Coleman Catoe Jr.

FORT MILL - Mr. Coleman Livingston Catoe Jr., 58, of 9728 Blackwelder Road died Saturday, April 11, 1998, at his home.

The funeral will be 2 p.m. Monday at New Vision Free Will Baptist Church, with the the Revs. Daggett Duncan, Dennis Kiser and Darrel Morgan officiating. Burial will be at Unity Cemetery.

A native of York County, Mr. Catoe was a loom fixer for Springs Industries and was an honorary deacon at New Vision Free Will Baptist Church, where he was also a member. He was a dedicated horseman and a deer and raccoon hunter.

Surviving are his wife, Betty Jo Howard Catoe; two sons, Billy C. Catoe of Taxahaw and Steven R. Catoe of Mount Crogan; four daughters, Lisa C. Harvell, Ellen Denise Harkey and Cynthia Renee Catoe, all of Fort Mill, and Patricia Lynn Deese of Pageland; two brothers, Jackie Catoe of Lancaster and Robert Catoe of Pageland; two sisters, Sallie Poston and Bobbie Deese, both of Lancaster; and 13 grandchildren.

The family will receive friends from 7 to 9 tonight at Whitesell-Wolfe Funeral Home and at other times at the home.

Josie Chalk

ROCK HILL - Mrs. Josie Bell Parks Chalk of 218 Poag St. died Saturday, April 11, 1998, at Meadow Haven Rehabilitation and Specialty Care Center.

The funeral will be 1 p.m. Thursday at Boyd Hill Baptist Church, with the Rev. B.R. Wilson officiating and the Revs. T.R. Jones, McKinley Woods and David L. Hill assisting. The Rev. James W. Hope will give the eulogy. Burial will be at Barber Memorial Cemetery.

Mrs. Chalk was a native of Chester County, where she attended the public schools. A homemaker, she was a former member of Mount Pilgrim Baptist Church. She was a former employee of Rock Hill schools.

Surviving are five sons, William T. Chalk Jr. of Chattanooga, Tenn., Richard Lee Chalk of Columbia, Jessie Chalk, Raymond Chalk and Willie Chalk, all of Rock Hill; her daughter, Sara A. Barber of Rock Hill; a granddaughter whom she reared, Jessie Mae Edwards of Rock Hill; a nephew whom she reared, Lawrence Parks of Rock Hill; three brothers, Paul L. Parks Jr. and Alonzo "Jack" Parks, both of Rock Hill, and Theodore Parks of Chester; three sisters, Ola Mae Chalk and Clorinda Pendergrass, both of Chester, and Alberta Carey of Greenport, N.Y.; 34 grandchildren; 40 great-grandchildren; and three great-great-grandchilden.

The family will receive friends from 6 to 7 p.m. Wednesday at Robinson Funeral Home and at other times at the home, 218 Poag St., and also at 201 Town and Country Lane, Apt. 188 in Chester.

The body will be placed in the church at 11 a.m. Thursday.

Julius Graham

ROCK HILL - Mr. Julius H. Graham of 742 Midvale Ave. died Friday, April 10, 1998, at Dorn V.A. Medical Center in Columbia.

The funeral will be 2 p.m. Wednesday at Boyd Hill Baptist Church, with the Rev. B.R. Wilson officiating, assisted by the Revs. Claire Marsh, James Thompson, C.H. Williams and Wesley Byars. The Rev. Richard A. Graham will give the eulogy. Burial will be at Grandview Memorial Park.

A native of York County, Mr. Graham was retired from The Herald, was a member of Boyd Hill Baptist Church, and a U.S. Army veteran of World War II. He was a former member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars, the American Legion and the Federation of the Blind. He was a member of the Rock Hill Senior Citizens, a graduate of Emmett Scott High School and attended Friendship Junior College.

