Helen Thomas

COLUMBIA - Mrs. Helen G. Thomas, 69, of Columbia, formerly of York County, died Monday, Feb. 15, 1999.

The memorial service will be 3 p.m. today at St. Michael and All Angels' Episcopal Church.

Surviving are her husband, E. Wade Thomas; her daughter, Kaye H. Gaddis of Columbia; her mother, Josephine Ellis Grainger of Laurens; two sisters, Anne G. Bolt of Cross Hill and Edna Guthrie of Plainfield, N.J.; and her grandson.

The family will receive friends at the church after the service.

Memorials may be made to the American Cancer Society.

Caughman-Harman Funeral Homes, Lexington Chapel, is in charge.

Lucille Washington

SALISBURY, N.C. - Mrs. Lucille Hill Washington of Salisbury, N.C., died Monday, Feb. 15, 1999, at Rowan Regional Medical Center.

Funeral arrangements will be announced by Robinson Funeral Home in Rock Hill.

Louise Wilks

YORK - Ms. Janie Louise Wilks, 77, of 119 Lowry Row died Monday, Feb. 15, 1999, at Magnolia Manor in Rock Hill.

Ms. Wilks was a native of Gastonia, N.C..

Funeral arrangements will be announced by Wright Funeral Home.

James Bennett

CHESTER - Mr. James "Jim" Louis Bennett, 41, of 881 Armory Road died Saturday, Feb. 6, 1999, in Albuquerque, N.M.

A memorial service will be 10 a.m. Saturday at York Funeral Home, with the Rev. Tom McPhail officiating.

Mr. Bennett was an Army veteran. He was a self-employed truck driver.

Surviving are his wife, Kristine Marie Bennett of Chester; two sons, Coby James Bennett and Shawn Michael Bennett, both of the home; his parents, Shirley and Bob Taylor of Amarillo, Texas, and Ralph and Henrietta Bennett of Indiana; four brothers, Ray Taylor, Charles Taylor and Tony Taylor, all of Amarillo, and Ralph Troy Bennett of Indiana; his sister, Rhonda Sue Robinson of Indiana; and his maternal grandmother, Marie Yelton of Amarillo.

The family will receive friends after the service.

Memorials may be made to the James Lewis Bennett Memorial Fund, c/o York Funeral Home, P.O. Box 59, York, SC 29745.

Vernon Culpepper

ROCK HILL - Mr. Vernon L. Culpepper, 68, of 230 Adams St. died Thursday, Feb. 11, 1999, at home.

A graveside service will be 3 p.m. Saturday at Laurelwood Cemetery, with the Rev. Gary Cooper officiating.

Mr. Culpepper was of the Baptist faith and was a retired self-employed concrete finisher.

Surviving are his caretaker, Violet Padgett Lee of the home; two sons, Ernie Culpepper of Brevard, N.C., and Vick Culpepper of Greenville; his brother, Charlie Culpepper of Greenville; six grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren.

The family will receive friends from 4 to 6 tonight at Greene Funeral Home.

William Edwards

ROCK HILL - Mr. William Davis Edwards, 70, of Rock Hill, died Thursday Feb. 11, 1999, at Piedmont Medical Center.

A memorial service will be 2 p.m. Saturday at Bass Funeral Home in Rock Hill, with the Rev. John Jenkins officiating.

A native of York County, Mr. Edwards was the owner and operator of Main Street Liquor. He was a member of Covenant Presbyterian Church and the Moose Lodge.

Surviving are his wife, Jean H. Faile; two sons, Steve T. Edwards and William R. Edwards, both of Rock Hill; two daughters, Rebecca Byrum of Rock Hill and Cynthia Reiter of Lakeland, Fla.; two brothers, Thomas Edwards of Rock Hill and Bobby Edwards of Waycross, Ga.; four sisters, Kathleen Nivens of Gastonia, N.C., Alice Scoggins, Ruby Cornwell and Hattie Bigger, all of Rock Hill; and 10 grandchildren.

Memorials may be made to the American Heart Association, 300 E. Henry St., Suite 101, Spartanburg, SC 29302-2630 or to Hospice Community Care, 325 S. Oakland Ave., Rock Hill, SC 29730.

The family will receive friends after the memorial service at Bass and an at the home of Thomas Edwards, 905 Ragin Lane, Rock Hill.

Ralph Gregory

CLINTON - Mr. Ralph W. Gregory, 54, of 97 Edgewood Drive died Tuesday, Feb. 9, 1999, at Laurens County Hospital.

The funeral will be 11 a.m. today at First Baptist Church of Clinton. Burial will be at Pinelawn Memory Gardens.

A native of Rock Hill, Mr. Gregory was an agent for Liberty Life Insurance Co.. He was a member of the Kiwanis Club and First Baptist Church in Clinton.

Surviving are his wife, Betti Smith Gregory; two daughters, Holly Gregory Worthy of Clinton and Alysan Gregory Berry of Rock Hill; his parents, Banks and Ruth Rollins Gregory, both of Rock Hill; two brothers, Richard Gregory of Rock Hill and Gerald Gregory of Lancaster; his sister, Chris Norman of Clinton; and two grandchildren.

Gray Funeral Home is in charge.
