John Griffin

FORT MILL - Mr. John Parks Griffin, 66, of 1039 Cecil Jones Road died Thursday, Aug. 13, 1998, at Piedmont Medical Center in Rock Hill.

The funeral will be 2 p.m. Monday at the Fort Mill Church of God, with the Rev. David Kemp officiating. Burial will be at Grandview Memorial Park.

Mr. Griffin was retired from Rexham Paper Corp. in Pineville, N.C., and was a member of Fort Mill Church of God. He served in the U.S. Army in the Korean War and served 12 years in the National Guard. He was a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars Post No. 9138.

Surviving are his wife, Ora "Daisie" Griffin; two sons, Jerry St. Clair of Fort Mill and David St. Clair of Rock Hill; five daughters, Reba Kieck and Tricia Gillespie, both of Gastonia, Johnnie Mae Pittman, Mary Griffin and Kathy Griffin, all of Fort Mill; five brothers, Pete Griffin, Dillon Griffin, Carl Wayne Griffin and Jim Griffin, all of Monroe, N.C., and Louie Griffin of Fort Mill; three sisters, Mary Massey of Fort Mill, Josephine Richardson of Alton, N.C., and Rachel Lyles of Monroe, N.C.; and five grandchildren.

The family will receive friends from 7 to 9 p.m. Sunday at Wolfe Funeral Home and at other times at the home of Mary Griffin, 125 Web Mills Road, Fort Mill, SC 29715.

Memorials may be made to the American Liver Foundation, 1425 Pompton Ave., Cedar Grove, NJ 29715.

Shirley Hindman

FORT LAWN - Mrs. Shirley Robertson Hindman, 86, of 6081 Hindman Road died Friday, Aug. 14, 1998, at Magnolia Manor in Columbia.

The funeral will be 4 p.m. Sunday at El Bethel United Methodist Church, with the Revs. Curtis Wells and John Rumford officiating. Burial will be at the church cemetery.

Mrs. Hindman was a homemaker and member of El Bethel United Methodist Church. She was the widow of Clyde Judson Hindman Sr.

Surviving are three daughters, Joye H. Broome and Hazel H. Burrows, both of Columbia, and Gloria Ann Clements of Camden; three sons, Clyde Judson Hindman Jr. and William Hindman, both of Fort Lawn, and John Earl Hindman of Catawba; his brother, James A. Robertson of Melrose, Fla.; his sister, Maudie Aveyard of Jacksonville, Fla.; 16 grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; and three great-great-grandchildren.

The family will receive friends from 7 to 9 tonight at Mahaffey Funeral Home.

Thomas Horry III

ROCK HILL - The Rev. Thomas Elias "Tom" Horry III, 62, of 1007 S. Confederate Ave., formerly of Mount Pleasant, died Thursday, Aug. 13, 1998, at Piedmont Medical Center.

The funeral will be 2 p.m. Wednesday at Clinton Chapel AME Zion Church in York, with the Rev. S. Franklin Russell II officiating. Elder Lloyd Snipes will give the eulogy. Services will be Thursday at Friendship AME Zion Church in Mount Pleasant. Burial will be at Ocean View Cemetery in Mount Pleasant.

Surviving are four sons, George Brown of St. Marys, Ga., Thomas E. Horry IV of New York, Marion Brown of Mount Pleasant and Christopher Castle of York; five daughters, Angela Horry Beasley of Austell, Ga., F. Denise Horry of Columbia, Trina Felder of Trenton, N.J., Sheryl H. Brown of York and Consuelo Hoyles of Rock Hill; two brothers, Clarence Henry Horry of Romulus, Mich., and Robert C. Horry of Columbia; three sisters, Sallie G. Hilton and Jacquelyn Richardson, both of Mount Pleasant, and Vera L. Horry of New York; and 17 grandchildren.

The body may be viewed from 5 to 8 tonight at Wright Funeral Home in York.

The family will receive friends at the home, 1007 S. Confederate Ave., Rock Hill.

Frank Oates

CONCORD, N.C. - Mr. Frank Oates, 78, of Amber Drive died Thursday, Aug. 13, 1998, at home.

The funeral will be 2 p.m. Sunday at the First Church of God in Concord, with the Rev. David Lockhart officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery.

Surviving are his wife, the Rev. Mary Oates; his son, Donnie Oates of Concord; two daughters, Earlene Bost of Concord and Julia Powell of Charlotte; his brother, Johnny Oates of Baltimore; and five grandchildren.

Clark Funeral Home in Kannapolis, N.C., is in charge.

Wright Funeral Home in York is in charge of local arrangements.

Mae Saylors

FORT MILL - Mrs. Mae Eller Saylors, 77, of 9-A10 South White St. died Wednesday, Aug. 12, 1998, at Piedmont Medical Center in Rock Hill.

The funeral will be 11 a.m. today at Fort Mill Church of the Nazarene, with the Rev. Eugene Simpson officiating. Burial will be at Unity Cemetery.

Mrs. Saylors was a homemaker and for more than 55 years a member of the Fort Mill Church of the Nazarene, where she was a former Sunday school teacher. She was the widow of Hallmon Joel Saylors.

Surviving are her son, Dean Saylors of Lancaster; her daughter, Ola S. Trull of Rock Hill; her brother, Almon Eller of Clarksville, Ga.; four grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.

Memorials may be made to Fort Mill Church of the Nazarene, 109 Harris St., Fort Mill, SC 29715.

Green Funeral Home is in charge.

Hunter Summey

ROCK HILL - Hunter "Jordon" Summey, infant son of Gordon and Jean Summey III of 3129 Emerald Lane, died Friday, Aug. 14, 1998, at Carolinas Medical Center in Charlotte.

Surviving in addition to his parents are his paternal grandfather, Gordon Summey II of Spartanburg; his paternal grandmother, Billie L. Summey of Rock Hill; his paternal great-grandparents, Carlisle and Claire Lancaster of Rock Hill; his paternal great-grandmother, Rebecca Summey of Mullins; his maternal grandfather, Joseph Culp of Rock Hill; his maternal grandmother, Johnsie Robison of Rock Hill; and his maternal great-grandmother, Pansy Ratterree of Rock Hill.

Summer Jordan

ROCK HILL - Summer Michelle Jordan, the infant daughter of Chrystal Marie Ramey and Michael David Jordan, died Saturday, Feb. 14, 1999, at Piedmont Medical Center.

A graveside service will be 2 p.m. today at Independent Bible Baptist Church Cemetery, with the Rev. Jason Coley officiating.

Surviving in addition to her parents are her brother, Bryan Pettit Jr. of Fort Lawn; her paternal grandmother, Virginia Jordan of Fort Mill; her maternal grandparents, James Ramey and Christine Ramey of Chester; her paternal great-grandparents, David Jordan and Dora Lee Jordan of Fort Mill; and her great-grandmother, Rebecca Howe of Chester.

The family will receive friends at the church from 1 to 2 p.m. today, prior to the service.