Surviving are six sons, Robert L. Graham of San Francisco, the Rev. James F. Graham of Chattanooga, Tenn., and Clarence H. Graham, the Rev. Richard A. Graham, Julius O. Graham and Charles R. Graham, all of Rock Hill; four daughters, Lucille Johnson of Far Rockaway, N.Y., Catherine Holley of Charlotte, and Helen Ruth Graham and Doris McCullough, both of Rock Hill; three sisters, Betty Davis of Phoenix, and Margaret Fisher and Helen Franklin, both of Rock Hill; 21 grandchildren; and 18 great-grandchildren.

The family will receive friends from 6 to 7 p.m. Tuesday at Robinson Funeral Home and at other times at the home.

The body will be placed in the church at noon Wednesday.

Robert Hunter

LANCASTER - Mr. Robert Spurgeon Hunter, 75, of 1121 Chesterfield Ave. died Saturday, April 11, 1998, at his home.

The funeral will be 4 p.m. Tuesday at Glenwood Heights Baptist Church, with the Revs. Ron Gregory, Benjamin Newman and Roy Ryan officiating. Burial will be at Lancaster Memorial Park.

A native of Lancaster County, Mr. Hunter was retired from Springs Industries as cotton warehouse manager and was a member of Glenwood Heights Baptist Church.

Surviving are his wife, Lennie Langley Hunter; his son, Anthony L. Hunter of Heath Springs; his daughter, Sue Bailey of Lancaster; his brother, Sonny Hunter of Heath Springs; four sisters, Christine Love of Lancaster, and Jack Hunter, Kit Adams and Mart Hall, all of Heath Springs; four grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.

The family will receive friends from 7 to 8:30 p.m. Monday at Hartley Funeral Home.

Donna Jenkins

GASTONIA, N.C. - Ms. Mary Donna Jenkins Jackson, 42, of 2832 Union Road died Friday, April 10, 1998, at her home.

A graveside service will be 2 p.m. Monday at Lakeview Memory Gardens, with the Rev. Paul Hutchinson officiating.

A native of York County, she was a graduate of Clover High School and the University of South Carolina.

Surviving are her parents, Fred C. and Wilma D. Jenkins of Clover; her brother, Charles Jenkins of Clover; her sister, Charlene Cantrell of Gastonia, N.C.; and her grandmother, Mary Dixon of Clover.

The family will receive friends at the home of Fred and Wilma Jenkins, 508 Flat Rock St., Clover.

Memorials may be made to Clover First United Methodist Church, P.O. Box 225, Clover, SC 29710.

Steve Johnson

ROCK HILL - Mr. Steven Darnell Johnson, 33, of 446 Barnes St. died Wednesday, April 8, 1998, at Piedmont Medical Center.

The funeral will be 3:30 p.m. today at Clemons Funeral Home, with the Rev. Rodney Hamright officiating. Burial will be at Barber Memorial Cemetery.

A native of Harlem, N.Y., Mr. Johnson was a graduate of Northwestern High School, where he was on the track team. He served in the Air Force and attended Trinity Bible Church.

Surviving are his wife, Connie Harrison Johnson; his son, Coslough D. Harrison of the home; two daughters, Tiffani N. Johnson and Stefanie D. Johnson, both of the home; his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Ben Sanders of Rock Hill and Prince Myeres of Bamberg; and his brother, Ben Sanders III of Rock Hill.

The family will receive at the home of Lonzo and Anna Blake, 446 Barnes St.

Virginia Spruill

MATTHEWS, N.C. - Mrs. Virginia Vaughan Spruill, 85, of Plantation Estates died Saturday, April 11, 1998, at Presbyterian Hospital.

The funeral will be 11 a.m. Monday at Harry and Bryant Chapel in the Oaks, with the Rev. Matthew B. Horne officiating. Burial will be at Forest Lawn East Cemetery.

A native of Danville, Va., Mrs. Spruill was a longtime member of First Presbyterian Church, Emporia, Va., an active member of Daughters of the American Revolution and United Daughters of the Confederacy.

Surviving are two daughters, Mantha Spruill Peeler of Rock Hill and Sherrod Spruill Noe of Matthews; and three grandchildren.

The family will receive friends from 7 to 8:30 tonight at Harry and Bryant Co.
