Sara McCowan

LANCASTER - Mrs. Sara Campbell Youngblood McCowan, 76, of 1661 Old Hillside Drive died Monday, March 16, 1998, at Lancaster Convalescent Center.

A graveside service will be 2 p.m. Wednesday at Lancaster Memorial Park with the Revs. Shane Patrick and Roy Barnes officiating.

Born in York, Mrs. McCowan was a member of First Baptist Church and a retired bookkeeper at Springs Customer Service Center. She was the widow of Menton Ivey McCowan.

Surviving are two sisters, Mary Louise Marx of Nashville, Tenn., and Zoe Simmons of Kernersville, N.C.

The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 tonight at Cauthen Funeral Home and other times at the home of Donna McCowan, 1679 Old Hillside Drive, Lancaster.

Wanda Barker

CHARLESTON - Mrs. Wanda Hays Barker, 82, died Monday, March 16, 1998.

The funeral will be 2 p.m. Wednesday at Carolina Memorial Funeral Home. Burial will be at Carolina Memorial Gardens.

Born in Knott County, Ky., Mrs. Barker was a Baptist and the widow of Forest B. Barker.

Surviving are five sons, Clifford R. Barker of Cincinnati, Ronald Barker of Aiken, Norman D. Barker of Bulan, Ky., David H. Barker of Sassafras, Ky., and J.T. Barker of North Augusta; three daughters, Naida L. Allen of Atlanta, Nancy F. Hutto of Batesburg-Leesville and Naomi J. Woodward of Rock Hill; two brothers, Newell Hays of Amburgy, Ky., and Harmon N. Hays of Barnwell; four sisters, Madeline H. Hall of Charleston, Clella H. Barker of Hillsboro, Ohio, Elsie H. Black of Orlando, Fla., and Nedra H. Judy of Atlanta; 16 grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren.

The family will receive friends from 7 to 9 tonight at Carolina Memorial Funeral Home, 7113 Rivers Ave., North Charleston.

Rev. Nathaniel Boyd

ROCK HILL - The Rev. Nathaniel "N.T." Boyd, 71, of 363 Porter Road died Monday, March 16, 1998, at Piedmont Medical Center.

The funeral will be 7 p.m. Saturday at Bethel Baptist Church in Mount Holly, N.C., with the Rev. A. L. Nickles officiating, the Rev. James P. Hawthorne giving the eulogy and the Revs. L. L. Hancock, B. R. Wilson, J. Friday, J. Crowder, T. Armstrong, C. McCorkle, P. Mosely, E. Rozzell, Keith McCrorey and G. Feimister assisting. Burial will be 2 p.m. Sunday at Grandview Memorial Park.

Born in Winnsboro, the Rev. Boyd was educated in the public schools of Fairfield County. He received a degree in religion from Friendship Junior College and an honorary doctor of divinity degree from Baltimore College. He was a Navy veteran of World War II. He was the owner and operator of Boyd and Son Building Construction Co. He was the pastor of Bethel Baptist Church in Mount Holly, N.C., for more than 30 years.

Surviving are his wife, Willie Mae McCrorey Boyd; his son, Alfred Boyd of Rock Hill; two daughters, Virginia Wilmore-Caldwell of Sumter and Phyllis B. Belton of Columbia; two sisters, Mattie B. Johnson of Philadelphia and Estelle B. Cooper of Chicago; his grandchild; and three great-grandchildren.

The family will receive friends at the home.

The body may be viewed from 9 a.m. to noon Saturday at First Calvary Baptist Church in Rock Hill.

The body will be placed in Bethel Baptist Church from 3 p.m. Saturday until the time of service.

Martin Dubose

GREENSBORO, N.C. - Mr. Martin Dubose, 71, formerly of Chester, died Friday, March 13, 1998, at Moses Cone Hospital.

The funeral will be 1 p.m. Wednesday at Mount Zion Baptist Church, 1301 Alamance Church Road, Greensboro, with the Rev. Brooks officiating and the Revs. J.E. Darby and Charles Millington assisting. Burial will follow in Greensboro.

