Celia Halsey

CHESTER - Mrs. Celia Mae Starks Halsey, 66, of 113 Peace St. died Monday, Feb. 8, 1999, at Carolinas Medical Center in Charlotte.

The funeral will be 3 p.m. Saturday at Friendship Baptist Church, with the Rev. W.E. Page officiating. Burial will be at Cedar Rock Baptist Church cemetery.

A native of Chester County, Mrs. Halsey was the widow of Robert Halsey. She was a retired dietary aide at Chester County Hospital. She attended Finley High School and was a member of Friendship Baptist Church.

Surviving are three sons, Gregory D. Stacks of Suitland, Md., and Robert M. Halsey Jr. and Samuel E. Halsey, both of Chester; her daughter, Renee Starks of Chester; her stepson, Bernay Halsey of Gaffney; her stepdaughter, Gwendolette Wofford of Gaffney; two brothers, David Starks of Chester and George Starks of Forestville, Md.; two sisters, Mozell S. Walker of Chester and Blanche Jacobs of Palm Coast, Fla.; six grandchildren; and 11 great-grandchildren.

The family will receive friends at the home.

The body will be taken to the church at 1:30 p.m. Saturday.

Denton Funeral Home in Chester is in charge.

James Hill

BLACKSTOCK - Mr. James E. Hill of 271 School Road died Wednesday, Feb. 10, 1999, at the Veterans Administration Medical Center in Asheville, N.C.

Funeral arrangements will be announced by Christopher King's Funeral Home, 703 Old York Road, Chester.

The family will receive friends at home.

Delma G. Ledford

ROCK HILL - Mr. Delma Guy "D.G." Ledford, 71, of 635 Cannon Drive died Thursday, Feb. 11, 1999, at Mercy South Hospital in Pineville, N.C.

The funeral will be 2 p.m. Monday at Neely's Creek ARP Church, with the Rev. Bill Fleming and Jan Senneker officiating. Burial will be at the church cemetery.

Mr. Ledford was retired from Celanese and was owner and operator of Carolina Fabricators Inc. He was a railroad watch collector, a member of Neely's Creek ARP Church, the Catawba Masonic Lodge No. 56 in Fort Mill and the Hejaz Shrine Temple. He served in the U.S. Navy as a Seabee during World War II.

Surviving are his wife, Connie Clary Ledford; his brother, John W. Ledford of Charleston; his sister, Jean Nalley of Fort Mill; and two grandchildren.

The family will receive friends from 3 to 5 p.m. Sunday at Cauthen Funeral Home and at other times at the home.

Memorials may be made to Neely's Creek ARP Church, 974 Neely's Creek Road, Rock Hill, SC 29730.

John Lightner

ROCK HILL - Mr. John Lightner of 208 Scoggins St. died Wednesday, Feb. 10, 1999, at Piedmont Medical Center.

The funeral will be 3 p.m. Saturday at First Calvary Baptist Church, with the Rev. L.L. Hancock officiating. Burial will be at Barber Memorial Cemetery.

Mr. Lightner was a native of Fairfield County and was a retired Springs Industries employee. He was a member of First Calvary Baptist Church, where he was a trustee and a member of the Men's Choir, Hymn Choir and the Brotherhood. He was a Mason and was a member of the Sunset Park Community Club. He attended the public schools of Fairfield County. He was an Army veteran of World War II.

Surviving are his wife, Roberta Land Lightner; two sons, Johnny Lightner of Rock Hill and Jimmy Lightner of Irmo; seven daughters, Mary Ellen Lightner, Johnsie Washington, Martha Ann Abercrombie, Veola Bradley, Margaret Ratchford, and Helen Ratchford, all of Rock Hill, and Vanessa Watkins of Las Vegas; his brother, Joseph Brown of Charlotte; four sisters, Mary D. Jones and Annie Ruth Strong, both of Charlotte, T. Helen Thomas of North Augusta and Minnie L. Hampton of Pittsburgh; 18 grandchildren; and 12 great-grandchildren.

The body will be taken to the church at 1 p.m. Saturday and the family will receive friends at 2 p.m. Saturday at the church.

Robinson Funeral Home is in charge.

James Minor

YPSILANTI, Mich. - Mr. James E. Minor of Flint, Mich., died Monday, Feb. 8, 1999, at Beyer Memorial Hospital in Ypsilanti.

The funeral will be 3 p.m. Saturday at Christopher King's Funeral Home, 703 Old York Road, Chester. Burial will be at Cedar Grove Baptist Church cemetery.

Surviving are three sons, Clyde Minor of Ypsilanti, Carl Minor of South Ozone Park, N.Y., and Barry Minor of Dallas; 22 grandchildren; and 13 great-grandchildren.

The family will receive friends at the home of George and Sarah Marshall, 1163 Calhoun St., Rock Hill.

Edna Myatt

PHILADELPHIA - Mrs. Edna Ruth Sanders Myatt, 67, formerly of the Wilksburg community in Chester County, died Saturday, Feb. 6, 1999, at Chestnut Hill Hospital.

The funeral will be 3 p.m. Saturday at Zion Pilgrim Baptist Church, with the Rev. Curtis Washington officiating and the Rev. Clinton Ceasar assisting. The Rev. J.G. Jones will give the eulogy. Burial will be at the church cemetery.

Mrs. Myatt was a Chester native. She was a member of Zion Pilgrim Baptist Church. After residing in Philadelphia, she became a member of New Bethlehem Baptist Church. She was a graduate of Finley High School in Chester. She attended the University of South Carolina in Columbia and Friendship Junior College in Rock Hill. She was a retired seamstress.

Surviving are her husband, the Rev. Melvin Myatt; two sons, Corrells Myatt and Jeffrey Myatt, both of Philadelphia; her daughter, Tastonia Young of Myrtle Beach; four brothers, Talton Sanders Jr. of Charlotte, Thomas Sanders of Chester and Larry Sanders and Samuel Sanders, both of Philadelphia; her sister, Margaret S. Zoladek of Bensalem, Pa.; and 10 grandchildren.

The family will receive friends at the home of Thomas and Vivian Sanders, 2382 West Chester School Road, Chester.

The body may be viewed from 1 to 9 p.m. today at King's Funeral Home, 135 Cemetery St.

The body will be taken to the church at 2 p.m. Saturday.

Janie Perkins

BRONX, N.Y. - Mrs. Janie Buckson Perkins of 869 East 226th St. died Wednesday, Feb. 3, 1999.

Burial was Tuesday in New York City.

A native of Chester, Mrs. Perkins graduated from Finley High School. She worked with the Department of Social Services for many years. After retirement, she did volunteer work for her church.

Surviving are two daughters, Gloria Jean Chisholm of Baltimore and Deloris Williams of Bronx; her brother, Nesbitt Buckson of Baltimore; four sisters, Ardis Watkin of Baltimore, Velvo Swinton, Pearl Cos and Helen McElhany, all of Bronx; and six grandchildren.

Gramaby Funeral Home in Bronx was in charge.

Christopher King's Funeral Home, 703 Old York Road in Chester, is in charge of local arrangements.
