Curtis Whitaker
LANCASTER - Mr. Curtis Lee Whitaker, 90, of 4099 Flat Creek Road died Wednesday, Jan. 28, 1998, at Union Regional Medical Center in Monroe, N.C.
The funeral will be 3 p.m. today at High Point Baptist Church, with the Revs. Joey Burnett and Bobby Joyner officiating. Burial will be at Lancaster Memorial Park.
Born in Lancaster, Mr. Whitaker was a member of High Point Baptist Church, Fork Hill Masonic Lodge No. 316 and was a 50-year Mason. He was retired from Springs Industries. He was the widower of Etta Irene Vincent Whitaker.
Surviving are three sons, Randolph Whitaker of Manchester, Tenn., and Ralph Whitaker and Donald Whitaker, both of Lancaster; his daughter, Lib Kennington of Lancaster; eight grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.
Memorials may be made to High Point Baptist Church building fund, 1888 Rocky River Road, Lancaster, SC 29720.
Cauthen Funeral Home is in charge.

Robert Youngblood
ROCK HILL - Mr. Robert Ray Youngblood, 67, of 522 Walnut St. died Wednesday, Jan. 28, 1998, at Carolinas Medical Center in Charlotte.
The funeral will be 3 p.m. today at Greene Funeral Home Chapel, with the Rev. Stephen Reynolds officiating. Burial will be at Grandview Memorial Park.
A native of Clover, Mr. Youngblood was retired from General Tire in Charlotte after 25 years of service. He was a U.S. Air Force veteran of the Korean War and a member of Rogers Memorial ARP Church, where he formerly served as deacon.
Surviving are his wife, Catherine Hodges Youngblood; two sons, Bobby Youngblood and James Youngblood, both of Rock Hill; two daughters, Joan Carpenter of Sharon and Audrey Smith of Monroe, N.C.; his brother, Gene Youngblood of Rock Hill; and seven grandchildren.
The family will receive friends at the home.
Memorials may be made to the Alzheimers Association, 3420 Shamrock Drive, Charlotte, NC 28215.

Jonah Curlee
ROCK HILL - Mr. Jonah P. "J.P." Curlee, Jr, 88, of Rock Hill, died Thursday, Jan. 29, 1998 at Piedmont Medical Center.
The funeral will be 3 p.m. Sunday at St. Paul's Lutheran Church, with the Rev. Bill Ketchie officiating. Burial will be at St. Paul's Lutheran Church Cemetery.
Born in Rowan County, N.C., he attended the Rowan County schools. He retired from the U.S. Navy with the rank of Chief Petty Officer and was a member of St. Paul's Lutheran Church.
He was a widower of Gladys Roseman Curlee.
He was preceded in death by a step-son, Bobby L. Cruse and a step-daughter, Peggy Jean Price.
The family will receive friends from 7 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. today at Lyerly Funeral Home.

Leona Gordon
GREENVILLE - Mrs. Leona Pittman Gordon, 66, died Thursday, Jan. 29, 1998 at Pitt County Memorial Hospital.
A graveside service will be 3 p.m. today at Pinewood Memorial Park.
A native of York County, Mrs. Pittman attended the Unity Free Will Baptist Church. She was employed at Twice Is Nice.
Surviving are her husband, Ralph C. Gordon; two daughters, Nancy Gordon Harris of Greenville and Kathryn Gordon Buffington of Baltimore, Md.; two sisters, Bonnie Tucker of Sumter and Linda Eaton of Rock Hill; and three grandchildren.
The family will receive friends from 12:30 to 2 p.m. today at Wilkerson Funeral Home in Greenville and other times at the home, 101 Avalon Ave., Greenville.
Memorials may be made to the charity of one's choice.

Edward Jennings
ROCK HILL - Mr. Edward Jennings of 322 Friedheim Road died Thursday, Jan. 29, 1998, at Piedmont Medical Center.
The funeral will be 2 p.m. Tuesday at Boyd Hill Baptist Church, with the Rev. B. R. Wilson officiating. He will be assisted by the Revs. C.H. Williams, James Thompson and David Jennings. Burial will be at Barber Memorial Cemetery.
A native of Forsythe County, N.C., Mr. Jennings was a retired employee of Matthews Construction Company. He was a member of Boyd Hill Baptist Church, where he served on the senior usher board. He attended the public schools of York County.
Surviving are his wife, Bessie Jennings; three daughters, Brenda Campbell and Sally Woodard, both of Rock Hill, and Sandra Massey of Saluda, Va.; five sisters, Azalea Johnson of Middleton, R.I., Johnnie Patterson of Rock Hill, and Sara Singfield, Helen Martin and Sara Ferguson, all of Baltimore; four brothers, the Rev. David Jennings, Harry Jennings, Harry Collins, all of Rock Hill, and Jackson Jennings of Baltimore; 15 grandchildren; and 23 great-grandchildren.
The family will receive friends from 6 to 7 p.m. Monday at Boyd Hill Baptist Church and at other times at the home.
The body will be placed in the church at 1 p.m. Tuesday.

