Robert Porter

ROCK HILL - Mr. Robert "Bob" James Porter, 39, of 1080 Riverside Drive died Sunday, March 15, 1998, at his home.

A memorial service will be 2 p.m. Wednesday at The Episcopal Church of Our Saviour, with the Rev. Dr. Charles Foss officiating. Burial will be private.

Born in Rock Hill, Mr. Porter was the owner of Riverside Pawn and Riverside Tax Service. He was a licensed auctioneer and a Navy veteran.

He was married to the late Deborah Porter.

Surviving are his parents, Johnny J. and Hazel O' Beirn Porter, both of Rock Hill; two brothers, Ric Porter and Frank Porter, both of Rock Hill; two sisters, Pamela Porter of Atlanta and Lynn Porter-Whitmire of Westminster.

The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 tonight at the home of his parents, 1084 Riverside Drive.

Memorials may be made to Nature Conservancy, P.O. Box 5475, Columbia, SC 29250 or to Pilgrims' Inn, 236 W. Main St., Rock Hill, SC 29730.

Robert Jackson Sr.

ROCK HILL - Mr. Robert H. Jackson Sr., 80, of 1271 South Anderson Road died Sunday, March 15, 1998, at Presbyterian Hospital in Charlotte.

The funeral will be 3 p.m. Wednesday at Neely's Creek ARP Church with the Rev. Bill Fleming officiating. Burial will be at the church cemetery.

Born in Lancaster County, Mr. Jackson was a farmer and was retired from Rock Hill Printing & Finishing Co. He was a member of Neely's Creek ARP Church.

Surviving are his son, Robert H. "Bob" Jackson Jr. of Rock Hill; his daughter, Connie Clary Ledford of Rock Hill; two brothers, Luther Jackson and Elbert Jackson, both of Lancaster; his sister, Emma Lee Sims of Asheville, N.C.; and two grandchildren.

The family will receive friends from 7 to 9 tonight at Cauthen Funeral Home and other times at the home.

Memorials may be made to Neely's Creek ARP Church organ fund, 974 Neely's Creek Road, Rock Hill, SC 29730.

Steve Bynum

YORK - Mr. Steve Wilson Bynum of 2288 Kingsburry Road died Sunday, March 15, 1998, at Piedmont Medical Center in Rock Hill.

The funeral will be 3 p.m. Wednesday at Bethel Baptist Church, with the Rev. Joseph Edwards officiating. Burial will be at Lakeview Memory Gardens.

Born in McAdenville, N.C., Mr. Bynum was retired from the Catawba Station of Duke Power Co. in mechanical maintenance. He was a member of Grace Wesleyan Church in Belmont, N.C., and was a Navy veteran.

Surviving are his wife, Carol Sheppard Bynum; his son, Steven Randall Bynum of Mount Holly, N.C.; two daughters, Tina Jo B. Bolyne of Gastonia, N.C., and Carrie B. Good of York; his sister, Billie B. Watts of Stanley, N.C.; and four grandchildren.

The family will receive friends from 7 to 8:30 tonight at York Funeral Home.

Jack Strawn

LANCASTER - Mr. Jack Clayton Strawn, 58, of 1209 Bailey Road died Monday, March 16, 1998, at Springs Memorial Hospital.

The funeral will be 3 p.m. Wednesday at Pleasant Dale Baptist Church, with the Revs. Kenneth Walters and Andy Rollins officiating. Burial will be at Lancaster Memorial Park.

Born in Lancaster County, Mr. Strawn was the owner and operator of Jack's Highway 9 Party Shop and a member of Pleasant Dale Baptist Church.

Surviving are his wife, Anne Hall Strawn of the home; three daughters, Wanda Strawn Sudduth of Lancaster, Sherry Strawn Norris of Salisbury, N.C., and Gina Strawn of the home; his brother, George H. Strawn of Silver Springs, Md.; his sister, Barbara Bradley of Lancaster; and four grandchildren.

The family will receive friends from 7 to 9 tonight at Hartley Funeral Home.

Dorothy Carvill

FORT MILL - Mrs. Dorothy May Field Carvill, 74, of 7182 Twin Lakes Estates died Sunday, March 15, 1998, at Piedmont Medical Center in Rock Hill.

The funeral will be 11 a.m. today at Flint Hill Baptist Church, with the Rev. Dan Griffin officiating. Burial will be at Unity Cemetery.

Born in Lewiston, Maine, Mrs. Carvill was a homemaker and a member of Flint Hill Baptist Church.

Surviving are her son, Carl Carvill of Norristown, Penn.; two daughters, Virginia McAdams of Lithonia, Ga., and Faith Fausett of Fort Mill; her mother, Bessie Field of Lewiston, Maine; two brothers, George Field of Auburn, Maine, and Eugene Field of Lewiston, Maine; her sister, Rhoda Ouillette of Caribou, Maine; eight grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Flint Hill Missions Project, 269 Flint Hill Road, Fort Mill, SC 29715.

Mamie Catoe

KERSHAW - Mrs. Mamie Leona Hilton Catoe, 100, of 1841 Ellis Road died Tuesday, March 17, 1998, at Springdale Village in Camden.

The funeral will be 11 a.m. Thursday at Mount Pisgah Baptist Church, with the Rev. Dr. Clay Shook officiating. Burial will be at the church cemetery.

Born in Kershaw, Mrs. Catoe was a homemaker and a member of the Kershaw Senior Citizens. She was a member of Mount Pisgah Baptist Church, where she was the oldest member ever recorded on the roll and worked in the church nursery for many years. She was the widow of Zellie Armstrong Catoe.

Surviving are four daughters, Polly Albertine Jones of Florence, and Myrtis Catoe, Anice Bauknight and Jo Wieters, all of Columbia; eight grandchildren; and 17 great-grandchildren.

The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 tonight at Cauthen Funeral Home.

Memorials may be made to Mount Pisgah Baptist Church, 2140 McBee Highway, Jefferson, SC 29718.

John Hegwood

ROCK HILL - Mr. John James "Jack" Hegwood, 76, of 2266 Ferncliff Road died Monday, March 16, 1998, at Piedmont Medical Center.

The funeral will be 3 p.m. Wednesday at Ebenezer ARP Church, with Drs. Jack Basie and Boyce Wilson officiating. Burial will be at Grandview Memorial Park.

Born in Chester, Mr. Hegwood was retired from Railway Postal Service. He was a member of Ebenezer ARP Church, where he was a deacon. He served in the 9th Air Force, participated in the D-Day invasion of France and was awarded the Purple Heart. He was secretary of the Elks Lodge and was a volunteer at Hope House.

Surviving are his wife, Elaine Dabney Hegwood; two daughters, Marie Burton and Joyce Harris, both of Rock Hill; his brother, William J. Hegwood of Rock Hill; his sister, Virginia Burrell of Rock Hill; four grandchildren; and his great-grandchild.

The family will receive friends at the home.

Memorials may be made to Hope Inc., 725 Crest, Rock Hill, SC 29730.
