Charles Huff

GREENVILLE - Mr. Charles W. Huff, 77, of 113 Merrifield Drive died Tuesday, March 17, 1998, at St. Francis Hospital.

A memorial service will be 2 p.m. Saturday at Northside United Methodist Church.

Born in Greenville County, Mr. Huff was a graduate of Greenville High School, received undergraduate degrees from Mars Hill Junior College and Wofford College, received a master's degree from the University of South Carolina and received his Ph.D from the University of Georgia.

He was professor emeritus of mathematics and a former department head at Winthrop University. He also taught at Auburn University, Penn State and University of South Carolina. At Winthrop he organized the Mathematics Student Chapter of the Archimedeans and was faculty advisor.

He was a member of Phi Kappa Phi, Kappa Mu Epsilon, the American Mathematical Society and Northside Methodist Church, where he was former head usher and member of the administrative board. He was a charter member of the York County Association for Retarded Citizens. He was an Army veteran of World War II.

Surviving are his wife, Eloise Morris Huff of the home; his son, William Charles Huff of Japan; three daughters, Elaine Morris Huff-Lowe of Pickens, Linda Cothran Huff of Mauldin and Karen Frances Huff-Lowe of the Bahamas; his sister, Clista Huff LeGrand of Greenville; and five grandchildren.

The family will receive friends from 7 to 8:30 tonight at Mackey Mortuary.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Northside United Methodist Church, 435 Summit Drive, Greenville, SC 29609 or Greenville Mental Retardation Foundation, PO Box 17467, Greenville, SC 29606.

Juanita Knight

LANCASTER - Mrs. Juanita Belk Knight, 91, of 1209 Hawthorne Road died Thursday, March 19, 1998, at Lancaster Convalescent Center.

The funeral will be 2 p.m. Saturday at Cauthen Funeral Home, with the Rev. James H. Spencer III officiating. Burial will be at Lancaster Memorial Park.

Born in Kershaw, Mrs. Knight was a member of Second Baptist Church for over 60 years where she was a member of the WMU and the Sunday school. She was the widow of John Monroe Knight.

Surviving are her son, Robert "Bobby" Knight of Soperton, Ga.; her daughter, Lib McGee of Lancaster; her sister, Annie Lockman of Lancaster; 13 grandchildren; and 12 great-grandchildren.

The family will receive friends at the home of Marion and Lib McGee, 1209 Hawthorne Road.

Memorials may be made to Second Baptist Church, 1426 Great Falls Highway, Lancaster, SC 29720.

Vance Mayfield

CHESTER - Mr. Vance "Van Dyke" Mayfield, 58, of 105 Dawson Drive, Chester Heights 2, Apt. 149 died Wednesday, March 18, 1998, at Chester County Hospital.

The funeral will be 3 p.m. Monday at Ebenezer Baptist Church, Leeds community, with the Rev. Oliver Royal officiating and the Rev. Jessie Boulware delivering the eulogy. Burial will follow at the church cemetery.

A Chester native, Mr. Mayfield was a former textile worker and a member of Ebenezer Baptist Church. He was educated in the public schools of Chester County.

Surviving are two brothers, A.C. Mayfield and James Mayfield, both of Carlisle; and six sisters, Louise Sanders, Sarah Mayfield, Ora B. Crank and Patricia Mayfield, all of Chester, and Emma Mayfield and Virginia Mayfield, both of New York.

The family will receive friends at the home of Patricia Mayfield, 609 Maple St.

The body will be placed in the church at 2 p.m. Monday.

Green McCollough

ROCK HILL - Mr. Green McCollough of 352 Sidney St. died Tuesday, March 17, 1998, at Piedmont Medical Center.

The funeral will be 2 p.m. Saturday at Rock Grove AME Zion Church, with the Rev. Ralph Washington officiating, the Rev. Rickey McCollough giving the eulogy and the Revs. John Brown and Johnny Worthy assisting. Burial will be at the church cemetery.