Frances Kennington
LANCASTER - Mrs. Frances Key Miller Kennington, 66, of 504 Carolina Court died Thursday, Jan. 29, 1998 at Springs Memorial Hospital in Lancaster.
The funeral will be 2 p.m. Sunday at First Freewill Baptist Church in Chester, with the Rev. James Sanders officiating. Burial will be at Evergreen Cemetery in Chester.
Born in York County, she was retired from Springs Industries and attended the schools of York County.
Surviving are three sons, Jimmy R. Miller and Bobby O. Miller, both of Chester, and Benny R. Miller of Lancaster; three daughters, Betty Whitesides of Lancaster, and Mary Byars and Edna Cooper, both of Chester; two sisters, Macy Key and Trez Adams, both of Rock Hill; 19 grandchildren; and 17 great-grandchildren.
The family will receive friends from 7 to 9 p.m. today at Barron Funeral Home and other times at the home of Jimmy Miller, 942 Enix Road, Chester, SC 29706.

William McSween
GREENVILLE - Mr. William Crews McSween, 80, of 124 Knollwood Lane, formerly of Rock Hill, died Thursday, Jan. 29, 1998, at home.
A memorial service will be held 3 p.m. Monday at Fourth Presbyterian Church, with Dr. Allen Crews McSween, Jr. officiating. Visitation will follow the service in the fellowship hall of the church.
Born in Greenville, he was vice president for investments at Canal Insurance Company. He was also manager of the Greenville Office of Harris, Upham & Co., a member of the New York Stock Exchange. He served in the U.S. Army Corps during World War II, European Theater, and was honorably discharged with the rank of captain.
He was a graduate of Presbyterian College, a former President of the Alumni Association and a former member of the college's Board of Trustees. He was a member of Pi Kappa Alpha Fraternity.
He was a member of Fourth Presbyterian Church and an Elder for more than 45 years. He was a former Moderator of the Presbytery.
He was a Master Mason (Recovery Lodge #31) and a member of York Rite and Scottish Rite bodies of Freemasonry, and was a member of the Shrine, Hejaz Temple.
He was a member of the Board of Governors, Greenville Unit, of the Shriners Hospital for Crippled Children for over 30 years.
He was a former member of the Board of Directors of the Greenville Chamber of Commerce and was a former member of the Greenville County Commission on Alcohol and Drug Abuse. He was a life member (inactive) of the Sertoma Club of Greenville.
He was an emeritus member of the Poinsett Club and the Greenville Country Club and the Saint Andrew's Society of Upper South Carolina.
Surviving are his wife, Grace Ashe McSween of the home; a daughter, Jane McSween Jameson of Columbia; a brother, the Rev. Allen Crews McSween, of Clinton; and a sister, Carolyn McSween Webb, of Clinton. He was preceded in death by a sister, Jean McSween Donkle.
Memorials may be made to Presbyterian College, South Broad Street, Clinton, SC 29325, or to the Fourth Presbyterian Church, 703 E. Washington St., Greenville, SC, 29601.

J.W. Neely
LANCASTER - Mr. J.W. Neely, 75, of 308 West Arch St., died Friday, Jan. 30, 1998 at Carolinas Medical Center in Charlotte.
The funeral will be 3 p.m. Sunday at the Cauthen Funeral Home's Lancaster Chapel, with the Rev. Jerry Devinney officiating. Burial will be at Lancaster Memorial Park.
Mr. Neely was a member of the Springdell Baptist Church and had been an officer for the City of Lancaster Police Department for 21 years. He also had been Chief Security Officer for Springs Industries until his retirement.
Surviving are three sisters, Frances Rollins, Eula Mae McManus and Margaret Nix, all of Lancaster.
The family will receive friends from 7 to 9 p.m. today at the Cauthen Funeral Home's Lancaster Chapel and other times at the home of Frances Rollins, 1772 Franklin Street, Lancaster.

Frances Ormand
LANCASTER - Mrs. Frances "Sue" Stamps Ormand, 58, of 1352 Lee Ormand Road died Friday, Jan. 30, 1998 at her home.
The graveside service will be 3 p.m. Monday at Hopewell United Methodist Church Cemetery, with the Rev. Rodney Powell officiating.
A native of Ohio, Mrs. Ormand was a self-employed CNA nursing assistant.
Surviving are her mother, Mrs. Beatrice Cox Stamps of Pasadena, Calif.; her husband, Bob Ormand of the home; her son, Kevin Christianson of Indianapolis, Ind.; her daughter, Mary Jo Mendozia of Monrovia, Calif.; two brothers, Kenneth Stamps and Robert Stamps, both of Monrovia, Calif.; six sisters, Lois Carter, Janet Coley, Shirley Chavez, all of Monrovia, Calif., Carolyn Duke of Rialto, Calif., Marilyn Carter of Everette, Wash., and Sarah Polston of Lancaster; and five grandchildren.
The family will receive friends from 7 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. Sunday at Hartley Funeral Home, and other times at the home of Mr. JP and Kitty Ormand, 514 Holiday Road, Lancaster, SC.

Etta Rogers
PINEVILLE, NC - Mrs. Etta Adams Rogers, 89, of 205 Dover St., Pineville, N.C., died Friday, Jan. 30, 1998 at her home.
The funeral will be 2 p.m. Monday at Whitesell-Wolfe Funeral Home Chapel. Burial will follow at the Pineville City Cemetery.
Mrs. Rogers was the widow of William Clayton Rogers and was a member of the Church of God Faith. She had worked for Cone Mills and was a homemaker.
Surviving are two sons, Paul J. Rogers of Pineville, N.C., and E.J. Rogers of Fort Mill; her daughter, Bernice Nicholson of Fort Mill; two sisters, Jessie Sims and Daisy Lane, both of Lancaster; 16 grandchildren; and 21 great-grandchildren.
The family will receive friends from 7 to 9 p.m. Sunday at Whitesell-Wolfe Funeral home and other times at the home, 205 Dover St., Pineville, N.C.
