. Friday at McCalls Funeral Home, 4035 Brontwood Ave., with the Rev. Robertson officiating. Burial will be at Woodlawn Cemetery.

Surviving are his wife, Sallie Barber; his son, Arthur Barber of Bronx; his daughter, Lucille Mallory of Bronx; his brother, Harry Barber of Washington; his sister, Rita Jordan of Rock Hill; and two grandchildren.

The family will receive friends from 4 to 9 tonight at McCalls Funeral Home.

Robinson Funeral Home is in charge of local arrangements.

Ira Caskey Jr.

LANCASTER - Mr. Ira B. Caskey Jr., 77, of 2250 New Cut Circle died Tuesday, Feb. 16, 1999, at Springs Memorial Hospital.

The funeral will be 2 p.m. today at New Cut Presbyterian Church, with the Revs. Wayne Dickson and Joel Rhyner officiating. Burial will be at the church cemetery.

Mr. Caskey was a retired employee of Springs Industries and owner and operator of Caskey's Exterminating. He was a member of New Cut Presbyterian Church and was the widower of Myrtle Jernigan Caskey.

Surviving are his daughter, Sheila Ann Denton of Lancaster; his brother, Clarence Caskey of Rock Hill; his sister, Ruth Blanks of Lancaster; and his grandchild.

Memorials may be made to New Cut Presbyterian Church, 2617 New Cut Church Road, Lancaster, SC 29720 or to Eastside Baptist Church, 1180 Garnette Road, Lancaster, SC 29720.

ROCK HILL - Mr. A.W. Durham of 946 Albert St. died Tuesday, Feb. 16, 1999, at home.

Funeral arrangements will be announced by Robinson Funeral Home.
