Gregory Sims Jr.

ROCK HILL - Mr. Gregory "Greg" Jerome Sims Jr., 17, of 839 Eastwood Drive died Tuesday, March 3, 1998, in Van Wyck.

A graveside service will be 3:30 p.m. Monday at Grandview Memorial Park, with the Rev. Bruce Wyatt officiating.

A native of Kansas City, Mo., he was a 10th-grade student at Rock Hill High School, where he played football. He worked after school at the Shrimp Boat Restaurant.

Surviving are his mother and stepfather, Deborah L. Sims and Leroy Swinton, both of the home; his father and stepmother, Gregory J. Sims Sr. and Annie Sims, both of Kansas City, Mo.; his brother, Jeremy Sims of the home; his sister, Madison Sims of the home; his maternal grandmother, Gwen Armstrong of Kansas City, Mo.; and his step-paternal grandmother, Rebecca Swinton of Mount Pleasant.

The family will receive friends from 4 to 6 p.m. Sunday at Greene Funeral Home and other times at the home.

Alvin Taylor

JACKSON - Mr. Alvin E. "Al" Taylor, 72, of 200 Atomic Blvd. died Wednesday, March 4, 1998.

The funeral will be 10 a.m. Saturday at Matlock Baptist Church, with Robert L. Collum and W.H. Gunnoe officiating. Burial will be at Jackson Memorial Cemetery.

A Montgomery, Ala., native, Mr. Taylor was of the Baptist faith and was a member of several community organizations.

Surviving are his wife, Florine Cullen Taylor of Jackson; his son, Bobby O. Cullen of Fort Mill; his brother, Robert Taylor of Montgomery, Ala.; two sisters, Estelle Morgan of Lexington and Jenette Dennis of Prattville, Ala.; two grandchildren; and his great-grandson.

The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 tonight at Stephen D. Posey Funeral Home.

Memorials may be made to Shriners Hospital for Children, Greenville Unit, 950 West Faris Road, Greenville, SC 29605-4277.

Kevin Anthony

ROCK HILL - Mr. Kevin Tyrone Anthony, of 1109 Springdale Road Apt. 101 died Tuesday, March 3, 1998.

The funeral will be 2 p.m. Monday at First Baptist Church, with the Rev. George Jackson officiating. Burial will be at Barber Memorial Cemetery.

Surviving are his mother, Patrice Anthony; two sisters, Tisha Anthony and Lakisha Anthony, both of the home; and his grandmother, Rachel Anthony.

The family will receive friends at the home.

Elmo Cabaniss

SHELBY, N.C. - Mr. Elmo Suttle Cabaniss, 75, of 1403 Lackey St. died Thursday, March 5, 1998, at Carolina Care in Cherryville.

A graveside service with full Masonic rites will be 2 p.m. Sunday at Cleveland Memorial Park, with the Rev. Bob Dills officiating.

Born in Cleveland County, Mr. Cabanis was the co-owner of Cabaniss Sunoco. He was an Army veteran of World War II and a member of First Baptist Church and Cleveland Masonic Lodge No. 202. He was the widower of Esteline Boyles Cabaniss.

Surviving are his son, Mike Cabaniss of Shelby; his daughter, Lorraine Gardner of Shelby; two brothers, Wilber Cabiness of Shelby and Paul Cabaniss of Rock Hill; three sisters, Buena Kirby of Hudson, N.C., Mary Lee Camp of Eaton Rapids, Mich., and Jane Weaver of Shelby; and three grandchildren.

The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 tonight at Lutz-Austell Funeral Home and at other times at the home of Mike Cabaniss, 1411 Troutman Lane.

Memorials may be made to the Masonic Children's Home, 600 College Ave., Oxford, NC 27565.

Marcus Hinton

ROCK HILL - Mr. Marcus LaVelle Hinton, 22, of 1115 Springdale Road Apt. 107 died Tuesday, March 3, 1998.

The funeral will be 3 p.m. Sunday at New Mount Olivet AME Zion Church, with the Revs. S.B. McBeth and Johnny L. Worthy Jr. officiating. Burial will be at Barber Memorial Cemetery.

Mr. Hinton was a 1994 graduate of Northwestern High School. He attended Norfolk State University. He was baptized at Pineville AME Zion Church.

Surviving are his father and mother, James and Laverne Hinton; two sisters, Ashley Nicole Hinton of Rock Hill and Amber Francesca Hinton of Charlotte; his fiancée, Jennifer Lambright; his paternal grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. James Robert Hinton Sr.; his maternal grandmother, Mildred M. Sims; and his maternal grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. Paul McFadden.

The family will receive friends at the home.

Jimmy Jackson

BLACKSBURG - Mr. Jimmy Jackson, 48, of 4849 Forest View Road died Friday, March 6, 1998, at his home.

The funeral will be 3 p.m. Sunday at York Funeral Home, with the Rev. John P. Smith officiating. Burial will be at Rose Hill Cemetery.

Born in Gastonia, N.C., Mr. Jackson was employed with Horace's Radiator and Air Conditioning Service. He was a member of the Wylie South Bass Masters.

Surviving are his wife, Evelyn Medlin Jackson of Blacksburg; two daughters, Teresa D. Jackson of Clover and Tammy D. Jackson of Gastonia; his brother, Howard Jackson of Mint Hill, N.C.; his sister, Wanda J. Windman of Mint Hill, N.C.; and two grandchildren.

The family will receive friends from 7 to 9 tonight at York Funeral Home.

Memorials may be made to the Clover Rescue Squad, P.O. Box 214, Clover, SC 29710 or the American Heart Association.

Beatrice Sandifer

ROCK HILL - Mrs. Beatrice F. Crockett Sandifer, 94, of 1146 Smith St. died Thursday, March 5, 1998, at her foster daughter's home.

The funeral will be 2 p.m. Sunday at Boyd Hill Baptist Church, with pastor B. B. Wilson officiating. Burial will be at Gethsemane Baptist Church cemetery in Chester.

Mrs. Sandifer attended the public schools of York County and was a member of Boyd Hill Baptist Church, where she was a member of the hymn choir, the deaconess board and the missionary society. She was a homemaker and was the widow of Richard "Son" Sandifer.

Surviving are five foster children that she raised, Betty Woods of Charlotte, and Sandra Brown, Virginia Bratton, Arthur Miller IV and Marion Cherry, all of Rock Hill; her sister, Louise Franklin of New York City; and three grandchildren.

The family will receive friends at the home.

The body may be viewed from 2 to 6 p.m. Saturday and from 10 a.m. to noon Sunday.

The body will be placed in the church at 1:30 p.m. Sunday.

Parker Funeral Home is in charge.
