Mary Stephenson

ELGIN - Mrs. Mary Ellen Varnadore Stephenson, 66, of 234 Smithfield Circle died Friday, April 10, 1998, at Kershaw County Medical Center.

The funeral will be 3 p.m. Monday at Barron Funeral Home, with the Rev. Reggie Parker officiating. Burial will be at Evergreen Cemetery.

A native of Chester, Mrs. Stephenson was a homemaker and a member of Forest Drive Baptist Church. She attended Chester County schools.

Surviving are her husband, Larry H. "Steve" Stephenson; two sons, S. Larry Stephenson and Micky R. Stephenson, both of Elgin; three daughters, Teresa A. Lyday of Lugoff; Becky M. Williamson of Columbia and M. Kathy Coleman of Elgin; her brother, Leslie Varnadore of Jacksonville, N.C.; and five grandchildren.

The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 tonight at Barron Funeral Home in Chester.

Memorials may be made to the American Cancer Society, 128 Stonemark Lane, Columbia, SC 29210.

Mary Varnadore

GREAT FALLS - Mrs. Mary Aiken Varnadore, 93, formerly of Bakertown Road, died Friday, April 10, 1998, at Chester County Hospital.

The funeral will be 11 a.m. Monday at Dantzler-Baker Funeral Home, with the Revs. James Howard Baker and Eddie Thompson officiating. Burial will be at Greenlawn Cemetery.

A native of Chester County, Mrs. Varnadore was a homemaker, who attended Faith Baptist Church in Lancaster. She was educated in Chester County schools.

Surviving are her son, Leonard Varnadore of Chapin; two daughters, Frances Baker of Lancaster and Lavinia McWaters of York, Pa.; her brother, Marion Aiken of Lancaster; 16 grandchildren; 31 great-grandchildren; 21 great-great-grandchildren; and her great-great-great-grandchild.

The family will receive friends from 7 to 8:30 tonight at Dantzler-Baker Funeral Home.

Memorials may be made to Greenlawn Cemetery, P.O. Box 462, Great Falls, SC 29055.

Sallie Wade

YORK - Mrs. Sallie Augusta Roseboro Wade, 47, died Thursday, April 9, 1998, at Piedmont Medical Center in Rock Hill.

The funeral will be 2 p.m. today at St. Luke No. 1 Baptist Church, with the Rev. Arthur Bankhead officiating. Burial will be at the church cemetery.

Mrs. Wade was a machine operator at Dixie Manufacturing, a graduate of Jefferson High School and a member of St. Luke No. 1 Baptist Church in Sharon and its musical choir.

Surviving are her mother, Annie Bell Roseboro of Sharon; her son, Mark Elliott Wade of the home; her daughter, Sandra Wade Darby of Rock Hill; six brothers, John Roseboro of York, Richard Roseboro and Charles Roseboro, both of Falls Church, Va., Abe Martin Roseboro and Kevin Eugene Roseboro, both of Sharon, and Tommy Roseboro of Rock Hill ; seven sisters, Minnie Gilmore of York, Frances White of Chester, Mary Kee of Falls Church, Katie Wade of Sharon, Annie Lee Paul of Charlotte, Joanne Gwinn of Sharon and Connie Lawson of Virginia; two grandchildren; and J.C. Brown of Clover, a special friend.

The body will be placed in the church an hour before the service.

Marjorie Allen

SPARTANBURG - Mrs. Marjorie Bristow Allen, 67, of Spartanburg, formerly of Rock Hill, died Wednesday, April 8, 1998, at her home.

A memorial service was Saturday.

Mrs. Allen was a reporter for the Wynnewood Gazette in Wynnewood, Okla. She was employed as a secretary in the early 1970's at the Museum of York County and was a placement officer with Snelling & Snelling in Rock Hill.

Surviving are two sons, Robert Allen and James Allen, both of Spartanburg; her brother, Robert O'Neil Bristow of Rock Hill; and six grandchildren.

Nannie Bailey

ROCK HILL - Mrs. Nannie L. Bailey, 84, of 1108 Edwards St. died Monday, April 13, 1998, at Piedmont Medical Center.

The funeral will be 2 p.m. Wednesday at Calvary Baptist Church, with the Rev. Jerry McNair officiating. Burial will be at Forest Hills Cemetery.

Mrs. Bailey was a member of Emanuel Baptist Church and a retiree of J.P. Stevens Industrial Plant with 25 years service. She was the widow of C.W. Bailey.

Surviving are her son, William M. "Bill" Bailey of Rock Hill; five daughters, Leola Gatlin of Hope Mills, N.C., Betty Crews of Mooresville, N.C., Barbara Price of Myrtle Beach, Fran Sheets of Charlotte, and Martha Hilton of Catawba; her brother, Frank Macomnson of Charlotte; her sister, Mary Brassell of Charlotte; 17 grandchildren; 26 great-grandchildren and two great-great-grandchildren.

The family will receive friends from 7 to 9 tonight at Greene Funeral Home and at other times at the the home of her son, 1303 Deas St. in Rock Hill.

Memorials may be made to the National Kidney Foundation, P.O. Box 1316, Columbia, SC 29202.

Burley Bowman

LANCASTER - Mr. Burley James Bowman died Sunday, April 12, 1998, at Springs Memorial Hospital.

The funeral will be 11 a.m. Wednesday at Sherwood Baptist Church, with the Rev. Gary Rogers officiating. Burial will be at Lancaster Memorial Park.

Mr. Bowman was a member of Sherwood Baptist Church, where he was active in the Men's Brotherhood.

Surviving are three sisters, Betty Sutton of Liberty, Beatrice Sparks of Johnson City, Tenn., and Ruby Brown of Chattanooga, Tenn.; two half-sisters, Cathy Taylor of Anderson and Marcine Gainey of Lancaster; her stepmother, Ida Chattam of Anderson; and her stepbrother, Edward Baggott of Anderson.

The family will receive friends from 7 to 9 tonight at Mahaffey Funeral Home.

Memorials may be made to Sherwood Baptist Church building fund, 1030 Darlene Blvd., Lancaster, SC 29720.

Louise Burgess

LANCASTER - Mrs. Louise Boling Ballard Burgess, 73, of 1153 6th St. died Sunday, April 12, 1998, at Carolinas Medical Center in Charlotte.

The funeral will be 2 p.m. Wednesday at The Temple Baptist Church, with the Revs. Curtis Cameron and W.C. Wallace officiating. Burial will be at Lancaster Memorial Park.

Mrs. Burgess was a member of The Temple Baptist Church and was a former foster parent.

Surviving are her son, James A. Ballard of West Springfield, Mass; two daughters, Janet Blackmon of Kershaw and Gloria Comunale of Bivalve, Md.; 10 grandchildren; and 11 great-grandchildren.

The family will receive friends from 7 to 9 tonight at Cauthen Funeral Home and at other times at the home.
