Lavoyd Horne

HEATH SPRINGS - Mr. Lavoyd Griggs Horne, 71, of 1598 Flint Ridge Road died Monday, April 6, 1998, at the Lancaster Convalescent Center in Lancaster.

The funeral will be 3 p.m. today at Flint Ridge Baptist Church, with the Revs. Steve Neal and Harry Scarborough officiating. Burial will at the church cemetery.

Mr. Horne was a member of Flint Ridge Baptist Church and was retired from Springs Industries. He was a World War II Army veteran, a Mason, and member of Baron Lodge No. 261.

Surviving are his wife, Frankie Neal Horne; his daughter, Kathryn Woodward of Heath Springs; four brothers, C.W.S. Horne of Lexington, J.B. Horne, Hoyle Horne and Dale Horne, all of Heath Springs; and three sisters, Geraldine H. Carnes of Kershaw, Gladys H. Armstrong of Columbia and Nathera H. Robinson of Heath Springs; four grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.

Memorials may be made to Flint Ridge Baptist Church, 1892 Flint Ridge Road, Heath Springs, SC 29058.

Cauthen Funeral Home is in charge.

Nellie Jackson

CLOVER - Mrs. Nellie Jane Douglas Jackson, 89, of 212 Knox St. died Monday, April 6, 1998 at Gaston Memorial Hospital in Gastonia, N.C.

The funeral will be 11 a.m. Thursday at M.L. Ford and Sons Funeral Home, with Dr. Harry Schutte officiating. Burial will be at Lakeview Memory Gardens.

Mrs. Jackson was the widow of Frank F. Jackson and a member of Clover ARP Church.

Surviving are nephews and nieces.

The family will receive friends from 7 to 9 tonight at M.L. Ford and Sons Funeral Home.

William Payne Sr.

KERSHAW - Mr. William James Payne Sr., 74, of 4752 Payne Road died Monday, April 6, 1998, at Duke Medical Center in Durham, N.C.

The funeral will be 4 p.m. today at the Haile Gold Mine Baptist Church, with the Rev. Steve Anglin officiating. Burial will be at the church cemetery.

Mr. Payne was a member of the Haile Gold Mine Baptist Church. He was retired from Springs Industries, Grace Bleachery. He was World War II Army veteran and a member of VFW Post 8990.

Surviving are his wife, Doris Dixon Payne; three sons, William J. Payne Jr., B. Francis Payne and Keith L. Payne, all of Kershaw; his stepson, G. Michael Stallings of Lancaster; three brothers, Connie Payne of Jefferson, Junior C. Payne of Hartsville and Jessie B. Payne of Kershaw; two sisters, Ollie Mae Bartell and Arlevia Wallace, both of Kershaw; nine grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.

Memorials may be made to the Haile Gold Mine Baptist Church building fund, 5099 Payne Road, Kershaw, SC 29067.

Mary Tolles

ROCK HILL - Mrs. Mary O'Neal Tolles, 99, died Tuesday, April 7, 1998, at Ebenezer Nursing Home.

A memorial service will be 3:30 p.m. Thursday at Oakland Avenue Presbyterian Church, with Dr. William Pender officiating. Burial will be at 3 p.m. Thursday at Laurelwood Cemetery.

Born in Rock Hill, Mrs. Tolles was a member of Oakland Avenue Presbyterian Church. She was the widow of King C. Tolles. She was a graduate of Converse College. Mrs. Tolles was a member of the Perihelion Book Club.

Surviving are her son, John Tolles of Rock Hill; her daughter, Jessie Tolles of Rock Hill; and her sister, Laura Mauldin of Rock Hill and several nieces and nephews.

The family will receive friends from 6 to 7:30 tonight at the home of her son, John Tolles, 861 Myrtle Dr., and in the church narthex following the service.

Memorials may be made to Oakland Avenue Presbyterian Church, 421 Oakland Ave., Rock Hill, SC 29730.

Minnie Adams

FORT MILL - Mrs. Minnie Carol Gore Adams, 51, of 119 Bozeman Drive died Tuesday, April 7, 1998, at St. Francis Xavier Hospital in Charleston.

The funeral will be 2 p.m. Saturday at White Hill AME Zion Church in York, with the Rev. Mary L. Adams officiating and Dr. W.O. Thompson assisting. Burial will be at Center Emmanuel AME Zion Church cemetery in Newport.

Mrs. Adams was a member of Center Emmanuel AME Zion Church, where she was a member of the Hymn Choir and a Sunday school teacher. She was a native of York.

Surviving are her husband, Harry Adams of Hickory Grove; two sons, Christopher Pettus of the home and Telly S. Pettus of York; her daughter, Toni V. Gore of Rock Hill; her mother, Gladys Gore of York; her stepson, Kenyata Long of Hickory Grove, two stepdaughters, Monica McDaniel of Charlotte and Sandra Long of Hickory Grove; five brothers, William H. Gore, Robert A. Gore, Gordon E. Gore, Roy Gore and Terry Gore, all of York; five sisters, Johnnie R. Mayes of Ervin Texas, Lee Lee Gore of Charlotte, Debra Love, Cheryl Gore and Elaine Love, all of York; six grandchildren; and three step-grandchildren.

The family will receive friends at the home of her mother, Gladys Gore, 206 Hunter St., York.

The body may be viewed from 5 to 8 p.m. Friday at Wright Funeral Home.

Virginia Bell

STATEN ISLAND, N.Y. - Mrs. Virginia Bell, 76, of 250 Park Ave., formerly of York County, died Tuesday, March 31, 1998, at St. Vincent's Hospital.

Burial was at Silver Mount Cemetery.

Survivors include her daughter, Sammie Mae Moore Cedeno of York.

Wright Funeral Home was in charge of local arrangements.

Myrtle Giles

FORT MILL - Mrs. Myrtle Silvers Giles, 65, of 1455 Gold Hill Road died Wednesday, April 8, 1998, at Hospice of Union County in Monroe, N.C.

The funeral will be 11 a.m. Friday at Greene Funeral Home, with the Rev. Joseph Lightsey officiating. Burial will be at Grandview Memorial Park.

A native of York County, Mrs. Giles was a member of Fort Mill Church of the Nazarene. She was a homemaker and worked at Lance Foods in Charlotte.

Surviving are two sons, Ronald C. Giles and F. Ray Giles, both of Fort Mill; her father, Fred E. Silvers of Walhalla; five brothers, Bill Silvers of Laurens, David Silvers of Fort Mill, Harry Silvers of Olympia, Wash., Larry Silvers of Walhalla, and Tommy Silvers of Statesville, N.C.; two sisters, Margaret Wingate of Charlotte and Frances Cotton of Gastonia, N.C.; and five grandchildren.

The family will receive friends from 7 to 8:30 tonight at Greene Funeral Home, and at other times at the home.

Memorials may be made to Hospice of Union County, 700 W. Roosevelt Blvd., Monroe, NC 28110.
