Herbert Neal

LANCASTER - Mr. Herbert "Hub" A. Neal, 78, of 788 Shiloh-Unity Road, died Monday, March 30, 1998, at his home.

The funeral service will be 4 p.m. Wednesday at Zion United Methodist Church, with the Revs. Frank Lybrand and Thomas Wilkes officiating. Burial will be at the church cemetery.

Mr. Neal retired from Neal and Sons Garage, which he owned and operated for 25 years. He was a member of Zion United Methodist Church, where he was a Sunday school teacher for many years. He was the past president of the Shiloh-Zion Volunteer Fire Department. He served in the Navy Seabees during World War II.

Surviving are his wife, Alma McAteer Neal; his son, Jimmy H. Neal of Lancaster; his daughter, Teresa Neal Lathan of Lancaster; and two grandchildren.

The family will receive friends from 7 to 8:30 tonight at Hartley Funeral Home.

Memorials may be made to the Tony Neal Scholarship Fund, c/o Zion United Methodist Church, 1665 Zion Road, Lancaster, SC 29720.

Ruby Stover

GREENVILLE - Mrs. Ruby "LaNora" Stover, 77, of 10 W. 5th St., Woodside, died Sunday, March 29, 1998, at her home.

Private services were Monday at Woodlawn Memorial Park.

Mrs. Stover was a homemaker and a member of Woodside Baptist Church.

Surviving are two sons, Charles H. Stover of Rock Hill and Dennis Lee Stover of Greenville; her brother, Alvin H. Clark of Greenville; seven grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren.

Thomas McAfee Funeral Home was in charge.

Mary Hartis

ROCK HILL - Mrs. Mary Margaret Dunn Hartis, 47, of 1222 Melrose Drive died Tuesday, March 31, 1998, at Presbyterian Hospital in Charlotte.

The funeral service will be 2 p.m. Friday at Greene Funeral Home, with Maj. Robert Butler officiating and Lt. Chuck Whiten assisting. Burial will be at Forest Hills Cemetery.

A native of Rock Hill, Mrs. Hartis was a member of the Salvation Army and was a bookkeeper for Rock Hill schools. She also was the owner and operator of Dunn Mobile Home Park in Rock Hill.

Surviving are her husband, Roy Wayne Hartis; two sons, Anthony Carl Fudge and Ryan Christopher Fudge, both of the home; three stepsons, Roy Wayne Hartis Jr., Ricky Hartis and Jamie Hartis, all of Rock Hill; her daughter, April Elizabeth Fudge of the home; her brother, Carl O. Dunn of Rock Hill; three sisters, Minnie Lou "Lucy" Brown of York, Betty Irene Sexton of Rock Hill and Rebecca Ann Dunn Hinson of Lake Wylie; and her grandchild.

The family will receive friends from 7 to 9 tonight at Greene Funeral Home and at other times at the home.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Salvation Army, 119 Charlotte Ave., Rock Hill, SC 29730.

Barbara Hughes

CHESTER - Mrs. Barbara Foster Hughes, 45, of Chester Townhouse Apartments died Monday, March 30, 1998, at Robert Wood Johnson Medical Center in New Brunswick, N.J.

The funeral will be 3 p.m. Sunday at Antioch Baptist Church, with the Rev. Paul Long officiating and the Revs. Ricky Daniel, Dennis White and Tommy Sanders assisting. Burial will be at the church cemetery.

Mrs. Hughes was a member of the Holy Place Church. She graduated from Finley High School in Chester.

Surviving are her son, Eric J. Stroud of Chester; two daughters, Keshia C. Stroud and Bertha O. Stroud, both of Chester; four brothers, Frank D. Foster of New Carrolton, Md., James Harvey Foster of Capitol Heights, Md., Billy M. Foster of Oxen Hill, Md., and Joseph Foster of Chester; five sisters, Maggie King of Crystal River, Fla., Gladys Foster, Patricia O. Foster and Gloria Brown, all of Piscataway, N.J.; and Mable L. Richardson of Edison, N.J.; and five grandchildren.

The family will receive friends from 7 to 8 tonight at Gore's Funeral Home.

The body will be taken to the church at 2 p.m. Sunday.

Clara Jeter

ROCK HILL - Mrs. Clara Johnson Jeter, 80, of 3191 Passmore Drive died Tuesday, March 31, 1998, at Palmetto Baptist Hospital in Columbia.

A graveside service will be 2 p.m. Thursday at Old Friendship United Methodist Church Cemetery, with the Rev. David Taylor officiating.

Mrs. Jeter was a retired payroll clerk and a member of Friendship United Methodist Church, where she was active in the Amity Club.

Surviving are her daughter, Ethel J. Sutton of Rock Hill; two sisters, Edith J. Laney of Chesterfield and Elizabeth J. Layding of Berlin, Penn.; and two grandchildren.

The family will receive friends from 7 to 8:30 tonight at Greene Funeral Home and at other times at the home of her daughter, Ethel J. Sutton, 3191 Passmore Drive, Rock Hill.

Memorials may be made to the Friendship United Methodist Church general fund, 1200 Neely Store Road, Rock Hill, SC 29730.

Bertie Parker

KERSHAW - Mrs. Bertie Twitty Parker, 83, of 101 White St. died Monday, March 30, 1998, at Lancaster Convalescent Center.

The funeral will be 4 p.m. Thursday at Second Baptist Church, with the Rev. Hugh McKinney officiating. Burial will be at Kershaw City Cemetery.

Mrs. Parker was a member of Second Baptist Church, the Women's Missionary Society and the Kershaw Senior Citizens Center. She was a homemaker.

Surviving are two sons, Chuck Parker of Charlotte and Rick Parker of Lexington, Va.; three daughters, Gwen Blackwell of Aiken, Kathy Dizon of Columbia and Annette Lucas of Great Falls; two sisters, Shelby Sullivan and Carol Adams, both of Columbia; her stepmother, Annie S. Twitty of Kershaw; three half-brothers, Gerald Twitty of Spartanburg, and Bill Twitty and Donny Twitty, both of Columbia; 10 grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren.

The family will receive friends from 7 to 8:30 tonight at Cauthen Funeral Home.

Memorials may be made to Second Baptist Church, 7737 Kershaw-Camden Hwy., Kershaw, SC 29067.

Estelle Scruggs

ROCK HILL - Ms. Estelle Scruggs, 79, of 334 Wilhurst St., Apt. D, died Sunday, March 29, 1998, at Piedmont Medical Center.

The funeral will be 2 p.m. Thursday at Union Baptist Church, with the Rev. Ronnie Baxter officiating. Burial will be at the church cemetery.

Ms. Scruggs attended Fairfield County public schools. She was a member of Union Baptist Church, where she was in the Missionary Society, Church Aid Society, Hymn Choir and the Gold Plus Club.

Surviving are her daughter, Jacqueline Mitchell Pendergrass of the home; her brother, Dan Scruggs of Rock Hill; and four sisters, Lula Scruggs of Rock Hill, Rosie Holmes of Blair, Viola Hurst of Baltimore, and Lindsey Chambers of Rock Hill.

The family will receive friends from 6 to 7 tonight at Union Baptist Church and at other times at the home.

The body will be placed in the church at noon Thursday.