Mr. Dubose was a member of Mount Zion Baptist Church, where he was a trustee for 26 years and a former member of the senior usher board. He was a member of Morning Star Lodge No. 691. He retired from Summerfield Construction Co. and worked for F.D. Lewis Construction Co.

Surviving are his wife, Annie L. Brice Dubose of the home; two sons, James Dubose and George Dubose, both of High Point, N.C.; four daughters, Annie B. Dubose, Anita Dubose and Dorothy Meadows, all of Greensboro, and Ramona Matherson of High Point; two sisters, Janie McLaughlin and Lillie Crosbie, both of Greensboro; 12 grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.

The family will receive friends from 12:30 to 1 p.m. Wednesday at Mount Zion Baptist Church.

Hargett Funeral Home is in charge.

Mark Sexton

YORK - Mr. Mark Shane Sexton, 21, of 3242 Ferguson Long Road died Saturday, March 14, 1998, at Carolinas Medical Center in Charlotte.

The funeral will be 11 a.m. Wednesday at Calvary Baptist Church in Clover, with Dr. Elwood Seamster and the Rev. Rick Sturgis officiating. Burial will be at Lakeview Memory Gardens.

Mr. Sexton was employed at Price Plumbing Co. in Charlotte. He was a York County native.

Surviving are his father, Frank Jackson Sexton Jr., and stepmother, Patty Sexton, both of Rock Hill; his mother, Lillian Joy Adams Ballard, and stepfather, Keith Ballard, both of York; five brothers, Kevin Sexton of Asheville, N.C., Timmy Sexton and Travis Sexton, both of York, and Josh Sexton and Matthew Sexton, both of Rock Hill; his sister, Christi Sexton of York; two stepbrothers, Randall Ballard and Jason Ballard, both of Clover; his paternal grandfather, Frank J. Sexton Sr. of York; and his maternal grandparents, John Law and Alice Joy Adams, both of York.

The family will receive friends from 7 to 9 tonight at M.L. Ford and Sons Funeral Home.

Wardell Foster

FORT MILL - Mr. Wardell Foster, 66, of 155 Epps St. died Thursday, March 12, 1998, at Piedmont Medical Center in Rock Hill.

The funeral will be 2 p.m. today at Bethlehem Baptist Church, with the Rev. Caldwell Culp officiating, assisted by the Revs. Shawn Bell and Mildred Patton. Burial will be at Green Hill Cemetery.

Mr. Foster attended Bethlehem Baptist Church and was a graduate of George Fish High School. While in the Army, he received the Korean metal, two bronze stars and the United States SVC metal. He was formerly employed with Rock Hill Concrete Co. for more than 30 years.

Surviving are his father, William Foster of Fort Mill; his mother Maggie Lightener Foster of Fort Mill; two sons, Perry Foster of Lancaster and Ezell Smith of New York, N.Y.; his daughter, Phyllis McClinton of Rock Hill; his brother, Herbert Foster of Lancaster; his sister, Phyllis F. Bouler of Fort Mill; and five grandchildren.

The family will receive friends at the home. The body may be viewed from 1 to 2 p.m. today.

Deborah Porter

ROCK HILL - Mrs. Deborah "Debbie" Sweeney Porter, 39, of 1080 Riverside Drive died Sunday, March 15, 1998, at her home.

A memorial service will be 2 p.m. Wednesday at The Episcopal Church of Our Saviour, with the Rev. Dr. Charles Foss officiating. Burial will be private.

Born in Jamaica, N.Y., Mrs. Porter was a Navy veteran and was part owner, with her husband, of Riverside Pawn Shop. She was a licensed real estate agent with Horizon Realty.

She was married to the late Robert Porter.

Surviving are her father, Jim Sweeney of Rock Hill and her mother, Ethel May Devon Sweeney of Florida.

The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 tonight at the home of Johnny and Hazel Porter, 1084 Riverside Drive.