A York County native, Mr. McCollough was a retired employee of the City of Rock Hill. He was a member of Rock Grove AME Zion Church where he was a choir member and usher. He was an Army veteran, a member of the Masonic Four Cross Lodge No. 109, a member of the Lancaster Consistory No. 254 and a member of Menzel Temple No. 35. He attended Emmett Scott High School.

Surviving are his wife, Helen W. McCollough of Rock Hill; his son, Andra McCollough of Bronx, N.Y.; two daughters, Sherry M. Blake of San Antonio and Jacqueline McCollough of Rock Hill; three brothers, Donald McCollough of Succassunna, N.J., Warren McCollough of Columbia and Ben McCollough of Rock Hill; two sisters, Sadie Morrisson and Dorothy Allen, both of Rock Hill; and seven grandchildren.

The family will receive friends from 6 to 7 tonight at Robinson Funeral Home and other times at 352 Sidney St. and 325 Rock Grove Ave.

The body will be placed in the church at 1 p.m. Saturday.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Rock Grove AME Zion Church Building Fund, 1460 Margaret St., Rock Hill, SC 29730.

Mary Missildine

LANCASTER - Mrs. Mary Frances Bayne Missildine, 70, of Route 1, Woodward Circle, Ruby, formerly of Lancaster, died Wednesday, March 18, 1998, at Scotland Memorial Hospital in Laurinburg, N.C.

The funeral will be 2 p.m. today at Cauthen Funeral Home, with the Rev. Bill Allen officiating. Burial will be at Lancaster Memorial Park.

Born in Geneva, Ala., Mrs. Missildine was a retired textile worker. She was the widow of Carnie Lee Missildine.

Surviving are her son, Ronnie Missildine of Lancaster; four daughters, Glora Hodge of Ruby, Sylvia Greene of Rock Hill, Patsy Kimbril of Lancaster and Barbara Bowers of Heath Springs; her brother, Franklin Bayne; 15 grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren.

Cauthen Funeral Home is in charge.

John Nichols

ROCK HILL - Mr. John Henry Nichols, 56, of 2116 Mount Holly Road died Wednesday, March 18, 1998, at Presbyterian Hospital in Charlotte.

The funeral will be private.

An Oklahoma native, Mr. Nichols was a retired submarine machinist supervisor with the federal government.

Surviving are his wife, Gail Hunsucker Nichols of the home; two daughters, Jennifer Barnett of Bakersfield, Calif., and Amber Ragghanti of San Diego; two stepdaughters, Leah Hodson and Brandy Barton of the home; two brothers, Lewis Nichols of Concord, Calif., and Jim Nichols of Florida; five sisters, Betty Carlblom of Rogue River, Ore., Ozetta Jordon of Vacaville, Calif., Maxine Woods of Santa Rosa, Calif., and Hulene Prihoda and Coleen Chase, both of San Diego; and five grandchildren.

Greene Funeral Home is in charge.

Roderick Roberts

GREAT FALLS - Mr. Roderick Ray Roberts, 66, of 15973 S.C. 200 died Wednesday, March 18, 1998, at his home.

A memorial service will be 2 p.m. Saturday at Evangel Temple Assembly of God, with the Rev. Mike Sollers officiating.

Born in Kershaw County, Mr. Roberts was retired from Continental Grain Co. as a master weighman. He was an Army veteran of the Korean War. He attended the schools of Great Falls.

Surviving are his wife, Mary Pagan Roberts of Great Falls; three sons, Mark Roberts of Winnsboro, and Ben Roberts and Jamie Roberts, both of Great Falls; two stepdaughters, Julie Holden of Woodstock, Ga., and Renae Pouncey of Pelham, Ala.; his brother, Allen C. Roberts of Great Falls; two sisters, Betty Jones and Nadine Fowler, both of Great Falls; and four grandchildren.

The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 tonight at the home.

Memorials may be made to York County Hospice, 325 S. Oakland Ave., Rock Hill, SC 29732.
